A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Reina flinched back, away from the rush of violence that swept from the alleyway and into the street.

Her three would-be rescuers were fighting valiantly, and doing well despite the odds. She had hoped to outrun the pack of predators chasing her because she was certain that no one confronted by them would seriously entertain the idea of resisting. Not for her sake. Not for the sake of a total stranger. But these three were proving her wrong. They were fighting.

So the least she could do was fight, too.

A pair of hands gripped her shoulder, yanking her back towards one of the vans. Reina span with the helmet in her hands and the hardened plastic cracked against the skull of her attacker. She was small and exhausted and not particularly strong, so she doubted she could do much to turn the tide of the fight but at least she could make life harder for their enemies.

Tsubasa's opponent fell beneath her hail of blows only for another to take his place with a wild swipe of a metal bat. The leather-clad thug charging Saito let out a growl of pain and tumbled, still swinging with the wicked-looking club in his hand. The pain only seemed to spur him on because he limped forward despite his crippled foot, glaring with a wild-eyed look of utter fury.

They were putting up a strong resistance, but Reina was sure it would only be a matter of time before they were overwhelmed and worn down by the sheer volume of assailants falling upon them. It was only in movies where the plucky underdogs came out on top.

She barely understood Aiko's warning, but out of shock more than anything else she screwed her eyes shut and braced herself. Perhaps this girl possessed some extremely destructive esper power that could save them? She had heard one of the Level 5s could do something with lasers? Maybe this girl was her? Had she been lucky enough to run across the legendary Meltdowner in her time of need?

The flash of blinding light might not have lived up to Reina's desperate hopes, but it served its purpose well enough. The Skill Outs surrounding them were ill prepared for the surprise and the majority of them staggered, dazzled for that brief moment.

A window of opportunity had opened, however slight.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Watabe Tsubasa Wed Dec 25, 2019 6:35 pm

While Tsubasa was fighting, she noticed that the Tokiwadai girl was slowly but steadily approaching them.

"When I say 'Now', close your eyes for 1 second"

‘Huh, does she have some kind of plan?’, she wondered.

When the dancing girl stood up again after her previous acrobatics, a Skill-Out was already swinging his bat at her, but she managed to dodge it on time as she leaned backwards. The bat did scratch her jacket, though.

‘Woops, that was close!!’

Meanwhile, a scream reached her ears from a close distance:

"NOW!"

Tsubasa thankfully registered what that was signaling, and she quickly shut her eyes, praying inside that the girl acted quickly and did whatever trick she had on her sleeves before the guy in front of her smashed her head in pieces while she was not looking.

Just a second later, she could hear the surprised screams. She slowly opened her eyes, and upon seeing the scene in front of her, a bunch of people staggering, she realised that they couldn’t see. She whistled in amazement.

"Heeeh~ Nicely done~"

This was their chance to escape. They had little time to act, so they had to make the most of it if they wanted to leave this place in one piece.

“Quick! We need to get the hell out of here!”, she yelled as she reached out to hold Reina’s hand. She run to the bike while dragging the other girl.

She remembered however that it would be kind of cowardly to leave the other two behind. But unfortunately her bike only had place for two people. It was impossible to carry any more than that…

“Sorry! You two gotta find some other way! Dunno! Steal a van or something!”, she apologized awkwardly.

“And you”, she spoke to Reina,”Put that helmet on your head and hold on tightly. Do not let go. Really, don't. Unless you want to fall down.”

Knowing that their lives depended on it, she accelerated and drove away as fast as she humanly could. The bike was creating its escape path by jumping off the roof of a van to gain some distance and momentum and then swiftly navigating between the tight spaces the last vans had created against each other. Tsubasa kept her manoeuvers at full speed until the previous view was all left behind.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Hujisaka Natsumi Thu Dec 26, 2019 3:48 pm

August 20th, 10:47 A.M, District "??"

Long strands of brown hair fluttered along with the occasional breezes of wind. The fairly petite girl to whom it belonged was quietly strolling in the streets of Academy City, no longer able to distinguish what district she wandered in as she continually lost herself in her thoughts.

Last she had been here, she had been involved in a massive incident and had almost been found out by the person she absolutely did not want to cross for the time being. As such, she had left Academy City for a little over two weeks, while the situation blew over.

The most curious part was the ease with which she had managed to return; after all, the likes of her were scarcely welcomed in Academy City given that she wasn’t a student, much less an Esper. Had there been a use for her planned that justified the tolerance of her presence, or did the higher-ups simply not care?

Yes, as a magician, Hujisaka Natsume was what you would usually consider a persona non grata, rather than the guest she seemed to be. She didn’t want to attract ill will by being overly suspicious, but it was quite odd that there were periods where entry to Academy City seemed to be highly restricted, and others were like open doors.

She sighed, coming at a halt as she finally decided to put the matter aside for now.

There was a much pressing one, anyway, she figured as she confusedly turned her head about.

Where was she, anyway?

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Saito Hirashi Fri Dec 27, 2019 8:39 am

“Now!”

