A Certain Scientific Experiment (Arc 3 Main Story)

Post  Aleister Crowley on Fri Nov 22, 2013 2:58 pm

Previously:

The battle in Academy City has been decided for now. Index has been saved and the rogue alchemist Aureolus Izzard has been captured. The uneasy truce between Science and Magic continues as Necessarius carefully plan their next move in the wake of recent revelations.

The Imagine Breaker, a mysterious power beyond both Magic and Science that can crush even the combined magic of 103'000 grimoires.

A monster had appeared before Aureolus Izzard. A beast, black as the darkest of blacks took flight against the glorious white light of Index's attack. It soared through the air towards the girl, her arms spread wide as though to embrace the hellish thing. Like the messiah on the crucifix. The dark miasma that had enveloped Kamijou Touko like a shroud coalesced into a snapping serpent's head.

The terrible dragon roared as Touko reared back her fist. The cruel jaws with their jagged fangs opened wide...
What is the true nature of that power and how will it affect the delicate balance of power between Academy City and the Magic Side?

The black coated stranger stood beneath the apparatus that contained 'that person'.

That person, Aleister Crowley, was one known to many as the 'wickedest man alive'.
Meanwhile, a grisly experiment is taking place in the shadows of Academy City's dark side.

The clone’s eyes widened with unmasked surprise and fear, and she quickly turned to flee. Before she could even take a step however, a blur of white slammed her into a vending machine, strong fingers tightly wrapped around her throat.

***

KRAK!

The clone's struggling ceased suddenly with the sharp jerk of Accelerator's wrist and he let the body fall as he turned to leave.
The Level 5 Railgun, Misaka Mikoto discovers the truth as she confronts the monster at the centre of it all.

Academy City's Strongest Esper.

Accelerator.

The coin burned a path towards the ablino boy with a screaming howl of chittering lightning. That sheer, overpowering force of a metal projectile launched at One thousand and thirty meters per second was capable of tearing apart even the toughest armoured tanks like paper. Against a weapon like that, no normal enemy could possibly hope to survive.

The fragile looking boy would surely be torn apart.

Accelerator reached out lazily with his right hand...

...and plucked the coin from the air.

He opened his hand and the smoking coin dropped to his feet with a clatter.
Against such overwhelming power and with the city's underworld watching her every move, Mikoto finds herself enveloped by darkness with no way out.

This is the tale of when Magic and Science collide...

Saturday 24th July

As Mikoto awoke surprised to a painful chop on the head, her head reflexively snapped upwards to see who had chopped her.

"Ow! Hey! What was tha..."

The girl who had chopped her and was currently standing in front of her was none other than Natsumi, who had been walking nearby in a visibly tired manner. However, that was none of Mikoto's concern at the moment as she decided to question her again.

"You..."

"What the hell were you doing, sleeping in a place like this?"

"Huh?"

The question took Mikoto by surprise. She had not expected Natsumi to ask such an unrelated question to the events of the previous night. Looking around, she realised she had indeed fallen asleep in a park after the whole incident.

(Now that she mentions it, I guess I did fall asleep here... Wait, that's none of her con-)

"You're going to go through with this, aren't you?"

Again, the sudden subject-changing question took Mikoto by surprise and this time confusion. She however quickly understood what Natsumi had meant and glared at Natsumi as she repeated her question, raising the unusual amount of animosity between the two.

"You're going to go up against the experiments by yourself, right?"

"Are you going to try to stop me?"

"Of course not." She paused mid-sentence to turn her back to Mikoto and walked off "After all, you're the Level 5 Railgun, right?"

Ignoring the obvious mockery on Natsumi's part, Mikoto's glare had reduced to a simple frown as Natsumi walked away.

"Well then, now what...?"

Mikoto stood up from the bench she had slept on, and stayed motionless for a moment while thinking about what she should do next.

What a night.

The boy sloped through the park with a vacant expression. The events of the night were fresh in his mind. The battle with Izzard and the thing that had appeared from Kamijou's arm. Just what had he gotten himself into this time? Anyone would question their sanity after seeing what he had seen tonight.

That thing... The vision of a dragon that had coalesced from the severed arm of Kamijou Touko. Was that the true form of her Imagine Breaker? Or simply a phantasm conjured from Izzard's fevered imagination and brought to life by his Ars Magna?

