It's been long known to those involved in the shadowy depths of the Dark Side of the Academy City that the only way to rid oneself of it's influence was to rid oneself of their own existence. Because of the isolation that is Academy City, leaving it was effectively equal to erasing their existence.

This was the attempt of one man to do just that.

Deep in the dimly-lit labyrinth of underground passageways that made up District 22's logistics systems stood a 185cm tall man dressed in dark mundane clothes. Accompanying him were two of his hired hands, which he had spared no expense in obtaining so that he could pull this off successfully. Along with him he carried what seemed to be a rather flat bulletproof briefcase.

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Y7JGcrWm

Walking down what seemed to be a regular smoothened walkway for vehicular activities, the group suddenly halted and turned to face the wall. Pulling out a remote control device, he pressed the button, causing a section of the wall to lift vertically just long enough for them to get themselves through before closing behind them.

Turning around to face his bodyguards, he spoke to them for the second time. His face was quite intimidating, but the truth of the matter was that he was the one scurrying to get out. What kind of profits did this man make that getting out of the Academy City would give him a better life than inside it, where civilisation is 20 years more advanced than the outside? Who knows, but if the payment he made to the bodyguards were any indication, it was enough for the rest of his life.

That was, of course, assuming he could get out of this ordeal with his life intact.

"From now on, the path is going to get quite complicated with many intersections. If they find us, it's most likely along this path. Stay on your guard."

The distance between them and the outer perimeter of Academy City was approximately 1 kilometer (taking into account they weren't moving in a straight line). Despite District 22 being very small on the map, it was much, much larger underground. If one also factored in the pathways used for the delivery of goods to the lower levels, then one could say that District 22 would almost be as large as District 2. If one of them were to pull out a strong enough GPS now and cross-referenced a map of the Academy City, they were probably somewhere near the middle of District 10.

Even if they have not encoutered anything until now, the Dark Side was not so forgiving as to let such a man go free.
Let the hunt begin.

"From now on, the path is going to get quite complicated with many intersections. If they find us, it's most likely along this path. Stay on your guard."

It was obvious and the bad feeling she had wasn't because her employer tried to act confident. Where she clearly knew he wasn't confident at all  in his current predicament. Rin sighed since she knew the price paid for her services was so much that it clearly sung the trouble this guy was in. She accepted it cause though, since there was a lot of things she needed to buy and of course personal things.

"Throwing knives check, combat knives... socks..." Rin said casually to herself as she actually checked for her socks. She wasn't at all impressed with her target and honestly didn't care about his existence. He obviously did something bad and now she is being paid to protect him from the people want want revenge. Not really her business unless she gets paid and the fact she had means she will promise her protection to him until the mission is complete.

And not a second more.

Rin looked around with a focused motivation after acknowledging the existence of her socks to see familiar surroundings. She has had a lot of experience of working in this distract and for good reason. Because despite being rather small it could get rather complicated and rather easy to hide. Even if they was ambushed here, Rin knew almost all the short cuts and hide aways it wasn't really funny that this could be an easy job for so much money as well.

Well who cares...

"Come on then Papa"  Rin said with clear cheek towards Tougane Masaru, who knew he wasn't related to her in any shape or form that her words was basically a tease. "We haven't got all day." Rin said who stepped just ahead of her employer while patting him on the shoulder. "Now then let us do the guarding, while you just lead the way and we'll deal with any pests if they decided to pop up.." Rin said who suddenly had a cold expression in her eyes.

It was one of those Junes when it seemed that the summer would never end, its blazing heat still went on like every day in the past week. A song on the radio and golden dawn of the day woke a wasted man up from the driver seat with its late bright light shining onto the road on the hill in the very same district that he lived in.

He looked like a mess as he has been one, hangover from heavily drinking to stay numbed a night before. His appearance would cause some hassles if any law enforcer saw him with an exposed shoulder holster over his a few-button-undone dress shirt which should always be kept hidden under a jacket and a few bottles of vodka lying around in the car. He got up and out of the car to stretch arms and legs for ridding of the sores. He took his moment to notice the beauty of the city down below as he was on the hillside, it looked bright and shining. Yes, its dark sides lied in those dark and obstructed alleys, underneath the ground or behind the façades. It was a luxury that he could not see the decadence and vice of this dreamland with a brief eyeing, it takes much more than that to reveal its unwelcoming parts. Before succumbing to self-indulgence and idealistic whims, he started to tidy up his car before leaving for his residence.