No More Hoodie Girl played her card in the form of a blinding flash, even through closed eyelids, Hirashi’s saw stars after the blast. The thugs, who were caught face-first, were expectedly worse off, they were blinded and disoriented. If they were to make a move, now would be the time.

Sorry! You two gotta find some other way! Dunno! Steal a van or something!”

And the moves were made, the Mad Biker stayed true to their namesake and nabbed Gown Girl whilst performing some truly impressive maneuvers on her motorcycle to make their getaway. Hirashi did not even have the time to be annoyed before their silhouette disappeared in a cloud of dust.

“Well, there they go. I thought Mad Biker was supposed to be the “Justice for All” type…” Hirashi mumbled as he thought of his next step.

With Gown Girl out of the picture, Hirashi had no more reasons to continue making a stand, and neither do the Skill Outs. These thugs must be under the employment of someone, it would be highly improbable for this many thugs to risk death just to capture one girl. This means he might be able to talk his way out of this.

“Hey you.” Hirashi called out to the thug he just injured, who at this point was still blinded. “Surely you heard that motorcycle driving away. You may not be able to see, but that Mad Biker and your mark had just left us in the dust. I do not want to fight you over nothing, and surely your employer would not be happy to hear you lost your mark because you were fighting over nothing. If you agree to this, I’ll even give you the cash I have on me as compensation for your foot, do we have a deal?”

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Aoki Aiko Fri Dec 27, 2019 4:05 pm

It worked. Her flash of light had left the skill outs temporarily blinded and dazed but the effect wouldn't last long.

"Heeeh~ Nicely done~" The biked said seeming somewhat amused. Aiko was relieved that it looked like the small group seemed to all have heard her warning and heeded her signal.

“Sorry! You two gotta find some other way! Dunno! Steal a van or something!”

With that the biker pulled the girl in the hospital gown onto their motorcycle and started to make their escape.

It seemed like the her impound lot buddy was trying to negotiate with the Skill Outs to let them go. Aiko could only imagine that going one way. There were enough of them that they could still go after the girl and fight the two of the them to get rid of witnesses. From their brief scuffle before, Aiko could tell that the only one of them that was probably good in a brawl was the biker who had just escaped. Another strategy would be needed here... maybe just what the biker had suggested.

"I doubt negotiation will work, there's more then enough of them to take us out and follow the girl," Aiko whispered to her ally. "I have an idea, follow me if you can."

Without waiting for a response, Aiko shifted her shell again while shrinking it so just her and the boy fit inside. All light trying to leave would now be blocked from doing so. From the outside, just a dome of darkness. Aiko sprinted forward in the direction the biker had driven off to where the vans were blocking the road. They had to move quick before the skill outs recovered. The dome was just there to add more confusion once the blindness wore off. With some luck, the boy had followed her and the skill out morons had left the vans idling.

Aiko could here the screams of the skill outs as she jumped into the drivers seat and threw the vehicle into drive. Flooring the gas, she took off after the biker.

"Hey you can shoot things right?" Aiko inquired of the boy now in the passenger's seat. "Can you take out the tires of the vans still there. We should be able to stop them from following us."

With that, Aiko was in full concentration mode. She was a middle school student. At Tokiwadai sure, but still a middle school student. She had never driven a car before in her life. Her driving experience could easily be summed up as watching it done in movies and the occasional video game. If they didn't crash by the end of this, she swore her licence would be her next goal. Her heart was beating faster and faster in her chest as she attempted to catch up to the biker. Luckily she could still see them a ways ahead. Aiko managed to keep the vehicle going in a straight line, although not without wiggles and shakes. Hopefully no turns came too quickly in this escape.

"W-wait!" Reina staggered behind Tsubasa before being pulled onto the motorcycle. She could only stare, bewildered and a little concerned at the other two quickly vanishing into the distance behind them. "Aren't we going to save them?" She could barely gasp out against the wind as she clung to the biker's waist with all her strength.

Hirashi's pleas had fallen on deaf ears, however, and the Skill Out blinked against the spots of white filling his sight, rubbing his eyes with one hand while he brandished his weapon in wild, feral swings in the direction of the voice that grated in his ears. He clearly was not in the mood for negotiations.

The gathered thugs were on the edge of regaining their vision when Aiko sent the van squealing off in a wheelspin. Against common sense and self-preservation, the half-blind delinquents tumbled into the remaining vehicles which sped off after Aiko and Hirashi. Several didn't make it in time, stumbling and cursing as they ran after the vehicles.

"Fuck. If we don't get her back Kurama's gonna have our heads." The driver of the first van clutched the wheel with a white-knuckled grip. He heard something approaching like the distant roar of a jet engine.

The blur shook the van as it ripped past. Like a streak of lightning, it tore past Aiko and Hirashi, speeding towards the motorcycle and the two girls riding it. It was difficult to see at that speed, but it appeared to be shaped like a person...