And just what was to become of Index now? Guy stopped and looked up into the night sky. A thin, bitter smile twisted at the corners of his mouth.

In the end he'd been powerless to help that girl. He slipped the last cigarette from his pack into his mouth. The lighter in his hand sparked a few times before igniting and he continued on at a contemplative pace. He barely noticed the girl standing by the park bench until he passed her.

Guy stopped in his tracks and plucked the cigarette from his mouth as he spoke.

"Isn't it a little late for you to be out here on your own?"

A voice had pulled Mikoto out of her deep thoughts. When she realised who had just talked to her she sighed before replying.

"Oh, it's you...  There isn't anything wrong with it, is there? Besides, what are you doing here so 'late' in the first place?"

Anyone who knew her could tell her voice and reply lacked the usual energy she had despite her attempt to retort like she usually does.

"Oh, it's you... There isn't anything wrong with it, is there?

He chuckled wearily at that comment.

"I suppose not." He stopped at the bench and sat down. He took a draw of his cigarette again. He didn't feel like arguing over something like a curfew. Not now.

"Besides, what are you doing here so 'late' in the first place?"

The weariness in Mikoto's voice did not pass unnoticed.

"Can't you tell I've been out enjoying myself?" He managed a soft smile that was less than convincing. Guy brushed a hand through his hair as he sat back. "It's been a rough night." He answered truthfully.

"You're as relaxed on school rules as ever..."

She stretched and yawned for the first time since she woke up while sitting down on the bench as well. After finally noticing the cigarette, she sighed in exasperation. Though she didn't feel like giving him a whole sermon about him smoking.

"'Enjoying yourself' while smoking in public even though it's not allowed, and at this hour... Did something happen?"

"Nothing you need to worry about." Guy said with that same tired voice. He spared a glance over at the girl. She looked exhausted.

"You look like you've had a long night yourself. Anything you wanna talk about?" He offered, knowing the gesture was in vain.

"Is that so...?"

A slight frown appeared on her face. She did feet a bit worried but she knew it was pointless to push the questions any further. She also had her own problems to deal with.

"I just didn't get enough sleep last night. That's it."

She felt like she wasn't going to get some good, restful night for a while. Thinking about it, dealing with the experiments would probably require her to skip classes for a good while... She rose up from the bench and looked at Guy.

"Well, don't go 'enjoying yourself' to the point of forgetting about classes."

Guy watched her leave. His blank expression guarding the concern he felt. Though he couldn't tell what was bothering the girl, he knew that it was more than a simple lack of sleep. But still, it wasn't as though she was about to confide in him, even if he pressed the matter.

The tinkling of a tiny bell alerted the boy to his latest companion. The familiar looking black cat mewled softly, approaching across the backrest of the bench to perch by his head.

"Hey, buddy." Guy looked up at the scruffy feline. "Looks like its just you and me now." The cat hopped down onto his lap and sat there nonchalantly as Guy stroked his fur.

"So, what's new?" Guy asked, gazing back up into the night sky.

***

The young girl kicked her legs slightly as she sat under the shade of a tree. Uiharu Kazari was humming quietly to herself. Beside the short haired girl another teenager paced about excitedly. Saten Ruiko was already eager to start their day out. After all, Summer was a precious time of year for students. Those brief few months of freedom had a habit of disappearing all too fast.

"What's taking them so long?" Ruiko tapped her foot impatiently.

"Shirai-san said that she'd be here once she was done with a few errands, but it's not like Misaka-san to be late..." Kazari noted before shrugging to herself. It was hardly the end of the world, and she was certain that Mikoto would have a reason for being late when she did arrive.

Ruiko seemed unhappy with that answer, but she sat down heavily next to Kazari and waited as well, resting her cheek on her hand with a bored frown.

After checking the contents of the USB that Kaede Faye had given her, Mikoto learned that more than 20 facilities were involved in the experimenting. The USB also contained the schedule for the actual experiments, and the list of the facilities involved which would help her in taking them down.

(More than 20 facilities, huh.)

Thinking deeply about it, physically attacking so many facilities would take too much time, even if she just destroyed the equipment without destroying the facility itself. She needed to find a way to take care of at least the majority of the facilities, and an idea quickly came to her as she pulled her PDA out and looked at it.