Upon arrival, he threw away his badly-needed-to-be-pressed clothes over the couch as he waltzed into the bath. It took several minutes in an attempt to rid of beyond-unbearable look. He finally chose to have his rough, but not too thick beard that he left it on his face for at least a month shaven, suggesting that he had to conduct some kind of a business today. He casually strutted around half-dressed until a text notification alerted him.

“You are request at once, at the export in an hour and half. Brief at the office”

He looked carefully round the room to see if anything had been forgotten and slipped his single-breasted suit-jacket over his shirt after putting on a shoulder holster. He felt cool and comfortable enough for summer. He admired his appearance in front of a stand mirror, he was dressed in: a dark-blue Prince of Wales check with a light-blue overcheck 2 piece 3-roll-2 button front suit that was made from lightweight wool, of course a light tone shirt (he could not afford to look like a silly villain by wearing a dark shirt with a dark suit, even worse with a dark tie that matches!) which in this case, it was off-white in oxford spread collar and a medium-wide navy silk grenadine tie, he tied it in four-in-hand knot. Anyone should be mistrusted for tying his tie with a Windsor knot. It showed too much vanity. It was often the mark of a cad. For footwear he wore a pair of black close-laced brogues since something lighter than black would seem too casual. His overall appearance was well, the cut coordinated with his build, he neither looked too stodgy nor too fashionable with medium-high rise trousers and a low button stance jacket. He carefully put a presidential-fold white linen pocket square in his breast pocket of the jacket. He did not bother with a belt as the trousers did not need one. He verified in the mirror again that there was absolutely no sign of the small and flat hammer-fired Walther that he always carried under his left arm, made a dimple on his tie, strapped a pocket knife on his ankle, walked out of the door and locked it.

After 30 minute drive, he arrived at a normal looking building, it was the location of “the export”. Hence the name, export was only a façade of the company for managing operatives and its resource, some of the Academy City’s operatives are managed through this company, including a few selected agents of Hound Dog. Tampering with evidences that go up on the system of Anti-Skill, acting as a middle man for contracts, providing additional or necessary equipment and manpower for operations and a lot more that the export does.

He reached the floor that located the office he was appointed to. The office had another soundproof room built inside, the front was for a secretary. The secretary needed to check his card before letting him in. The office was furnished with subtle-looking lacquered wood furniture and floor, it looked rich and its atmosphere contrasted the outside which were plainly decorated. It was not the room or its atmosphere that caught his attention, behind the sumptuous desk stood a man in a dark navy pinstripe double-breasted suit, not looking like any bureaucrat or gangster, that man looked sharp, serious and not rakish, especially that the tie knot was not ostentatious and obnoxious. He was still in shape despite of his age which should be around mid 40s or more, his presence and demeanor hinted that he served in the military. The deduction was cut off by the man’s voice.

“Morning. Please sit down” said the man in double-breasted suit coldly. Both pulled their trousers up a bit to ease the stress before sitting down and adjusted the shirt’s cuffs.  The man in double-breasted suit lit up a cigarette and continued You were designated ‘Hound 3’ before you were suspended, right? What may I call you-“

“Tougane, Tougane Masaru, sir. I was informed that my holiday is about to be over” he replied decisively as he looked into the man’s eyes.

“Yes, it is. I doubt their decision after what happened in Mexico City in your last OP, they could have you retired in one way or another but they reinstated you.....” the man’s voice became more sarcastic, or at least Tougane thought so. “You are no longer affiliated to Hound Dog, you operate individually from now on, no longer up to any specific command from each of the boards like you were sometimes in the past. You work on contracts, we will notify you each of them after we deal with the clients.”

Tougane decided to remain silent with what happened in Mexico and proceed on about his new status “What is the assignment?”