***

Though she had no way of knowing it, Natsume's legendary sense of direction had led her to District 19, a virtual ghost town within the otherwise bustling metropolis.

"E-excuse me, miss?" A small, timid voice called out to Natsume. With the streets being so empty, it could only have been directed at her. After a little searching, she would have been able to pinpoint the owner of that voice as a small boy who looked no more than 9. The boy was wearing what appeared to be a private school's uniform, with neatly pressed shorts and blazer that looked out of place amongst his run down surroundings. "I'm lost." He was very obviously trying to suppress his sniffling sobs. "Can you..." His voice became quieter, as though he was struggling to find the courage to speak.

"Aren't we going to save them?", the girl clinging to her questioned her decision.

Tsubasa was in no place to argue, for she knew that what she did was cowardly. The other two have also risked their lives to help. Yet here she was, leaving them to their own destiny.

However...

"Don't worry. They're smart. They'll find a way out safely."

That's right. Even though she has just met them, she could feel that they had experience with this kind of situation before. Especially that Tokiwadai girl. She had the eyes of someone whose life is danger itself.

'They can make it out alive. Definitely.', she tried reassuring herself.

Barely a few seconds later, she noticed that they're being followed by a van, and a certain girl was sitting in the driver seat, while a certain boy was next to her. Watabe could only burst in laughter, expressing her relief.

"Hahaha! Look who's behind us! See?! I told ya!", she told Reina. But in reality, those words were also meant for herself.

Although there were a couple of other Skill-Out vans following them, she had confidence that they could lose those quite easily.

But then, suddenly, she heard something approaching from behind with a strong roar. At first she dismissed it as another vehicule, but when she turned around, she was shocked to see a human silhouette approaching them with superhuman speed.

'W-what the fuck is that?!'

It was all a blur at this speed so she couldn't tell if it was a humanoid machine or an esper. But she knew one thing:

This was bad news for everyone involved.

Ba-dump ba-dump ba-dump...

Her heart started beating furiously, her face paled, her forehead became sweaty and her hands shaky. She was terrified. Her instincts screamed for her to run away.

'Faster! Faster!!', she tried accelerating even more...

But it was all in vain, her bike's maximum speed seemed to be a joke compared to the one approaching...

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Saito Hirashi Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:21 pm

Hirashi narrowly avoided the weapon and took a step back, it looked like No More Hoodie Girl was correct in assuming the thugs would not be interested in settling their differences over tea.

With no better plan of his own, Hirashi winded up taking the girl’s lead and soon found himself beside her in one of the thugs’ vans.

"Hey you can shoot things right? Can you take out the tires of the vans still there. We should be able to stop them from following us."

After issuing his task, No More Hoodie Girl proceeded to launch the vehicle violently towards the rapidly disappearing Mad Biker and Gown Girl.

Hirashi took a quick inventory, he had five nails initially, but fired one as a warning and one more to avoid the thug’s attack. This means he had more targets then he had ammunition.

“I can only hit three of them,” Hirashi responded over the tortured roaring of the van’s engine, “I can make do with these coins but there will be no guarantee these will pierce the tires. I believe I should hold on to these until we are certain we will need to use them.”

Hirashi was barely able to finish his sentence before something blitzed past the van, shaking it. Hirashi tried to make sense of what just happened, it appeared to be a  humanoid silhouette, very fast, and headed towards the motorbike in front of them.

Hirashi groaned inwardly, he has had just about enough with all these anomalies appearing all around him lately. For a moment he wished everything would just go to plan for once.

After mentally yelling and rolling around his seat, Hirashi decided not to engage the newcomer. Its allegiances was still unknown and he doubted he’s be able to damage it anyway, but he readied a nail just in case.

The human-shaped blur easily reached the motorcycle, pulling ahead for a second before drifting back to match its pace with the vehicle. The long streak of golden light that followed it shortened as if finally catching up to itself, revealing the youthful, handsome face of a boy with honey-colored hair and brightly glowing red eyes.

The one racing alongside Tsubasa and Reina turned to look at the two girls with an easy smile. The affectionless smile was less disconcerting than the fact that he did not even appear to be exerting any effort to keep pace with them. In fact his long, charging steps resembled the smooth glide of an ice skater.

Though they likely couldn't hear him over the roar of the wind whipping past their heads, he opened his mouth to speak.

"I'll be taking that back." He reached for Reina's arm with an open hand.

“I can only hit three of them. I can make do with these coins but there will be no guarantee these will pierce the tires. I believe I should hold on to these until we are certain we will need to use them.”

Just as the boy had finished that sentence the van shock as something sped past them, easily catching up to the motorcycle in front of them. It was moving so fast that it was hard to make out. Once it was parallel with the motorcycle it slowed down and became easier to see. It looked like a person, a boy. However, a person that was keeping pace with a motorcycle like it was nothing. Aiko's mind was racing. Who was this? Who's side are they on? What should she do?