(I should be able to do something with this.)

With her hacking abilities, she could easily use cyberterrorism to take down the facilities without having to attack them physically. Considering the amount of facilities, it could take some time but it was feasible and much faster than physical attacks. After turning her PDA on, she took a deep breath and started the hacking.

***

Mikoto remembered a while later that she originally had a day out with her friends, and she hadn't warned them that she wouldn't be attending. But with the whole mess she caused, she didn't want to take the risk of involving them or anyone else.

She would properly apologise to them once all this mess was taken care of, but for now she needed to focus on the hacking.

In a darkened laboratory the lank haired man in a labcoat hunched over his screen with a satisfied smirk. Amai Ao marvelled at his own brilliance. Though the destruction of Tree Diagram had set the experiment back greatly the supercomputer had at least managed to provide some warning of Misaka Mikoto's impending involvement.

It was amazing really. Some time before the mysterious incident that destroyed the satellite it had informed the researchers of Level 6 Shift that its calculations had determined a significant probability of the Electromaster becoming aware of her clones and acting against the experiment.

This hacking attempt proved Tree Diagram's hypothesis beyond a shadow of a doubt. Only an Electromaster and a skilled one at that would be able to infiltrate their systems so effectively. He had been right to plant that data within reach of Kaede Faye. She had performed her mission adimrably, a Trojan horse unaware of the danger it carried.

Amai Ao's smug grin widened and his shoulders shook with a quiet chuckle. The screen in front of him declared its task complete with a chime.

Trace complete. Application activated. Remote control of target system is now active.

A high resolution map of Academy City overlayed onto the screen and a small flashing dot appeared over Mikoto's current location.

"Exactly as predicted." Amai Ao congratulated himself.

The fragrant air within a certain area of District 7 continuously wandered about. The presence mostly of Oujo-samas were here in the Dormitories located outside of the School Garden. For someone like Haragi to be roaming around would be unthinkable since it was only an area meant for girls to partake. For now, Haragi was safe from getting removed from the premises as he had not entered the School Garden so to speak. Though at this point Haragi would not have cared if he had gotten awkward glances from those around, he just needed to gather information about the whereabouts of Misaka Mikoto.

The call from Kaede's nurse this morning still left him even more worried, as she had found out why Kaede still was unconscious. The nurse had also managed to get a hold of the security cameras and found out the physical appearance of the very same person exit her room before Haragi had arrived. Someone had supposedly tampered with her IV pack keeping her unconscious for a while but out of harm's way. This had meant someone wanted to keep her asleep, but why didn't this individual take the easy way and killing her off? Could he have been following orders from someone higher up?  Haragi couldn't think of anyone he'd known who fit with that description so it must mean he is either Kaede's acquaintance or... someone from the dark side.

In either case, Misaka Mikoto would be his best bet if he were to find anything out about the incident revolving around Kaede and why she's being targeted.

He thought to himself,

"Talking to spoiled rich brats... would be a major pain in the ass.... but I can't back off now..."

The boy stood in one spot with a grim look on his face, questioning who he should first speak with, as those exiting or entering the dormitories premises seemingly knew about the Electromaster but to an extent. He didn't want to waste time carelessly, so he had to choose wisely.

Re: A Certain Scientific Experiment (Arc 3 Main Story)

Post  Mari Illustrious Makinami on Wed Jan 01, 2014 1:05 am

From a top the higher buildings in Academy City, the winds were much stronger than down below. The chances of falling off of one of these buildings, or falling off the smaller buildings and surviving, was much lower. This was a place that most people would want to avoid going, due to the blatant self endangerment it would cause.

Mari wasn't most people, she was the kind of person to causally hang out on the high altitude, windy buildings, and even manage to maintain a casual conversation on a cell phone.

"Well, that's about everything I know!" Mari said in a loud voice, plugging the ear opposite to the one she held her cell phone to. "Do you want anything else Kerri?! Maybe you'll have some time to hang out later!"

"I'd love to meet up with you guys, maybe play some games, but I've got this Judgement crap to take care of."

"Awwwwww, come on!" Mari stamped her feet childishly, causing the space beneath her foot to start cracking, "I never see you anymore!  I miss the days when it was just us, working and having fun without a care in the world! Why couldn't things have stayed the same?!"