The man tilted his head a bit after hearing that Tougane wanted to get on with the heart’s content. “I hope you are familiar with protective details, that’s what I thought when I read the dossier. This time, the client tripped on something and now many people want him dead. He wants to make it out alive today to Kanagawa prefecture via a smuggling route in District 22. You are to escort him. Take the file from the secretary. We let him know about you already, so don’t worry. You will be further briefed and meeting a colleague on site. The cut will be wired through your account as an employee here as always”

“I wonder when I will be hired for something more constructive, it’s always either protective or destructive” Tougane’s tone suggested boredom about the nature of his work. “Do I still have an access to the arsenal?”

“Yes, you can receive it, we had it readied in a bag for you on 2nd floor. We are done here, you may go. Oh- and please make it back alive, we will be needing you a lot often from now on” the man smiled after saying, his smile went against his eyes that looked blank and his earlier demeanor.

Tougane sitting in the driving seat, having picked up the bag, looking disappointed after he opened it and found out the gears were just some part of riot loadout gear, a couple of firearms and its cartridges, it may stand a chance against a group or 2 of combatants, but barely for dark side espers whom naturally show up at this kind of party.

District 22, Academy City

After having met the client and his new colleague, a man in a dark blue Prince of Wales Check suit wiped his sweat as soon as made it pass the hidden door. He looked just like any salaryman, accompanying with the man in a dark shirt and a dark suit he looked like a mafia’s accountant, counting the young-looking high school girl they looked like they were about to do some nasty business, the kind that happens often in every dark corner of Academy City.

"From now on, the path is going to get quite complicated with many intersections. If they find us, it's most likely along this path. Stay on your guard."

It was better not to know what the client did before and to be in the state that he was in now, if too much to handle for Tougane, he might put a slug in the man’s head himself. When the bullets started flying, the client may get panic, so it would be his job to stick close to him. The girl seemed to be hired because of her ability which Tougane has not known about it yet, she looked like she was the type that would leave the formation when the chaos arises to deal with the source.

Hidden from any bystander, he let go and unpacked his duffle bag that he has been carrying earlier, in there lay some firepower which were 2 H&K VP9 9mm handguns, a Sig Sauer MPX-K submachine gun and a sawed-off H&K169 grenade launcher, and 2 bulletproof vests for protection, they were equipment stolen from Anti-Skill barrack. He went from “dress to impress” to “dress to kill” hastily by tucking one of the pistol in his waistband, putting on the vest that had a sidearm holster, straps for 6 primary magazines, 4 sidearm magazines and 4 grenade canisters and rounds which were: 2 smoke, 1 flash and 1 tear gas, and slings of his armaments, the submachine gun aside and the grenade launcher across . He threw a plain bulletproof vest at Tsukasa’s feet, it had extended guard to the crotch and on each side of the neck except the front.

“That will do more than your grandmother’s charm. The girl bears her bra, and you should bear yours”
he said to the client as he still fumbled over his equipment a bit. His profession was probably the only one that allowed him to talk to the client like this, besides from S&M things that usually comes with disdain encouragements, he would not know anything other than that.

"Come on then Papa..... We haven't got all day."

In a pack of brats, there is always the guy who stalls the group by keeping having to tie his shoe laces, Tougane was now that guy as he was called out by the young girl named Oda Rin as he was "dressing up" while she already went ahead both men, this almost felt like when your girlfriend tells you to hurry up to the next attraction in an amusement park after each play at one of them, only just the attractions were not so attracting, there was a third wheel and Tougane would not get any chance to hold any hand with the girl, on the other hand with the client ….. Well, he could stay down and pretend to tie his shoes a little longer so that he could appreciate the beautiful, slim legs while it lasted.

"Now then let us do the guarding, while you just lead the way and we'll deal with any pests if they decided to pop up."

Silence after her words marked the beginning of one of those longest days in his life ..... again ......

In a shady parking lot on the first underground level of District 22 stood a large camper van. Even if that kind of vehicle was already rare sight a within Academy City’s walls, this one was even more out of place. While the appeal was simply that of an ordinary camper, the materials used or building up its exterior were the same as for a heavy tanks armour, the tinted windows and wheels bulletproof and the interior was protected by an extra layer of specially manufactured armouring you couldn’t estimate when taking a glance from the outside.

Overall this was less the family friendly vehicle you’d take along to vacation on the country side than a moving fortress capable of withstanding a direct hit from a RPG.

