The bottom floor of the building had been gutted by whatever explosive force had torn through the wall. Rubble littered the floor and pockmarked the walls. Computers and equipment scattered in pieces far enough from the wall that they couldn't have been caused by the explosion. Whoever had been in here had ransacked the place as well, likely to cover up their real crime.

***

The top floor.

The boy sat in front of the wall of glowing monitors, his fingers rapping against the desk with a nervous energy. His icy blue eyes flickered between the various displays that illuminated the dim laboratory, never resting on one for more than a split second.

Yosuke crossed and uncrossed his legs, leaning back in the chair as he fidgeted with boredom.

"Hurry up!" He leapt to his feet, kicking the chair back where it slammed against a wall.

The progress bar across the central monitor refused to move any faster despite his outburst, still crawling slowly towards the edge of the screen.

Only a few quick moments had passed really, but Silver was beginning to feel anxiety quickly build up inside him.

Sewers. That's how he'd escape if he were trapped in a building and the front, back, sides, and roof weren't an option. Out the bottom was the last option. Not all buildings had access to a sewer, even if you could move metal or had explosives, but what if this building did have sewer access? What if that Yosuke character was already gone?

No, he wouldn't have known that the roof wasn't an option. Unless he did. Where there cameras on the roof? Did he have access to the building's cameras?

There were too many maybes. Lining couldn't sit tight anymore. He went to the roof access door and used it to access the building from the roof. On the top floor, he began moving to try and find the staircase, but before he did he noticed light. He would have thought that the explosion would have knocked out the electricity. His paranoid mind began wondering how and why and what. The most logical and plausible conclusion was that they set off those explosives in a way that wouldn't disrupt the electrical systems of the building. Maybe. Why? Because they needed it. Maybe.

As he approached the room, he began to search for nearby metals with his ability. He wouldn't be able to control it unless he touched it, but he'd be aware of any metal nearby. Chains, a bat, a knife, a gun. Those kinds of things were what he was searching for.

"Yosuke? Are you in here~?" he asked in an almost playful tone as he approached. Despite that, his expression remained mainly dead pan and weary, with most of it still hidden behind his mask.

Kyou moved swiftly through the building, looking for anything that might have been left behind. She searched relatively swiftly as well, and that let her progress quickly. She planned on starting from the area furthest from her entry point and searching more thoroughly on her way back through, so she really only gave anything she passed a cursory glance, taking the location of anything loose she saw to memory.

Eventually, after climbing up to the top floor, Kyou saw light and heard a voice. Kyou hurried towards it. She was currently too far away to hear what the voice had said, so she hurried closer. She made sure to do it stealthily, to avoid being heard.

Re: [SS] Intensify- Episode 2

Post  Yamato Trystan on Fri Nov 29, 2013 5:47 pm

The male didn't look like he was in any particular state where he would be able to give any coherent responses, so Trystan didn't bother doing the same to him. Instead, he focused on applying the recommended treatments while listening in as Kyou began questioning the girl. As she continued, it struck him that while they did say that she was from another branch, it looked like his status as a sempai at this branch really only extended to the fact that he was here before she was. In terms of what they actually had to do in regards to taking care of a scene, it looked like her capabilities were above that of his own. It wasn't as if he didn't know what to do per-se; it often felt like people became instantly wierded out as soon as they heard him speak. He himself didn't understand how or why that would be the case, however, and so never really gave it much though. He had asked Mii once before, but the only response that solicited was a tired, and almost pitying look from her, which was followed by a casual response telling him to not worry about it.

Spoiler:
"I don't know much, we just lost ourselves here by accident and we ended up having to face those guys. I'm fairly curious as to what they were doing to be in such a hurry. But still..."

"You said you - quote - 'faced those guys.' What 'guys?'"

"They were probably delinquents or something... We arrived here a while ago and saw them filling up a truck, after that they lashed at us. Was it something they didn't want us to see, I wonder?"
As her questioning came to a close, Kyou snapped the notebook shut before stowing it away. Almost immediately after, she gathered herself, walking briskly past Trystan and towards an obvious hole in the wall. This was, presumably, where Kyou deduced that 'those guys' had just pulled out from, considering what the girl had just told them. On the other hand, the hole that was left was such an obvious one that, really, to call it a 'deduction' was perhaps more than unnecessary.