There was a pause on the line, and Mari swallowed some of her saliva. She knew exactly why he left, but she was still angry about it. And there was a very short list of people she wanted to get angry.

Kerri happened to be on that list.

So she was very surprised when she heard a very not-serious tone respond on the line. "Now Mari, haven't you been taught by everyone that things happen for a reason! Just because I'm not with Deep-Six anymore doesn't mean I'm cutting ties with my friends!"

"But that's what you tried to do, right?" Mari stated, and was answered immediately this time,

"I need to get going right now, duty calls as it were!"And she heard a beep, indicating the conversation was over.

"Hey-wait-Kerri!!!" Mari shouted into the phone angrily, stopping as soon as she was sure she couldn't talk to her friend anymore. Her eyes narrowed at anger, and she considered taking her anger out on her innocent cell phone,

No, no, just let it go. I'll be able to talk with him later. Calm down Mari, deep breathes, picture s beach house on the waterfront... waves splashing on the shore... seagulls cawing... wind blowing gently though the trees... rage building...! Hatred intensifying...!! Urge to destroy calm beach fronts everywhere starting to overwhelm me!!!

A quick smack on her own head, and she was back to her senses,

"How do these people manage to picture something so boooooooriiiiing, and not go crazy!" Mari huffed to herself, rather loudly, putting away her cell phone, and stretching her arms.

Well, what else is there to do for now, except see how I can enjoy myself on my own... although... Mari, with a running start, leapt off the building she was on, and had a thought,

I wonder what 'The Railgun' is up to right now? She then reached into the pocket of her dark jacket, taking out a small, frog shaped button, almost losing it, but than managing to grab it (and not crush it) in her hand as she fell,

What am I gonna do with this and that stupid Tokiwadai uniform now? Mari thought as she landed on the ground, with an abnormally low impact, and and dashing forward, slipping past people as she moved... for the most part.

She leapt off the sidewalk, to the wall of a building, and then jumped off of a light post, absentmindedly moving forward as she thought, eyeing the Gekota Badge.

I should just get rid of it, but... I don't want to risk getting Railgun mad. She might make a cool friend... Mari made for a long jump, hopping over several building, and stopping, letting herself fall in top of a moving truck, which she decided to lay down on, I guess 'll see if I can bring, just to get it off of my hands, Mari kicked her legs up with a bit of extra force, just long enough for her to put her feet on the edge of the truck and kick off of it.

After leaping over several buildings, hitching a few rides with a few vehicles going her way (without the drivers noticing) and barreling through more crowds of people, Mari had finally managed to find Tokiwadai Middle School.

Ignoring some of the commentary of girls heading to their classes, Mari managed to find the  dorms, and casually walked towards them, flipping the Gekota badge in the air like a coin.

She put the badge away, however, after noticing a young man with dark brown hair skulking around the dormitory, seemingly to avoid being noticed.

Wonder what this guy's doing? Hopefully something creepy so I have an excuse to hit something! Mari grinned as she held up a clenched fist, but then she noticed that he looked fairly familiar. She took a few steps closer to get a better look, and than realized who it was,

"Hey, aren't you the Emo-Fairy?" She said, without thinking about the consequences of her actions,

"Hey, aren't you the Emo-Fairy?"

A familiar voice called out to him. Haragi Faye was leaning against a wall outside the dormitory, scouting for a potential Tokiwadai student to speak with. However, as turned his head towards the direction the voice had come from, he started to realize who it had belonged to. A brunette who neatly kept her hair done in twin tails, approached him. What had confirmed Haragi's identity about her was her distinct green eyes. She was the girl from before whom he had interrogated when he was searching for Index's whereabouts yesterday morning but during that time she sealed her identity by covering her head with a hoodie.

But what was she exactly doing here? Her school uniform dictated that she wasn't a Tokiwadai student. She must have been here for her own purposes. The chances of her knowing about Misaka or even being involved with her were then questionable, but at the same time she might have no clue of what Haragi wanted to know. The boy sighed in disappointment as he fully faced her with his hands slid deeply into his pant's pockets.

"You must have bad luck... running into me again... and piquing me curiosity of what you might know.... then again you might be as clueless as before... thus wasting my own time... alleyway girl..."