The interior was divided into two sections, one being the driver’s cabin, the other the passenger space. Unlike for a normal camper, though the passenger area only consisted of two seat benches. It was dark; the only source of light being a single screen embedded into the wall. There was a group of four girls gathered in front of said screen.
[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Qmrxc97k
«It’s always the same with you! Once something doesn’t fit your tastes you get worked up over it immediately! Just because I said this isn’t an assassination mission you shouldn’t immediately assume that it’s not worthwhile! Well of course it probably isn’t, but you could at least pretend it would be.»

The person speaking was neither of the four girls present, but a voice coming from a speaker installed in that only screen. It was the person always giving the orders to the group referred to as ITEM; a woman; that was all they knew. They had never met and were unlikely to ever do so. From the sound of it however that usually calm and analytical person had been angered by a sharp comment one of them had let loose.

«Ok, back to the topic. Today’s mission is quite an easy one. There is a trouble maker, Tsukasa Katsushige. What he did isn’t that important. Let’s just say he managed to anger the wrong people and now they want you to take care of him.
However due to various circumstances he needs to be retrieved alive and more or less unharmed. Obviously there is still some value in him for the higher ups, be it information or any other use. But that shouldn’t be any of your business.»

Finally one of the girls, Mugino Shizuri, raised her voice.
«Let me guess, he is currently hiding in some kind of secret safe house facility somewhere here in District 22? I heard there is one or the other nuclear shelter hidden in between all the relaxation facilities. That will make it easy then»
She was the oldest among the group and beauty rarely seen, often being compared to a model. Her delicate long tea coloured hair, the expensive lavender coloured dress and lastly that bust that’d put a spell on any first rate pervert added even more to that claim. Not to forget that flaw lacking face you’d imagine on an innocent noble maiden.
And in contrast to it all came that bored manner of speech, sounding like the only true source of entertainment would be found in dire bloodshed.

«It’s always the same with you, you never wait for me to finish talking!»

With the voice pausing for short moment a few images, most likely various maps of the different underground levels of District 22, began showing on the screen that had so far only shown the words “sound only”.

«Right now Tsukasa Katsuhige is attempting to flee from Academy City by making use of an old smuggling route that had once been used for illegal transports between Academy City and the outside world. While it hasn’t been in use for a long while, it still seems like there was still an option the city overlooked after taking it down remaining. Unfortunately we weren’t able to pinpoint the exact route he is planning to take.»

Afterwards silence feel, as if to invite question or impulses from the other members.

Post  Kira Kohaku Fri Jul 24, 2015 4:45 am

Meanwhile, in the camper van, another girl sat opposite to Mugino and listened in a somewhat patient manner to the instructions that had been given by the middleman through the speaker.

A navy blue beret tracked along the air as the head underneath the blond hair it was sitting on tilted to the side. The girl wearing this beret was wearing a matching colored sailor top, white-pleated skirt, stockings, and black pumps.

As she sat, she took in the details of the mission ITEM was being assigned. There were many strange points to this mission. For one, they were being requested to take the target in alive. That meant that there were quite a few restrictions on Frenda seeing as her specialty was explosives.

"In the end, I have to be careful about how I use my explosives, then." Frenda sighed. She did not like that she had to restrict herself and she sure as hell did not like that she would not have the opportunity to take another life lest she get her pay docked.

Even so, there were still a few questions that needed to be asked about the target himself as well as necessary information pertaining to her ability to set up bombs. "Does the target seem to have any power that we should worry about? Also, will there be time for me to set up explosives in the target areas?"

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Mugino Shizuri Fri Jul 24, 2015 8:54 pm

«Tsukasa Katsuhige is nothing but an ordinary businessman. It’s always the same with that kind, however. The only ability those people have is their richly filled bank accounts. So obviously that man took care of doing some investments in advance.»

Perfectly timed with her calm speech the images on the screen changed yet again, now presenting a number of documents containing a lot of coded speech made up from numbers and letters. If one invested a closer look it’d be quite easy to figure out that said documents were the kind you’d find on a bank’s server.

«We were already able to gain some insight on Tsukasa’s money transactions. As you can see he has moved vast amounts of money to various dummy accounts probably used by private companies that did rather well at covering up their own traces.
From the looks of it at least two or three of those accounts are linked to private mercenary companies. Therefore it is fair to assume that he has put up quite a formidable group of body guards around himself. Looking at how recent those transactions were done, however, it could also be assumed that he overpaid in one or the other case. It’s always the same with that kind; expecting the price to be an indicator of quality.»