It looked like the running boy was trying to say something to the biker, but from where she was, Aiko couldn't make any of it out. The speedster then reached out his hand as if they were trying to grab the girl they had just rescued. Aiko took that to mean that the person was not in fact on their side. As to what she could do to stop them... her hands were kind of tied. Keeping this van stable and moving forward was using both of her arms, otherwise she would have tried to fire a laser as the speedster. But wait... she did have a free arm, just not her's.

"You, Uh... I don't know your name. Quick, I have a laser pointer in my skirt pocket, shoot it at that fast guy!!"

There was desperation is Aiko's voice. If she could get the boy next to her to use the laser, it should work out. It doesn't need to be her shooting after all. Aiko then immediately shifted her electron shell to boost the laser's output and made it big enough to encircle the van. Now if the boy reached out the window and fired, it would still be inside the shell and get amplified before hitting the speedster. Aiko floored the gas, trying to get as close to the biker and speedster as possible. This would make shooting easier and hopefully they'd be able to escape if it hit.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Kisaragi Anko Thu Jan 23, 2020 7:46 pm

Resistance.

That was the answer they both received from their opponent. That fake nurse named Bradley would encounter it upon attempting to inject the tip of the syringe, as the dramatically naive girl would suddenly grab and twist his wrist. And damsel in distress pretending to go by the name Hasagawa Yumemi would face it as she attempted to twist her attacker’s arm in a way that would make him the ultimate target of whatever malevolent intention he had, only to be opposed by someone all too familiar with these kinds of techniques.

So what happened was both of their counter attacks transforming into a short lives wrestling match between a physical stronger and a more skilful party. A check mate or a clear loss?

«You little bitch!»

Her moment of surprise had been wasted and as a result, instead of being easily triumphant, she would be thrown backwards into the bed, revealing her panties due to a fluttery hospital gown. However, instead of retaliating right away, she would use the momentum of her fall to bounce across the bed, making it a physical wall between her and him.

One of little purpose, given that the fake nurse would immediately come chasing her by charging straight forward in an attempt to simply jump across the minor obstacle. And as he did he would use the sole of his boot as the vanguard of his attack.

Fast, merciless, strong and skilled. Whoever he was, he was no amateur and hardly anything like she had encountered in this city before.

This man was by far no average grunt.

Luckily, she was no average girl, either.

Thus, she was able to anticipate her opponents intention. Just as he was about to complete his charge she had undone her hospital gown, tossing it straight at his face all the while sidestepping the vicious jump attack. Taken entirely by surprise and robbed of his sight, the man would land pretty roughly in what was a loud crash into the side board. Certainly loud enough to attract the attention of the immediate surroundings. Both kinds of it: good and bad.

Now, robbed of everything – including the low profile she had intended to prevail – except her panties the girl was perfectly cornered. It would only take moments for that professional fake nurse to make his comeback and on top of that the loud noises should have attracted the attention of whatever accomplices he should have. One of them had given her a hard time already but, but the door bursting open gave way for more of this to come.

So what would Hasagawa Yumemi, no, Kisaragi Anko's endgame be? It was time for a true classic.

«What the hell is going o–––»

«Kyaaaaaaaaaa!!! PERVERT!!!»

You see, she was effectively naked and he was a prime example of sketchy. What else did one need to see before jumping to hasty interpretation?

Still, no matter how well she had played it, this was hardly a full reversal of the odds, but rather an attempt at creating a new starting point. The final question was: Would it work?

Post  Watabe Tsubasa Sun Jan 26, 2020 5:00 pm

The human-shaped silouhette drifted back and was now right next to them. this allowed Tsubasa to have a closer look. It was a human being after all. A young man with honey-colored hair and red eyes, to be exact.

He smiled at them. But it was an affectionless smile. This rang all of the alarming bells in her mind. He was an enemy. And he was to be avoided at all costs. This wasn't an individual whom she was strong enough to deal with.

'Damn it!'

Panic was starting to show in her eyes. Nonetheless, she tried her best to maintain a brave facade for the sake of the girl behind her. She didn't want to scare her more than she was already.

But to be honest, the biker was totally at a loss. She had no way out of this situation unless some miracle happened.

Meanwhile, the boy was already reaching out for the goan girl, mumbling something that was lost in the wind.

At the same time, she noticed some spot on his clothes. She quickly realised it was the laser pointer that belonged to the middle school girl. She understood then that the duo behind them probably had a plan. Tsubasa decided to do her best to ensure that it went smoothly. Firstly, she made sure to not show her relief on her face, so that the red-eyed boy doesn't suspect anything. She also made sure to distract his attention from the laser spot. She didn't try talking to him or anything, as that would be suspicious, and her voice tone might give her away. She simply glared into the boy's eyes, as if she was challenging him. And finally, she made sure to maintain a steady pace, neither accelerating nor decelerating, in order to facilitate the aim of the laser and increase their chance of hitting their target. After all, it would really suck if they missed it...

She hoped that this plan was going to work.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Kira Kohaku Mon Jan 27, 2020 4:00 am

The sound of metal objects being knocked over. The sound of things crashing. The whirling cacophany from her side was enough to make her turn her head. Her eyes widened almost instinctively, not at the sight but the sound.