What Haragi knew of her was that she had aggressive esper powers, and by the way she demonstrated it that time he could safely assume she was at a high level. In order for Haragi to safely question her, he needed to make sure he was able to defend himself whenever necessary. She also seemed hard to cope with, so it might be more of a problem to get answers from her compared to anyone else.

"Now then... do you happen to know the whereabouts of Misaka Mikoto?... don't bother wasting my time by beating around the bush... I'd like it if I don't have to speak with someone like you as much... so just answer the question..."

His eyes narrowed, bringing forth a sense of intimidation towards her.

The young man looked back at Mari, causing a scowl to immediately appear on her face.

Right, this guy's Kaede's bro, right? Haragi...? Better not tell him that. The only info I have on him right now is that he's supposedly more dangerous than me... and I know that's saying something, Mari thought sardonically,

"Freakin' perfect..." Mari muttered to herself,

"You must have bad luck... running into me again... and piquing me curiosity of what you might know.... then again you might be as clueless as before... thus wasting my own time... alleyway girl..." Mari's eyes narrowed, and her scowl lightened, giving her an almost sad, but very mocking look,

"Oh, I have bad luck? Better than having bad insults. 'Alleyway girl'?" Mari turned away to the ground looking almost sincerely upset, "The fact that you thought that would insult me is just insulting in itself..."

Mari than wiped off her supposedly hurt face, and looked up at him seriously as he spoke, Now than... Mari took a step back, in the case that she needed to make a quick exit. There was no way to know what an esper was capable of, even in populated locations like this. Despite the lack of a crowd, common sense dictated that both parties simply remain calm and maintain a peaceful setting,

Do you happen to know the whereabouts of Misaka Mikoto?... don't bother wasting my time by beating around the bush... I'd like it if I don't have to speak with someone like you as much... so just answer the question..."

Fortunately, both parties seemed to be allowing common sense to guide them.

.........Well, I can take him more seriously than his sister, but taking him less seriously than her doesn't seem very possible.

"Yeah, sure, whatever..." She muttered, and waved her hand, "Enough pretending to be threatening, I get it asshole. No, I don't know where the Railgun is, I was just... passing through." Mari stated, giving an unconvincing pause.

Not one of my best excuses, but not one of my worst. Mari thought,

"But!!!" Mari states quickly, before Haragi can give a proper response, "I can help you find out. I can just ask some of the staff or students about where she is." Mari than paused, waiting to hear Haragi's retort before putting on a smug smile, "I know it seems like a simple task, but I have the liberty to do so, unlike you because... well, let's just say that if we were both wearing girl's uniforms right now, you'd be the only one in drag." Mari stated, and crossed her arms, putting a frown back on her face, and speaking seriously.

"I just have a question or two of my own for you. Info for info. Sound fair?" I need to get a bit info on 'The Railgun' anyway, may as well see if i can learn a little about this jerk on my own.

"Yeah, sure, whatever... Enough pretending to be threatening, I get it asshole. No, I don't know where the Railgun is, I was just... passing through."

Haragi sighed in disappointment as he was about to turn around and completely ignore her due to her useless she was to him. He had no concern for her motives of why she was her as long had nothing to do with Misaka Mikoto. Talking to her more would only waste his time. As Haragi was about to make a closing statement, she intervened at the last moment.

"But!!! .... I can help you find out. I can just ask some of the staff or students about where she is. I know it seems like a simple task, but I have the liberty to do so, unlike you because... well, let's just say that if we were both wearing girl's uniforms right now, you'd be the only one in drag."

Haragi had thought about the offer. It was true that asking around in the School Garden would be more effective than asking around here. But for her to enter the female exclusive School Garden, she would still need the proper circumstances to enter if she wasn't a student from any of the schools. But why would she want to help Haragi when she clearly despised his own presence. It was obvious she has some kind of ulterior motive behind this, but what was it exactly?

"... What do you expect in return?..."

She crossed her arms, frowning before she gave her response.

"I just have a question or two of my own for you. Info for info. Sound fair?"

What kind of information would she need? Why is she suddenly interested in Haragi? If she didn't have any suspicious motives, Haragi then could come to one conclusion. As he sighed in disappointment upon realizing this, he spoke bitterly,

"If you're trying to get a date out of me... then I'm not interested... I don't have time to play 'relationship' with girls... especially when I have my own girl to deal with..."