That aside, was it really okay to just let these people go without pulling any ID from them? Wasn't that a breach of protocol? He shook these thoughts from his head as Kyou shouted to him from over her shoulder, deciding that what was at hand was probably a bit more concerning than getting down the names of two random individuals. He glanced upwards, noting the presence of the security cameras that were installed; chances were that they could probably ask someone from the Office to pull up the video records from just now and simply identify these two later.

"I'm gonna have a look back there to see if there's anything they left behind."

Trystan nodded his understanding towards Kyou, before adding on the final touches to the wraps and standing himself up, while giving the male a hearty pat on the shoulders.

"This one has not found any serious injuries on you, other than some bruising. You shall be all right. Now, if you will excuse this one..."

He turned towards the building, and followed Kyou inside the hole. The wall itself was roughly blasted, the forced nature of the entry clear; the remaining bricks above his head crumbled slightly as he entered, dropping a few bits of the crumbly material onto his shoulder. Brushing it off, Trystan moved on. He stepped carefully, as the ground near the entrance had been damaged as well from the explosion that took out the wall. Looking around, it was clear that the force of the explosion was probably not one that had been professionally localized like what Anti-Skill would have done. The walls and surrounding objects had all been demolished, either deliberately or from the explosion itself.

His gut telling him that perhaps there might still be lingering dangers in a situation like this, Trystan turned his attention back towards their surroundings. As he followed Kyou's movements up the stairs, he noted the light coming from the doorway, as well as a muffled banging, followed by some more indiscernible noises. Quieting his steps as well, Trystan readied two hansha for deployment in case the noise turned out to be one of 'those guys' that had been left behind for whatever reason. He continued to concentrate on their surroundings, leaving Kyou with the task of keeping her eye on the room from which the noises had originated from.

Post  Hisakawa Miyako on Sat Nov 30, 2013 12:10 am

Upon seeing the two Judgement members disappearing in the building, Miyako looked at Akira who was finally standing up properly.

"You okay?"

"I'm better now I guess. Now what, I'm guessing you want to go through that hole giving out a suspicious aura, right?"

He had hit the bull's-eye. Miyako had indeed wanted to go take a look, but considering Akira's state she didn't think she could afford to bring him along with him.

"Mind doing me a favour?"

Akira looked at her filled with curiosity. Her request couldn't possibly have to do with going through in that building, he would've definitely got dragged before being able to say a thing if it were the case. Much to his surprise, he was pushed outside the alley.

"You get out of here. I'll give that building a quick check since there's those Judgement members here too. And don't answer 'Are you sure?' just get out. Also, don't forget those 2000 yens."

As she finished her sentence she pushed Akira out on the street with a glare that made it clear that he'd get it big time if he were to disobey, then she looked deeply at the hole in the building after he left.

(I said that, but it might be wiser to stay back in this alley for now...)

"Yosuke? Are you in here~?"

Yosuke's eyes darted towards the rear of the room here the voice had come from. Glancing back at the monitors he could see that the rest of the intruders were steadily making their way to his location.

Dammit.

The progress bar continued to inch along at a snail's pace. He was going to need more time.

As Kyou drew closer to the wall of monitors she was confronted by... nothing. Only the dull glow of the screens in an empty room. Should she decide to examine them it would be apparent that someone had accessed the computers recently. Not only that but they had been monitoring the lab's security feeds.

Looking into the room, Abel found it empty, except for some computers. It seemed things were not going his way.

He carried on a bit more as he wandered into the room, still making sure to keep aware of dangerous metal with his ability.