First of all, there was what she could have sworn to have heard, a low-pitched grunting of the word ‘bitch’. Second, there was the commotion that had compelled one of the nurses to jump into the room. Moreover, the cry of pervert had been let out.

Normally, that would not have been enough to cause Kohaku to jump in…

No, that was a lie. Hospital staff who was clearly aggravated had called a patient a bitch. It was hardly professional. That would have been enough for the great nagger Kohaku to have jumped in easily (even if it led to her getting kicked out of the hospital).

But, those guys were clearly beyond what her skinny stick figure arms and legs could deal with. They looked like the big, burly type and she was frankly unsure if she could really do anything. The fact that her mind had went to that direction meant that danger signals were clearly flashing in her head.

So, she walked on. Taking a quick glace at that room number, she moved to the nearest intersection in the corridors and moved out of view before she grabbed one of the phones sitting on the wall.

“Let’s see, the announcement number was...”

After dialing a four digit number, she spoke onto the phone.

“Code Grey in...”

Emergency codes still required a certain level of privacy to be maintained, so she could not state the room number over the announcement outright, but she still had to name a section of the hospital for the appropriate response to occur. The Code Grey was the code for a belligerent person in the hospital, as anyone who worked in a hospital would know. Whether it was the patient, the relative, or a member of the staff, that code was a catch-all.

She had no idea whether the belligerent was just the nurse or the patient was belligerent as well, but she felt that was appropriate enough as she peeked around the corner to see what was going on before repeating the announcement once more and placing the phone back on the receiver.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Hujisaka Natsumi Wed Jan 29, 2020 2:11 pm

Lost in her thoughts, Natsume had almost missed the small voice that desperately called out to her. She suddenly turned, at first fairly concerned but then mustering as much enthusiasm as she could in order to not worry the child further.

“Hello there! Did you get lost on your way to classes? What's your name?” She bent down to the child’s level and spoke as gently as possible, with a warm and bright smile. Though she could tell that he was a private school student, she didn’t have enough knowledge to know which school he was from. Hopefully the boy wouldn't struggle to open up.

"You, Uh... I don't know your name. Quick, I have a laser pointer in my skirt pocket, shoot it at that fast guy!!"

No More Hoodie Girl gave her command without taking her hands off the wheel or her eyes off the road. Audible tension was in her voice, and Hirashi deemed it was only natural considering their circumstances.

Given her display of power earlier, it would be fair to assume Hirashi’s companion had some kind of light related power.

Normally he would be hesitant introducing himself to a totally unknown and possibly superior force by attacking them, but the newcomer reaching for Reina forced his hand. Tracking and duping a group of dense thugs is one thing, getting Reina back from this wildcard is another thing altogether.

“Energy and matter, totally incompatible.” Thought Hirashi as he obeyed the command and reached into No More Hoodie Girl’s pocket before taking aim at the glowing figure.

“Hello there! Did you get lost on your way to classes? What's your name?”

The boy continued to avert his eyes as Natsume approached, his softly spoken reply nearly inaudible despite the short space between them.

"I'm..." He whispered, forcing her to move closer to hear him. "I'm..." Closer still. "I'm sorry." The boy glanced upwards, their eyes meeting at the same moment he reached up to touch her shoulder with his small hand. A spark of bluish electricity snapped from his fingertips, jolting through Natsume's body with the force of a stungun.

"Oi! Nice job, Kouta!" A gravelly sounding voice praised the boy. It belonged to one of three rough-looking delinquents who emerged from around the corner behind the boy. He patted the small child on the shoulder as the three of them approached Natsume.

"That was easier than expected. I figured a level 3 would put up more of a fight." One of the boys, a wiry looking boy with cropped hair dyed a leaf green and his left arm in a sling peered down at the girl.

"Ha. That's why I figured we'd use lil' Ko-kun here. Use an Esper to catch an Esper." The first boy prodded Natsume with his toe and removed the zipcuffs from his back pocket.

"Man, we're gonna get a real payday out of this. A level 3's gonna fetch a high price." The third could barely contain his glee.

***

Reina tried to shrink away from the boy's hand but the motorcycle didn't give her much room to maneuver, not without upsetting the balance.

The boy's red eyes darted behind him at the smoking trail of a laser gouging a path along the asphalt. He pulled back his hand before it was caught by the beam and took an evasive step away from the motorcycle. He clicked his tongue against his teeth in irritation and turned his attention back towards the road ahead.

The road terminated abruptly, leaving only a narrow alleyway barely wide enough to fit one of the vans through. Tsubasa and Reina's motorcycle would have no trouble passing through, and if Aiko didn't lose her nerve she would have a straight shot through to the other side, albeit a risky one. But if he misjudged his timing he would be caught between them with no way of avoiding their next attack. Or worse, he would end up a smear on the wall.