Mari waited calmly for a response, hoping that he'd agree, and not turn her down. What she got wasn't what she expected.

"If you're trying to get a date out of me... then I'm not interested... I don't have time to play 'relationship' with girls... especially when I have my own girl to deal with..."

There was a long pause, and Mari could only stare sadly at the boy in front of her. She took a brief moment to chuckle to herself before frowning again and telling him,

"No, that's... not it at all. Though it is good to know that the idea of spending time with me is enough to make you emotionally upset," Mari said scowling, and gave a sidelong glance to the wall as she muttered, "I sure feel sorry for whatever girl has to put up with you." She than nodded sadly to herself and put her hands on her hips,

He's probably talking about his sister... I doubt he knows much about what Accelerator did, but I might as well see if I can get anything out of him. It's worth a shot.

"Look, I was just wondering two things, and I want-listen closely this time-information out of you. Did you get that, or was I going too fast for you?" Mari huffed to herself before continuing, "And feel free to answer the whole truth-and you can't say you were just passing through."

Mari than held up one finger on her right hand, "Number one-why were you staking out the alley when we first met? I'm just slightly curious since you seemed somewhat willing to murder me in broad daylight over finding me." She than held up her second finger, "Number two... why are you looking for the Railgun exactly? Has she given into her Level 5-instinct and become craz...ier than before and done something bad to you?"

Mari than put her hands behind her head to give off a casual demeanor, "It just seems odd you'd go to all this trouble for one of seven espers only known for causing trouble... to put it lightly in most cases."

Despite her annoyance with him, Mari was genuinely curious about what he was trying to accomplish. He couldn't know about the Railgun meeting with his sister... could he?

Well, no point wondering. Guess I'll listen to what he has to say.

If the reason she wanted information about him wasn't what Haragi originally thought to be, then why was she so interested in him suddenly? The girl seemed like the type who would be finished with Haragi after what he put her through. She must have some kind of motive if she was that kind of information. Could she be someone sent from the dark side? He had to account for the possibility for whoever was responsible for his sister's injuries also had planned to place Haragi as a target. Or was she just a innocent bystander who was simply curious? It was still too early to tell either.

With a bored look in his eyes, he asked,

"Why have you suddenly taken interest in me then?... What would you exactly gain if I told you my intentions behind those actions?"

"C'mon, lets go." Ruiko pouted, folding her arms behind her head as she walked off indignantly. Kazari hesitated to follow, glancing back between Ruiko and Kuroko.

"I'm telling you, she'll be here soon." The twin-tailed teleporter stated decisively. Though as she looked about the doubt in her eyes became more and more pronounced. As much as she hated to admit it, it appeared that Mikoto would not be joining them anytime soon.

Kazari offered a few words of quiet encouragement to her friend as they both joined Ruiko.

"It's not like Onee-sama to be late." Kuroko spared one final glance back at their arranged meeting spot.

The woman, Haragi's handler had received a call from an unknown source. An untraceable call bounced through countless relays throughout the city. Whoever was responsible did not want to be identified and was able enough to ensure that happened.

Such a call would be concerning at the best of times. But more worrying than its nature was the information it provided. A planned attack on an important research facility. An attack by a most unexpected enemy...

The Railgun. Academy City's elite Level 5.

Who could ignore information like that? There was only one possible outcome; the deployment of forces against the Electromaster, Misaka Mikoto and an end to the threat against Level 6 Shift.

Amai Ao had seen to it in the space of a single phonecall.

"Nothing," Mari told Haragi, making sure to avoid saying his name. She technically didn't know him, though it would probably be better to say she wasn't supposed to know him.

"I'm bored and curious about why you threatened to kill me, and why you're searching for the Railgun, a Level 5. They're all pretty dangerous, and you seem like the type who would sooner flip off everyone in a dangerous situation and walk away from it than run to help." Mari leaned against a wall,

"But, honestly, what do I know? I'm just a delinquent alley girl who was nearly assaulted by the Emo Fairy. Why should I be curious?" Mari said, clearly being facetious,

"Come on, you don't threaten someone's life and just pass it ff like you bumped into them, a lot of normal people would Judgement or Anti-Skill on you, whether there's any violence or not. It's something any idiot should understand, but you seem like a very... special person." Mari said, and put a scowl on her face,

"So, am I going to get anything out of you, or are we just wasting our time here? Because if so, good luck sneaking into a girl's dorm. I hope that girl you were talking about doesn't hear about it, ehehehe!" Mari giggled immaturely, and waited for his response,

So, what'll it be Emo-Fairy?