He also took note of the monitors. There were others approaching and some information was being downloaded. Since apparently no one had stayed with the computer to download the information, he assumed that it wasn't important. However, people were approaching. Silver thought that the best option would be to hide. He'd make a mental note of each place he could have hid, encase he got caught. His obsessive mind would pour over the details with hindsight and it'd become so obvious that he should have hid elsewhere. He looked around for the best places to hide. He moved over behind the door to the room, that was now open, and hid between it and the wall. He choose this place because it left him the option of fleeing if he had to, since it was close to the door.

He hid there as quiet as can be, and hoped anyone entering the room might be drawn to the computers instead of checking behind the door.

Re: [SS] Intensify- Episode 2

Post  Kyou Rindou on Fri Dec 06, 2013 3:51 am

Kyou crept up to the open doorway, through which light from several computer monitors bled into the hallway. She stopped just outside, not revealing herself yet. She aimed a small pocket mirror - the one vanity item she truly owned, though its purpose was for little more than peeking around corners and not actually fixing her hair or anything - around the doorframe from a low angle, so she could get an idea of what was inside.

To say she was cautions would be a bit of an understatement.

She did not enter much further than the doorway before signalling Tristain to wait.

"Watch the doorway. I'm gonna have a look inside."

Having said that, Kyou made her way into the room cautiously. If her ears could twitch out of strain, they would; Kyou was listening for any signs of breathing, shuffling clothing or feet, et cetera. The room was dim enough that someone could be hiding in the shadows. As she strained her ears, she made for the computers.

She noticed that something was downloading. After a few moments of thought, Kyou came to the conclusion that it was possible that someone was mining data from the computers in front of her wirelessly; she highly doubted thieves would simply be after something physical. If she were the one stealing from a building like this, she'd want any data she could find, too.

Without a second thought aside from remembering that she'd later have to mention why her fingerprints were on the keyboard, Kyou input a few commands into the console in front of her, and cut the internet connection completely - the computer was no longer capable of any sort of wireless communication unless that feature was re-activated. Anyone who wanted any data out of that computer would have to now walk up to the computer and either re-activate the connection, or plug into the computer with some sort of data-retrieval device to mine the data.

The whole thing took about seven seconds from the moment she actually put her foot past the doorway. After she was finished with the computer, she turned around to survey the room, and to make sure she wouldn't be attacked from behind. Her eyes scanned everything that she could see, looking for - and eliminating - places someone might hide.

There was a snap of movement behind Kyou. The sudden blur of something darting amongst the shadows of the poorly lit laboratory.

Another flicker of movement out the corner of her eye. Too fast for a human, the blur was circling the room from cover to cover at an incredible speed. Any attempt to track it led to the girl spinning in circles.

Something hard cracked against the side of Kyou's cheek as the blur sped past Kyou and off into the shadows again. A glancing blow, but hard enough to sting.

Kyou was alone again, her attacker returning to the cover of darkness and circling as they prepared their next strike.

A gust of wind blew past Abel and the door behind which he had secreted himself slammed shut in its wake, leaving him exposed.

Exposed. Silver's fragile psyche scrambled to find a response. His strict poker face did not betray the anxiety building up inside him. Confusion was one of the key driving focuses of his anxiety. What was that wind? Surely it was not natural. An ability user? What else could it be? Was it her? No one else was around. It had to be her. He had been made. He could no longer play things off like they were a joke. He had to be serious now. He could not show a sign of weakness. He could not give a hint to his identity or a tie to his group. He had to choose his next words very carefully.

"I should go," he stated flatly.

As he did he turned to the door that had just shut and moved to try and open it. It was obvious that he wouldn't get too far before hearing the response to his presence.

Something had hit Kyou, and it had hurt - her cheek was red from the recent blow it had taken. And now someone who had been hiding behind the door was trying to leave. Someone who had been in the room with her the whole time, whom she had been unaware of.

The combination of these things had led Kyou to the conclusion that someone aside from the person she was now staring at was in the room, possibly using an esper power to hit her from afar. The door hadn't opened on its own, after all. There were three people in the room, that much she was sure of; if the man she was looking at was the one who had attacked her, he wouldn't now be trying to leave in the way he currently was

"I think not," Kyou replied to the man at the door. "You're going to stand right there and explain what you're doing here." As she said this, Kyou gestured towards her Judgement armband. "As you can see, I'm with Judgement. Now start talking."