Again the information displayed on the screen changed, back to the in depth information on District 22’s layout.

«As I explained before, the current path Tsukasa Katsuhige and his group are planning to take is unknown to us. All we were able to gather from the data we were able to obtain through security cameras, his mails and eye witnesses is the fact that he is currently at an unknown location within District 22.
Therefore there is no saying if you will be able to prepare traps in advance, unless it should somehow be possible for us to predict the target’s movements. But to achieve this it is of obvious importance to figure out their current position. It’s always the same with this kind of rushed mission, you should be aware of that by now.»

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Kinuhata Saiai Sat Jul 25, 2015 6:42 am

Frenda, the explosive blonde as Saiai sometimes thought of her, questioned the actual strength and influence the target had in his arsenal. As expected, he was formidably wealthy and bought specially trained body guards. Though simple mercenaries were no problem for item, this still felt like a cake walk to the short aired brunette, as she leaned quietly against the back of her seat, putting her arms behind her head to relax.

The real problem was where his location is, or at least where he'll be going. Walking around blindly is the worst thing they can, do and even ITEM can't just walk out there with nothing to go on, they'll look bad and it'll sully their reputation and success rate. Saiai didn't want to be dragged into a mission they can't complete, because the employer is too incompetent to give them reliable information. It'll not only dishearten the group but might make Mugino go on a rage.

"It would be super helpful to have a map, highlighting the area with little to no surveillance. If they were going to flee the city, it would be somewhere discrete." Saiai began, since walking around in public with who knows how many body guards isn't discrete at all and would be a dead give away. "How big is this super old smuggling route exactly? Does it branch out into an entire network?" If it was an entire smuggling network within the district, it may be within the sewer systems going along the streets. They may avoid the sigh of public eyes and high surveillance.

"But taking him back alive...That'll be super troublesome." With Mugino she's an extremely destructive force, so they may not be able to afford to use her powers if the target is present at the time, or at least not freely, and that also means they can't use many explosives. They'd have to secure him by hand without hurting him. "What do you think, Mugino?"

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Mugino Shizuri Sun Jul 26, 2015 9:34 pm

«Actually we do have more than just data on places lacking surveillance.»

Again, corresponding to her speech the images changed. This time it wasn’t a complete change, but rather the same kind of maps as before. Unlike before however said maps featured three strangely twisted lines of red standing out among the complicated network of light blue.

«Taking into account blind spots in the surveillance as well as the data on the smuggling routes Academy City has shut down in the past and checking for the basic requirements for such a smuggling route we were able to determine three possible options, all of which are maintenance shafts that are barely under use nowadays.»

So what that woman on the connection’s other end was saying was that they had been able to narrow down an ocean of possibilities to only three small puddles. Small, yet still far from an ideal answer.

«It seems that all three of those routes meet their ends at storm drains outside the city’s walls. Usually those would be equipped with various sensors to prevent people from secretly sneaking in, but it seems there has been a slight unreported malfunction in case of all three. It’s always the same with this corrupt city…»

With the woman on the phone having given the requested information, silence took over once more. There could have been a lot going on on the other end, but it wasn’t like the members had a means of finding out any of that. Hell it could be that that woman was currently spending a few nice hours at a massage salon or in a Wild West saloon themed bar.

"But taking him back alive...That'll be super troublesome. What do you think, Mugino?"

Still not lacking the obvious signs of boredom all that Mugino did was change the position of her crossed legs, replacing the currently dominating right one with her left. «It shouldn’t be much of an issue. Even if our mission isn’t to kill him, that Tsukasa is likely to be cautious enough to have ensured numerous means that’d pose as a life insurance. Bastards of that kind have a ridiculous obsession with protecting their all too precious lives.»

There wasn’t much of a reason to speak positively about the higher ups. Everyone in the group was likely aware in what kind of world those assholes lived in. Pity, affection, even respect, all those didn’t fit there. Anyone holding the rank of a VIP was nothing but a self obsessed bag of trash; even if they weren’t before, power and the Darkness were sure fire corruption.