"You think too well of me..."

Haragi kept his calm yet dull stature after Mari's spiel about his actions. He didn't expect her to understand his reasons, so he was left unphased knowing well of her ignorance. The Level 4 Esper continued,

"Not only that... you sound as if I actually need your help... "

There were plenty of other Tokiwadai students to ask, and he had better chances of getting information out of them than putting his faith on someone untrustworthy and who doesn't even go to school. Even if she did choose to help, Haragi himself didn't prefer to sit around and wait for information to come to him. After all, he couldn't let anyone else get involved in his affairs. It was his own burden to deal with alone.

"... But... I guess I'll humour you for a bit..."

The wind died down, as he continued to speak,

"My reason for the actions from that time... even now trying to find the Railgun are all but the same... I've been wandering in the darkness for longer than I can imagine... knowing well I'll never reach that tiny glint of light from the far distance... instead, I've chosen to prevent the others consumed by darkness from harming that light... all because of the sins I've caused in the past that keep reminding me to carry out the burden I have..."

His eyes were distant, as he was reminded of those regretful times for a few short moments. He was one the pursuit of trying to find that certain young nun, only because his priorities were set straight by the one person who was able to overcome his resolve. Misaka Mikoto was the only person who would know about who injured his sister and why. If he hadn't resolved this then his burden would only expand and is resolve would weaken. He used whatever effective method to prevent the darkness from ever reaching those innocent. But of course, there was no one who would be able to easily understand this.

"That is my reason... Interpret it how you will... I simply have a duty to fulfill and that's all there is to it... You shouldn't be able to understand easily unless you were already involved..."

His sharpened eyes now glared into the Mari's as if a hunter caught sight of it's prey.

"You think too well of me... Not only that... you sound as if I actually need your help..." No, I'd say someone with a power like yours is pretty damned special,

Mari listened to Haragi speak, fully expecting to get stone-walled by him. She wanted answers, but it was easy to tell that the person before her was reluctant to be anywhere within ten feet her,

"If that's how you feel, I guess it's-"

"... But... I guess I'll humour you for a bit..." Haragi said, cutting Mari off,

"...Will you now?" Mari said, focused on what he would say next,

"My reason for the actions from that time... even now trying to find the Railgun are all but the same... I've been wandering in the darkness for longer than I can imagine... knowing well I'll never reach that tiny glint of light from the far distance... instead, I've chosen to prevent the others consumed by darkness from harming that light... all because of the sins I've caused in the past that keep reminding me to carry out the burden I have..."

Mari noticed his eyes clouded over, how they seemed to be staring at something else entirely, despite Haragi having his sights set on her,

...I think I get what he's saying, but it's not something a normal student would understand... no, this is clearly meant to be vague, Mari crossed her arms, Sounds like the Emo-Fairy's some sort of... repentant sinner or some shit, trying to keep "poor innocent me" out of his problems. I never really got the full scoop on what his damage was... might be worth a look at later on,

"That is my reason... Interpret it how you will... I simply have a duty to fulfill and that's all there is to it... You shouldn't be able to understand easily unless you were already involved...", Haragi glared at Mari, and Mari countered with her own, careful to let him know he has no chance of scaring her off,

Well, I guess that's all I'm getting out of him for now now. Nothing really useful, but I at least know he's dead set on fighting the 'Darkside' or whatever goody-two-shoes' like him call it. Might as well wrap this up, and give the dog his bone,

Mari's serious nature fell off her face immediately, and she raised her arms up, stretching them, "Mmmm, is that all?" Mari placed her hands behind her head, in a relaxed maner, "Man, if I wanted to hear some poetry... well, actually, I'd never want to hear any poetry. I guess that's all I'm getting out of you!" Mari dramatically turned around and started walking away, "Thanks for nothing!"