As she spoke, Kyou moved closer to the door, along the wall. She wanted to be able to see if something else came at her with her peripheral vision, just in case.

The bay of computers chimed loudly as the progress bar reached completion. A sudden blur stirred the air of the room beside Kyou as something heavy slammed into her, knocking her aside into Abel. The blur darted for the machines.

"Finally." Yosuke snatched the small USB drive from the computer. The boy standing by the monitor rolled his head to stare at Kyou and Abel. "Judgement eh? Either way you'd better just forget what you saw here." The snapping rush of air sounded again as the boy vanished from sight in a streak of colour. The door of the laboratory swung on its hinges in his wake.

In a split second he was at the roof's edge. He looked over at the nearest building, some distance across the street. It wasn't a jump he was sure he could make, even with his ability. He turned back to the rooftop staircase.

What kind of criminal halts when an officer says halt? None. So obviously, the best move to make here was to stop, just as the judgement girl had commanded. Compliance would help paint him in an innocent light. Or at least that's the conclusion his fragile psyche had come to.

He froze right at the door, with his hand on the door knob. From where she was standing, she (or anyone else) couldn't see what he was doing there, but he was obviously not turning the handle and opening the door to leave.

"Of course-" he began to say to her after she finished barking at him, however he couldn't finish as he was suddenly attacked by the unseen force. He was knocked away from the door, hit with a little girl projectile.

Exposed. Attacked. Then stared at? Now that was going too far. Staring is rude. Silver hated the rude! Once more, this all happened with out a chance to retaliate. Or so it seemed.

This rude figure that only briefly appeared by the computers bolted off through the doorway. It was the only exit, just as he had confirmed earlier. Knowing that, he had set a trap. It had taken him what felt like months compared to (what he now assumed was) the incredible speedster's speedy speediness.

As soon as he declared that he was leaving and stopped in front of the door, he had begun to work. Using his ability, he had taken one of the many tiny metal chains on his sleeve and begun to pull from it an extremely thin wire. Since he wore this metal, he was plenty familiar with it, and it was soaked in his influence. So tiny and light, the wire he made was hardly noticeable. It was what one might call a silver lining. He had attached it to the door and the door frame, with a measured length of slack between those two points, and it continued to his outfit. When the door was was opened the nearly invisible wire was stretched between the doorway. Someone hastily rushing through the doorway would catch the wire and pull it along with him. It wouldn't snap because it was unnaturally being held together by his power. He'd also make sure that wire would cling to whoever passed through the doorway, be they invisible or moving super fast. Turned out it was probably the latter.

Groaning on the ground Silver looked to his sleeve. The links of the chain he had used were slowly disappearing as their metal was being transformed and combined into more wire. That means the culprit was already moving far, pulling the wire with him.

That thief! Silver Lining quickly (but obviously not as quickly as a certain somebody and) stood up, pushing the girl off of him, not caring where he touched her. He began sprinting after the speedster following the wire. Even he could not see the silver lining, but better than that, he could feel it. The far end came to a stop at the roof. Did he loose it? No it was moving back towards the roof access door. He stopped in the hallway leading towards it. He assumed he had precious few seconds before the culprit would begin speeding down the hallway past him and out the front door. Before that, he'd quickly curl his posture, then suddenly open up, spreading his arms to the sides and thrusting his head up. As he did, all the metal chains on his person would shoot out, stretching from his body and out to he walls, floor, and ceiling. THe had created a net of chains. If anything moving too fast to see would try to force their way through it, they'd instinctively wrap around that person's limbs.

Kyou got knocked aside by something again, then she got groped, then the man was gone. Where the hell was her partner in all of this? Her dignity was in shreds!

After taking a moment to recover from the man's decidedly rough groping - which was likely just an attempt to get her off of him, though Kyou's pride still demanded vengeance - Kyou stood and attempted to follow. However, the man had seemingly disappeared.

That didn't mean Kyou couldn't track him down, though. He wasn't exactly quiet.