«Basically we shouldn’t worry too much about hurting the target. They probably have a shit ton of means to protect their own ass. It’s not like we’re required to go all out anyway.»

Clicking her tongue in annoyance, she once again enforced her own position on the matter. So far ITEM had gone through a long reel of missions, filled with situations that’d make even the most elite special forces soldier shit their pants just from listening in to the briefing. Compared to that kind, this one right now sounded like filler inserted to shorten the time to the next big thing.

«Can’t we simply blow away all three possible routes to force them into a surveillanced area where we’d be able to simply drive them into a corner quick and easy? Maybe drowning in all that despair will force them to bring up proper fight before we crush them

Those final words, harbinger of something…grinding.

June 23rd, 14:21

A tall well-built man was standing on a rooftop looking ahead. However, he wasn't contemplating the beauty of the horizon or anything romantic like that. He was in a hunt, and he was looking for his prey.

He was wearing his long black coat and his black hat as usual. Seeing him from afar really gave the image of a crow, just as his name in the dark side suggested. However, he wasn't known as the "Black Crow" for only his looks. His agility and the way he's always in the air made him really look like a crow flying in the sky.

Right now, he was indeed jumping around from rooftop to rooftop, with a pair of binoculars to scout and search for some runaways.

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) ErsDCgU

He was currently on a hotel's rooftop in District 22's underground. More precisely, it was an abandoned hotel in an old smuggling route. According to Kihara, this route has been used in the past for illegal activities and transports. But it was completely deserted right now. He had been informed that some little rats were trying to escape using the tunnels nearby. He and his teammate were currently heading towards the entrance of said tunnels. then why was he searching for the runaways here, you ask? Well, there was the possibility that those runaways were still on their way to the tunnels too. So to be sure they don't miss their targets because of negligence, Yasuo was keeping an eye on his surroundings just in case.

Appearently, a certain man, Tsukasa Katsushige, has messed around with the wrong people. Kihara Kisue, who was Yasuo's boss, had contacted him earlier today and ordered him to assassinate that man. She didn't explain what she had against him, but, knowing her, he guessed she just saw him as "a nuisance who serves no purpose" as usual and so decided to send her loyal agent to get rid of him. However, he needn't know her reasons, he would obey her orders and fullfill his mission without questioning anything. He was a person who didn't trust humans. She was the only exception -though he didn't know if she could really be considered "human". She was the only person who understood his passion, who allowed him to use his beloved guns freely.

Yasuo could see his teammate from the corner of the eye. He was a somewhat tall man for an average Japanese person. However, he was shorter than him. His body build wasn't as perfect as his either. He also doubted his skills could be as good as his.

'No matter how much practice and commitment he might have put into his job, no matter how much of a professional assassin he was, he couldn't possibly surpass me, the person chosen by the gods to be their messenger!', he thought to himself, his arrogance and pride surfacing again at the sight of a possible rival.

However, he didn't look down on him. From what he could see the man seemed to treat his guns well. He respected people like that. Guns weren't just tools after all, they were gods. People need to treat them with all due respect and love.

Thanks to the discussion they had earlier before starting the mission, he got somewhat a good gasp on the combat style of that man, Tsukino Arata. He was a sniper. To be honest, the "Crow" was impressed by the arsenal the man had. He didn't think it was possible for a "commoner" to have such refined taste in weapons. Well, it wsn't as good as his own choice of guns, but he thought this guy would be a strong ally in the incoming fight.

After some time without any sign of movement detected, Yasuo finally concluded the runaways weren't in this region.

"Hey. There's nothing here.", he said in an annoyed voice as he jumped easily off the rooftop like a bird of prey.

They had only one destination now, the one place they didn't scout yet: The tunnels.

However, it was the most complicated of all.

Unlike the others who seemed more full of like, the highschooler with tired eyes along with shoulder length black hair and sporting a pink tracksuit had been sitting there without saying a word throughout. And her expression seemed to make out she wasn't even listening, but she had listened throughout the entire briefing knowing very well of what is going on. Within this cramped space at the back of the van she was often the one who didn't say much and that hadn't changed whatsoever even right now.

"We can't kill the target... hired help... unknown... she had thought going over what she heard and she only stared blankly towards the others as the discussed the situation.