His humourless smile vanished in an instant and he turned, sliding sideways across the road's surface with the edge of his shoes and the stench of burning rubber rose from the smoking streak left in his wake. He came to a halt just in front of the wall and brushed the cold sweat from his brow.

Post  Aoki Aiko Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:09 am

The boy next to her had done as she asked. The laser he fired, while it didn't hit it's target, still served its purpose. The speedster was forced to withdraw slightly, unable to steal the girl from the motor cycle. Aiko let out a small sigh of relief.

"Nice, now he won't be able to take her."

Looking ahead, the speedster broke off his chance abruptly. Aiko had been so focused on the speedster she didn't even notice that the road was about to end. Not only that, but there definitely wasn't enough time to stop. Aiko was flooring the van to try and catch up, it hadn't occurred to her what she would do if they needed to stop. A reasonable person would probably try and turn to avoid the alley, or maybe attempt to stop anyway to avoid a more serious crash. Aiko however was a terrified and inexperienced driver. When faced with the narrow alley approaching at high speeds, Aiko panicked, tensing all of her muscles and anchoring her foot on the gas.

The van careened down the road, eating up what little of the road was left. At this point there was only one thing she could try.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

Aiko's mental state was clear as she sent the van hurdling into the narrow opening. Somehow, be it dumb luck or maybe natural talent, Aiko managed to fit the van into the alleyway, though not quite in one piece. Entering the alley, she clipped the side of the van, knocking the mirror clean off. The shock from this caused Aiko to jolt the wheel a bit, bouncing the van slightly between the walls, scratching off all the paint in a shower of sparks, before getting the van back under control.

"AHAHAHAHA! IF WE MAKE IT OUT OF THIS I AM NEVER DRIVING AGAIN!!!"

The peaceful city life was at risk. However, from the looks of it the incident was once more of the kind that could not be resolved by the people with the usual responsibilities. Instead, that task would fall into her right hand once more. A bitter pill to swallow, but nothing she wasn’t used to already.

«Fine. I will help you.»

Still, this time the picture was far bigger than any of those instances before. Therefore, non mastermind high school student Kamijou Touko had to leave the complicated thinking to the actually capable people. Or at least the people she believed were capable.

«So, what’s next?»

The effect of her cry was one that could be easily measured and thus contained. However, just momentarily a barely clothed young girl expressing her fear of a tall shady man would attract the attention of the imminent surroundings. This would include both the other male nurse that had just opened the door to enter and the female one sitting somewhere in that lobby but also the other three nurses or patients currently loitering around in the hallway.

Coming up with a recovery strategy to shove away the sudden attention would take moments, even ignoring the silent storm that had been invoked by an entirely uninvolved girl.

But – again – that sufficed.

Covering her chest and forcing her eyes to ear up, the girl would charge straight through the door, quickly rushing past the confused looking muscle packed fake nurse and out into the corridor. Startled by the unforeseen change of events, everyone would remain still, while the frail girl would make her way down the corridor.

That was all she could do, because after just a few seconds the fake nurses would have caught up and chase after her.

But – once more – that sufficed.

«Idiots. We need to get that little bitch!»

The three had allowed for their ‹perfect› disguises to crack, revealing their true intentions with they fierceness of the blood hounds they actually were.

And yet, their failure was impossible to avoid. After all, their prey had already slipped away.

Instead of simply running down the corridor like the dumb schoolgirl she was supposed to be, Kisaragi Anko had taken a turn around a corner at the next best opportunity, grabbed the first bystander she found and pushed them into an unlocked hospital door’s room, applying enough force to knock the other party over, land atop them and pin them to the ground.

«Shhhh!»

Nothing about this was in any way comfortable. But right now nothing was more important than accomplishing a tactical retreat.

«Tell me anything you know about this place. The exits. This floor. The others. Anything.»

There were numerous hasty footsteps echoing in through the open door. The enemy was likely spreading. They likely had a plan. They likely knew the area. And she had nothing. Having been hospitalised during a state of unconsciousness and never actually left the room afterwards, all the panties only girl knew was a whole lot of nothing paired with wild guesses like the one that had helped them to find this short term hiding place.

«Also…maybe…a dressing room?»

So, yes. Time for on the fly reconnaissance and a cherry pink blush.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Watabe Tsubasa Thu Feb 13, 2020 3:35 pm

Tsubasa saw that the road ahead narrowed to only a small alleyway. It was wide enough to fit the bike, but she knew that the boy had no way of venturing in there, unless he wanted to risk being trapped between the two vehicles.

The honey-colored haired boy pulled his hand and descelerated, leaving a strong stench of burning rubber behind.

The girl smiled triumphly, and shouted at full stength:

"Woohoo! Amazing coordination you two! Thanks a bunch! You saved our lives!"