"Trystan! Head up to the roof!" Kyou yelled, heading there herself. She heard noises coming from the staircase leading up, and she followed as fast as her legs would carry her. On the way, however, she stopped to pick up the handle of a broom that had been simply laying on the ground.

Now armed, Kyou made her way to the roof.

Yosuke stopped in his tracks. The commotion from inside the stairwell told him that the interlopers were on their way. Glancing quickly back towards the rooftop's edge and again to the doorway he let his shoulders relax and stood waiting. He rubbed his neck where a pale blue speck pulsed with a dull light.

The girl emerged from the rooftop doorway, broom in hand. The sight was enough to make him laugh, had he not been so frustrated with the interruption.

"You don't know when to quit, do you?" He grumbled. The boy's lazy demeanour changed abruptly as his eyes flashed red with pinpricks of light. In a flash he was in Kyou's face, close enough that she could smell the peppermint on his breath. His fist arced up into her stomach and he backed away, gliding to a stop a few feet from the girl before she could muster a counterattack. "You'll need to be faster than that." He drawled with a dry chuckle.

The bolt of pain through Yosuke's head caused his knees to buckle and he growled through gritted teeth.

"Fuuuu-" He shook his head and reached for his pocket. His shaking hand flipped a small, round candy into his mouth and he swallowed it whole with some difficulty. His vision swam, head spinning with vertigo and he took a deep, quivering breath.

The red light sparked in his eyes again as he prepared to move once more

The girl from before ran past him, while he was setting up the chains. He managed to finish shortly afterwards. He had to dig the metal into the walls. It would be possible to pull the chains down, with some effort, but he had dug them in pretty well. Depending on how strong you are, it might buy a little time. He decided to hurry after the girl, but waited at the doorway, trying to get a hold of the situation. He gripped his hand tightly, feeling the metal gauntlet around it like it was an extension of that fist.

There was the instinct to rush out and save the damsel in distress when he saw the two squaring off on the roof, but this 'damsel' just happened to be a member of Judgement. She was a potential enemy, who might stand in his way... or a powerful ally if he played his cards right.

He hesitated, his fragile mind not sure how things were going to turn out. He saw the window for success slowly begin to close with each passing second. He felt the situation was getting out of hand, and anxiety was starting to build up. He felt like he was suffocating, and didn't know what to do next.

Have you ever felt like you had to do something, but at the same time knew you should back off? That was how Miyako was feeling right now, enter that building and see what's up, or don't enter it and miss out on the "fun"?

Logic would have it that no, she'd only get in trouble if she tried to go in there on her own, her ability wouldn't allow her to be okay alone if something happened and she couldn't just walk around with guns all over her belt.

Her curiosity, however, would have it that she should go and see what's happening. It's not as if she wasn't used to dangerous or bizarre situations, and there wouldn't be any fun in coming back the following day...

"Excuse me..."

***

They ran hand-in-hand, or rather, one of them was being dragged by the other in a fairly forceful way. Their direction was the rooftop, they hadn't met a single soul on the way there so she figured something was going on there.

Ignoring the one suspicious figure in the way, they both arrived to the rooftop, where it seemed that the female Judgement member was fighting someone... with a broom.

"It looks something interesting is going on up here, am I right?" She grinned. "..." And he, sighed out of exasperation.

But where was the male Judgement member?

Kyou doubled over, coughing and gasping for breath. Yosuke had struck her diaphragm, winding the young Judgement member. In a blur of movement he slipped to her side and dropped low into a sweep that knocked Kyou off her feet.

"Looks like the cavalry's arrived." He said with a derisive spit. His form flickered briefly and he shot backwards in a flash of movement. "Well? I don't have all day." He beckoned Miyako and Abel towards him.

Abel remained motionless, his mind locked in a wheelspin. Things had spiraled out of control so quickly. Hadn't he been sent to investigate? He hadn't been intending to get in a fight or even announce his presence. So how had it all gone so wrong?