"But taking him back alive...That'll be super troublesome. What do you think, Mugino?" Kinuhata had said as the look on Mugino still seemed somewhat bored. «It shouldn’t be much of an issue. Even if our mission isn’t to kill him, that Tsukasa is likely to be cautious enough to have ensured numerous means that’d pose as a life insurance. Bastards of that kind have a ridiculous obsession with protecting their all too precious lives. Basically we shouldn’t worry too much about hurting the target. They probably have a shit ton of means to protect their own ass. It’s not like we’re required to go all out anyway. Can’t we simply blow away all three possible routes to force them into a surveillanced area where we’d be able to simply drive them into a corner quick and easy? Maybe drowning in all that despair will force them to bring up proper fight before we crush them Takitsubo's emotionless expression hadn't changed much when she look towards the screen where the voice was coming from.

"I think we should be careful we don't announce our goal with action. Since it will be much harder to achieve them if they know we can't kill our target. So we should take this carefully.." Takitsubo said plainly as some sort of nudge towards the others thinking this was key of achieving their objective much more effectively.

Frenda lightly kicked her legs back and forth, alternating over a short oscillation, as she listened to the deliberation. Her face dropped to a frown when the middleman had dropped the bomb that she may not be able to set up explosives in time due to the lack of knowledge about where the target would end up going.

Luckily for Frenda, it seemed Kinuhata's question had helped them narrow down possible escape routes to three. That was definitely a better prognosis for the situation. At least with this, they had a way to evenly split between the paths between the three combatants of ITEM. But all may not go so smoothly as Mugino responded to one of Kinuhata's questions.

"But taking him back alive...That'll be super troublesome. What do you think, Mugino?"

"Geh!" Frenda's mouth dropped a bit as an expression of surprise and panic washed over her face. What Mugino was saying was not ideal…for Frenda. There were so many problems with what Mugino was proposing. Frenda may have been the type to idolize Mugino, but even she could see when Mugino was being too…well, too Mugino-like.

Luckily for her, another voice descended upon Frenda like an angel. "I think we should be careful we don't announce our goal with action. Since it will be much harder to achieve them if they know we can't kill our target. So we should take this carefully.."

THANK YOU, TAKITSUBO! The girl shouted internally. Takitsubo was like a voice of reason for the group…well, relatively at least.

"In the end, it's better that we split the group so that we have one of us wait in each path." Frenda posited. This was the path that was more beneficial given the information.  "We can make it so that if the target runs into one of us, one can call the others for a pincer attack."

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Mugino Shizuri Sat Aug 01, 2015 11:44 am

Listening to both Takitsubo, the voice of reason, and Frenda, the one that was the first to suggest a proper plan, Mugino’s expression remained unchanged. Slight disappointment due to her fun being taken away was unavoidable, especially with a mission of that great simplicity.

However in the end Mugino Shizuri was still a professional.

«Fine, let’s go with that. Even if one of us shouldn’t be able to hold their ground against those body guards, once we flank them cornering them will be no problem and they would be brought down easily. Good job, both of you.» For Mugino, to praise someone was something special; not in a sense that’d mean for her to jump over her own shadow, but because it was a sign of respect towards the worth another person’s abilities or actions had for the complete picture.
That was Mugino’s way of showing how highly she regarded those comrades close to her.

And of course someone that’d contribute would be given some sort of reward. «Let’s split the targets: Taktsubo and I will head for route A, Kinuhata will take route C and Frenda will get route B in the centre. Any objections?»
It was a fairly simple scheme: With three routes there would be one that would somewhat be the centre in between the other two. While the centre route usually held the same probability for being used it would also be the one that’d allow travelling towards the other two the quickest in case the target would appear there. Additionally to that the one in the centre would also get the advantage of quicker reinforcements from the other two in case they wouldn’t be capable of holding out against the enemy. So overall it was the best for one who wished to get some quick action and the safest for those that would end up in a pinch.

Mustering an unusual smile, Mugino rose from her seat. «Now then, time to head out. We can’t afford to lose any more time. We should act as long as we have the advantage.»

As she turned towards the door, she once again took the lead.