She continued driving through the allyway as far as she could. It was a dark one, where vision was hard, so she had to turn on the lights. She could hear the van behind them was bumping left and right into the walls, and Watabe couldn't help but chuckle a bit while also pitying the middle schooler who was doing her best to drive efficiently. To be honest she was doing an extraordinary job at that, considering her age. When Watabe judged that they are far enough and that their persuer probably won't be able to catch up to them anymore, she came to a halt. She wiped the sweat on her forehead and then parker her motorbike at the side of the road, waiting for the other van to do the same so that their team could reunite.

While waiting, she asked the shorter girl next to her: "Hey, are you okay? I hope this little adventure didn't shake you up too much."

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Kira Kohaku Mon Feb 17, 2020 7:22 am

Things only seemed to be getting louder and louder. Clearly, what she had witnessed and overheard was worthy of a Code Grey, so it was a good thing she had called it and disclosed the location. After all, she had no capability to anything in that kind of situation. She was hardly physically unfit, but she was also not someone with the physical capability to deal with an altercation.

Sometimes, the best option truly was to stand back on the sidelines and act in support. As her final repeat of the announcement over the hospital’s intercom system finished, she hung up the phone and peeked around the corner. Aside from the two other ‘nurses’ in the area having entered the room, not much had changed since she had first taken her eyes off it all.

All that was left was to wait for security, so Kohaku took turned back away from the site of the incident, leaned against the wall, and took a deep breath. As much as it pained her, she could not do a damn thing here.

Perhaps it was her laser focus on that reality that zoned out the pitter-patter of quickly approaching footsteps. It was really only when she felt herself being pushed back into a nearby room and being mounted as her back hit the floor that her tunnel vision had been brought to a grinding halt.

She gasped out as the sudden collision forced her breath out of her. It was only after she had regained her breath and after the girl who had mounted that she had come to understand what was going on.

The Code Grey was something that worked regardless of who the aggressor was. But, given the situation and the girl who was sitting on top of her, it was highly likely that the hospital “staff” who was with her and their colleagues were likely the aggressor.

Moreover, the sound of footsteps spreading out meant the aggressor was searching.

Security would not arrive in time to deal with this. In other words, that girl had to get to some form of safety as soon as possible. Unfortunately, there was no time for any decent explanations. Even something like pulling up a map on her phone and pointing out exits wouldn’t be good enough in this situation.

They needed to buy time, and that wasn’t going to be easy while this mostly naked person was on top of her.

So, silently (as requested), she pointed behind them to the window.

She mouthed out a few words that she hoped that her new embarrassed partner could read.

We’re right next to the roof. We can hide between windows and I can answer anything there.

With a nod Kisaragi would signal her agreement to other girl’s suggestion, leading them to climb out of the window. The other girl first, then Kisaragi following suit and closing the window behind them silently.

Out in the fresh air the kunoichi would ensure that they would be leaned against the wall between the windows at the most perfect blind spot she could find in the haste. After all, the loud sound of footsteps was chasing across that hospital floor. Surprisingly, there had been more steps than she had anticipated. Was it really just that unknown enemy? There was a sense of larger scale hectic mixed into it.

«There are people after me. From the looks of it they are well trained professionals, although not entirely cut out for this kind of job. At least they were quite clumsy in their attempt at capturing me. So it’s either that they underestimated me or that they’re not used to this kind of job. Both could be true. But if it’s the latter then they are quite dangerous.»

Minding neither her ongoing state of nakedness or the fact that she was talking to a random stranger she had picked up on the hallway, the girl with her stern scary eyes would summarise the entire situation.

«It’s my first time visiting this hospital and I haven’t had the time to scout the area yet. I know nothing except the hallway I just crossed. Further, I don’t know anything about these people. I counted three of them when I made my escape. The one that came for me, the guard outside the door and another woman trying to blend in. They all stuck out like sore thumbs to say the least. So infiltration really isn’t their specialty. So they’re not that type of assassins. Right now it’s best to assume they have a military background. Probably mercenaries. Not involved with Anti-Skill in the slightest. However, their actual numbers remain unknown.»

Continuing her summary of the situation, the panties only girl was turning her head left and right in attempt to reach a bigger picture of their own visibility on this outside roof as well as the blind spots offered by the surroundings. Being out in the open didn’t mean there were no hiding places.

«They’re after me. That makes it harder to move around. Not to forget that I stick out like a sore thumb in this shameful state…»

Right now she was effectively naked and a naked girl would always attract eyes one way or another. A societal taboo did stir up a lot of ruckus, not to forget that it would play perfectly well into teenage boys’ (who were a major part of the population) fantasies. Besides…being this exposed was still somewhat uncomfortable, even to a professional of her degree.

«So, with all these conditions on the board, what knowledge can you impart on me? And don’t dare to fool me. You are at my mercy right now.»

Even at her most vulnerable, Kisaragi Anko’s scary eyes hadn’t lost their ability to pierce one’s spirit.

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Saito Hirashi Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:53 pm

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

The van headed down the alleyway at a speed that was much too high for comfort, sparks flew as the wall grinded down one of the sides of the vehicle. One of the rear-view mirrors clipped off, and Hirashi covered his face, fearing a shower of glass from the windows.