His legs started to move without his instruction, backpedalling towards the staircase and away from the dangerous individual that stood by the roof's edge. He justified it in his mind as a 'tactical retreat'. If he could regroup and find an advantageous position then he could...

He could...

He could do something at least.

"What are you waiting for?" Kyou half gasped, half shouted at the others. An impressive feat considering she was still winded. Using the broom handle as a crutch she rose to her feet and without looking to see if her 'back-up' was following her lead the girl charged at Yosuke, swinging the makeshift club with all her might. Her lunge carried her to the roof's edge and she skidded to a halt, waving her arms to catch her balance. The yawning chasm of the streets below called to Kyou.

Yosuke appeared a few feet from his attacker, nonchalantly picking at his ear. Kyou whirled, swiping at his head with a backhanded swipe that he ducked lazily.

Re: [SS] Intensify- Episode 2

"I'm afraid you're going to have to give me a very quick little explanation on your ability if you have one." She whispered at Keima, making it obvious with her tone of voice that doing otherwise or leaving wasn't going to be feasible.

Despite the Judgement girl nearly falling off the roof from trying to attack Yosuke, Miyako didn't budge. Her ability wasn't an offensive one and she wasn't sure if the young boy next to her could do anything, so she had to analyse the situation while listening to Keima's explanation before doing anything.

(Wait a minute, that blur just now... Rapid movement? If his ability is doing something to his speed, then I might be able to use my own ability here.)

However that would only serve to confuse him from the slowness at best, if he had something else up his sleeve then it'd be pretty much useless, but she had an idea in mind that would make it worth a shot. She quickly explained it to Keima in a sentence and slightly moved away from him, not really leaving him a choice of accepting or not.

"Heeeeeey~! Weirdo with the weird speed~! She prepared herself to use her ability on Yosuke at any time even if she got hit, and taunted him to come near them.

Rikka stepped back from the edge, a little shaken for her brush with death. Readying the broom in her hands like a sword she charged for Yosuke once again, swiping her makeshift weapon at his back. And once again she hit thin air, the blonde Esper swooping towards Miyako in the blink of an eye. He drew back his fist to rain a torrent of blows upon the defenseless girl.

A hail of fists slammed into Miyako's face and torso. The punches lacked power but were still enough to rattle her head. With Miyako stunned Yosuke turned his attention to Keima. His hapless victim wheeled to face the blur of movement in a motion that appeared sluggish and almost comical to the attacking Esper. He raised his foot and stamped hard on Keima's chest, throwing him backwards towards the roof's perilous edge.

Keima fell, rolling across the rooftop and tumbling from the edge where his instinctive flailing caught the ledge by his fingertips. Dangling precariously above the city streets, the boy called out to Miyako for help.

In that time Yosuke had already darted past the static figure of Abel, who stood motionless in the dark. He cracked a mocking grin as he vanished down the staircase in the blink of an eye.

And with that he was away into the night. Gone.

Anti Skill arrived not long after and Keima, Miyako and Kyou found themselves standing before a woman with raven black hair.

"If it hadn't been for your friend here you could all be dead." Aiho gestured to Trystan as she scalded the teenagers for their reckless behaviour. The boy looked sheepishly away as she praised him, perhaps feeling Kyou's accusatory stare. Keima in particular was shaking with shock from his brush with death.

"I'm glad you're all okay." Aiho looked over towards the security monitors. "But it looks like whoever did this got away clean. We can't find any trace of them." She sighed. "What were they after?"

"Yo, we got it!" Kenji blasted the horn of the truck in the empty shipping yard. The rest of his gang spilled from the rear doors and started to unload their cargo.

"Good." The deep, rumbling voice spoke over the sound of heavy footsteps on concrete. The long-coated figure approached the first crate, a gloved hand running across the brushed metal surface almost lovingly. "And the data?"

Yosuke slid to a stop beside the truck.

"Right here." He tossed the USB stick towards the long-coated person.

"You have done well." The figure spread a handful of vials over the metal crate and the gang members eagerly reached for them.

"With this we can begin phase two of the Harvest."

Kenji grinned with sadistic glee.