However, mid-stride, Mari Mari stopped and spoke calmly, "Truth be told, I think we're both wasting our time here talking. The local gangs that normally get zapped by the Railgun haven't seen hide nor hair of her." Mari continued walking forward, "Odds are, if she's anywhere, it's probably nowhere near here," Mari said offhandedly, before moving into a run, and leaping off,

Well, one piece of overall useless information for another isn't too bad. Oh well." Mari hopped onto one building, leaping high into the air towards another, "He still pisses me of, so i really can't wait for the day I can smack that smug look off his face, She thought gleefully, slamming her fist into her palm.

Phone in hand and small paper note in the other, she was still exhausted from the heavy night and dream she had. She however now had to head to the 6th district, and preferably with someone along. And the only number available to her (that wasn't currently being a terrorist, at least.) was that of a certain teacher's.

As she made her way to the dormitory to change her clothes, she hesitated before sending the message as she could've very well ask a classmate instead, but she didn't feel like it would help her more than going alone.

「Meet me in the 6th district, I might need your help with something.」

Sent. Now she just had to change, head to the 6th district and wait there, but she halted once she saw an unfamiliar figure near the dormitory. It hadn't been long since she first saw the face of Haragi Faye, so it didn't take a while for her to recognise him. Was he looking for Mikoto? In any cases, it worked out for her pretty well.

"What are you doing here?"

"Man, if I wanted to hear some poetry... well, actually, I'd never want to hear any poetry. I guess that's all I'm getting out of you! Thanks for nothing!"

Mari didn't seem to be fully satisfied by his answer. But unlike many other people, she didn't seem to be confused of his vague explanation. She simply shrugged it off while beginning to walk away towards the opposite direction. From that point, Haragi had a feeling she wasn't like the others. Instead, she was someone who was stuck in a similar situation. But the real question is, was she apart of the Dark Side? The answer itself required some digging and crucial time, but that information didn't concern him as of now. There was absolutely no point in finding out.

The twin tailed brunette paused her movement,

"Truth be told, I think we're both wasting our time here talking. The local gangs that normally get zapped by the Railgun haven't seen hide nor hair of her."

Haragi's expression remained unchanged. He couldn't exactly pinpoint her intentions nor could he tell if she was bluffing or not about that fact. But for some reason, he felt that she wasn't lying. There was something about her that he couldn't put his tongue on that shown that. Silence filled the air as he watched her leave. Haragi didn't bother to say anything but quietly watched her figure disappear. He realized that staying here any longer would have been a waste of time He could even tell that his eerie presence here made it uneasy for the Tokiwadai students to approach him. Trying to talk to them at that point would be pointless since they would be too scared to answer.

The darkened hair boy simply sighed out of annoyance. He couldn't stay here any longer. If what she said was true, then Misaka Mikoto hasn't been at her dorm for some time. There then would be a some reason following that. All Haragi could conclude for now that she's been involved into something that ended up involving his sister. His only source of information as of now would be his sister, but she was still unconscious since he left the hospital this morning. That leaves him waiting for his sister's nurse to provide the supposed images of the individual who was alongside with Misaka Mikoto when she brought her sister in for treatment.

He bared his teeth as he clenched his right fist, eyes widen. THUD! He slammed his curled fist hard against the rough brick wall beside him, careless of the bruises he obtained.

"DAMNIT!"

He cursed himself. He began to speak within his mind.

"If only... if only I hadn't been ignorant of what's been going on... I should have known something was up when you had a Level 5 over at our house... Because of that... I let that darkness through... and you were seriously hurt.... But... I'm not going to give up... I will find out what's been going on... because... I have a life long debt to owe to you back... for accepting a monster like me to live normal life with you after all that's happened... the very least I can do is keep that 'light' safe... just wait a bit longer..."

Haragi ignored the stares he gained from his small aggression and started to leave the area. It was then he heard a unrecognizable voice behind him.

"What are you doing here?"

He turned his head to see a curious-driven girl with waist long brown hair. She wore a Tokiwadai uniform which meant that she was a student of the school. But this didn't explain why she had approached him while others avoided him. She gave off the expression that she had been reacquainted with someone she had met before  His suspicions rose, asking himself relevant questions and coming up with countless possibilities of who she might have been. But in the end, Haragi narrowed his questioned eyes simply to ask,

"I'm just looking for someone... why do you ask?...."