Thankfully, No More Hoodie Girl managed to get the van back under control rather sharpish. Up ahead, Hirashi saw the motorbike gradually slow down to a halt and No More Hoodie Girl beside him did likewise, bringing the nerve wracking chase to an end.

Hirashi saw the Mad Biker speaking the Gown Girl as he pried open the bent doors of the battered van and stepped out into the alleyway. After taking a look at No More Hoodie Girl to check that she will not pass into the afterlife from the stress, Hirashi turned to the main subject of this adventure. Unsure of what they are talking about but also in need of information on the latest unexpected development, Hirashi decided to join the conversation.

“Hey, it seems like the two of you made it! So… uhh, did you know that guy?”

A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story) - Page 2 Empty Re: A Certain Missing Esper (Arc 4 Main Story)

Post  Kira Kohaku Thu Feb 20, 2020 10:04 pm

Thankfully, Kohaku was legible to the young lady who had mounted her as she had gotten off and walked to the window (albeit, following Kohaku rather than going first) and leaned against the wall on the other side of the hospital room.

It was hardly optimal, but she was able to explain what was going on, or at least what she had thought was going on. But, as she listened further on, she could say that while it all sounded ridiculous, she had mentioned the two off-atmosphere nurses she had passed by in the hall. So, it was likely that young woman’s account wasn’t entirely hogwash (as much as she may have wanted to call it the ramblings of a paranoid patient).

But, she had been attacked. She was panicked, naked, and helpless in this situation. Trying to find counterarguments to her account was not going to help anyone and it surely would not help the young lady who was likely at least somewhat shaken by what had just happened.

«So, with all these conditions on the board, what knowledge can you impart on me? And don’t dare to fool me. You are at my mercy right now.»

Not to mention, she was being a bit pushy (understatement, yes). Kohaku doubted the girl really had much to put her at her mercy as she said, but she really didn’t want to push the envelope on that further any further than it already had been. She already seemed to be at some sort of breaking point from only having one piece of clothing on.

“Well, considering we’re already on one of the roofs, there’s a nearby emergency ladder that you can drop off from here and climb down into. We’re near an alley so you can get…” Kohaku frowned as the words came out of her mouth. Her face began to scrunch up as she let her mind dwell on it before shaking her head, pulling out her phone and continuing on. “We can get down there from that ladder. Otherwise, there are numerous different emergency exits, paths, and if you add in some of the chutes for laundry and the like, there are those you can use to get to different floors. We just have the ladder right there.”

It was the quickest option and the fastest way to get her out of any claims of public indecency from anyone on the street.

Moreover, she likely had zero idea why she was being chased after to begin with given her words. Questioning that would have been utterly fruitless.

“As far as your state of dress.” There was really no good option with that. Even if they wandered back inside to find where her (or any) clothes were stored, they would inevitably run into her pursuers. After all, even in a hospital, a person walking around like her would stick out like a sore thumb. “The hospital tends to store fresh gowns on racks that can be found all over the floors. But, I can’t say I remember the layout well enough to run out and get one for you.”

Granted, she did have something she could do for the time being. She took off the shirt she was wearing—a black, long-sleeved shirt with a pale-blue, upside-down cross on it—and held it out to the mostly-naked girl. Despite the fact that she was helping another evade a future of public indecency charges, Kohaku herself seemed to be avoiding that as the white tank top she had obscured most of her body (though one could question how the hell she stood the summer weather with her choice of outfit).

“Use this for now. I think there are a couple of clothing stores nearby where you can get something sufficient.” At the very least, with a shirt and a pair panties, she could probably fool people enough to think she was heading to the pool. After all, there only real difference between lingerie and a bikini was context.

They entered the alley and Reina's grip around Tsubasa's waist tightened with all the strength her small, exhausted body could muster. She screwed her eyes tight and pressed her face into the older girl's back. At least their pursuer had fallen behind now, but she couldn't bring herself to relax just yet. The sounds of grinding and scraping metal behind her told Reina that the danger had not passed just yet.

"Woohoo! Amazing coordination you two! Thanks a bunch! You saved our lives!"

Even when the motorcycle pulled to a stop she hesitated to unwrap her shivering arms from around Tsubasa's leather-clad back. It would take the older girl physically prising her white-knuckle grip apart to get Reina to let go completely.

"Hey, are you okay? I hope this little adventure didn't shake you up too much."

Truth be told she was far from okay. The ordeal had shaken her and even disregarding the tense chase she had very clearly been on the brink of collapse when they found her. Reina tried to nod but her head felt light and the rest of her body felt so far away. She raised a hand to wipe away the tears that gathered in the corner of her eyes. The movement caused her to sway on her feet a little.

“Hey, it seems like the two of you made it! So… uhh, did you know that guy?”

Her eyes flickered over towards Hirashi, wavering as she tried to focus on his face. Did she know him?

She didn't think so...

"No. I-" She staggered, her knees giving way beneath her. Reina's small, fragile form slumped forward against the nearest body as consciousness left her.