«It’s always the same with you, you always leave without waiting for any good luck blessings! Well you probably won’t need it, but still, you people are my underlings, so you should at least show some respect! Ah well, whatever, just capture that Tsukasa and contact me once you have; I’ll then give you the drop off location.
How it is done and whatever happens in the process isn’t any of my business.»

That unusual smile intensified.

14:22

With the connection cutting and the door being opened, ITEM would finally move out. The mission commenced!

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Himegami Aisa Wed Aug 05, 2015 10:32 pm

Sometimes, there is simply nothing else to do but run. Even if you know all too well that you can never escape, just the knowledge that freedom exists is enough to spur you onward. If you can see the sky beyond the wall theat hems you in, a light at the end of a tunnel, or civilation at the edge of the territory of the beasts, then hope will be born and a desire to escape will follow shortly. What they do thereafter is a given. They devote all of their wealth, strength, knowledge, and influence to their escape. Like a rat backed into a corner, they will attempt to tear out the eyes of their captor and flee. Those people cannot be dealth with in a normal manner. If you send a squad, they will be evaded. If you send someone with strength, they will be blinded. If you send someone with influence, they will be spat at.

But even those troublesome existences have a weakness. A common flaw.

No matter how strong they are, how much intelligence they have, how much wealth and influence they have amassed, if a bullet penetrates their skull and turns their grey matter to mush, they will die. The cornered rat can bite the cat, evade the traps, and run from man, but a bullet sent from the roof of some building several kilometers away precisely when their guard is at its lowest is impossible to evade. That was what he, Tsukino Arata, did for a living. He was hired to put down the rats that could not be dealt with through normal means. With his sniper rifle in hand, he located his target, found a convenient place to shoot from, and put a bullet in their skull from a distance far enough away that retaliation was impossible.

Today's job was the same. A rat, scurrying away to its hidey-hole. He had been hired to find it and put a bullet through its skull before it got away. It had apparently hired out some muscle to help it survive, but unless they could guard every inch of the rat's body 24/7, that didn't matter to him. He'd find his target, put a bullet through its skull, and leave before the muscle could figure out where he'd shot from. If anything was different about today's job, it'd be the fact that he had a partner. It wasn't that he preferred to work alone or anything like that. In this business, a mindset like that'll get you killed in no time flat. Rather, it was simply that the jobs he took typically didn't require any more than him. He alone could locate his targets, kill them, and escape without any help. The fact that he had a partner could mean only one thing: whoever hired him didn't think he'd be able to finish the job alone.

As they ran between the rooftops, he glanced over at his partner. Younger than he was, not by much. Wearing all black. Cool expression, a decent poker face. Tsukino had caught him glancing his way earlier, judging, analyzing. At the very least, that stoic expression of his didn't serve solely to cover up his idiocy.

"Hey. There's nothing here. Let's go scout somewhere else."

"Got it."

A short concise response was all that was needed. They weren't here to make conversation, after all. They'd ascertained each other's basic skill sets earlier, so all they needed to do now was hunt. They'd hunt down their prey, and while his partner went up close, he'd leave the scene and set up his rifle. If the rat and its muscle fell to his partner, fine. But if they didn't, then he'd at least serve as a good distraction. The element of surprise was always on his side, but his prey's distraction could only serve to compound his advantage.

Without a word more, he continued forward, scanning the alleyways for any sign of life.

Rolled some dice to see who gets to see each other
Runaway Group meets Frenda
Mugino/Rikou meets Yasuo
Saiai meets Arata
Send all complaints to my die and RNGsus

Seeing the vest thrown to his feet, the man lifted his shirt to reveal that he had already been wearing his own protection. It wasn't a question of "who the hell did he think Katsushige was?", but rather "what the hell did you expect in this context?".

The Dark Side of Academy City had all sorts of everything lurking in it's shadows. If he knew assassins would be coming for his ass, surely he'd take more precautions then just hiring two fancy bodyguards; a pinpoint attack even with them around was a perfectly real threat. Still, he opened his suitcase (which appeared to be deceptively empty, perhaps it had multiple compartments?) and stuffed the vest inside.

Without further ado, he took Rin's lead as a reminder and began walking again at a brisk pace.

June 23 14:54

As they continued through the dimly-lit shafts, one thing was made clear: the two guards would have gotten lost without his silent guidance. The turns were seemingly random and each connecting shaft and intersection were angled so oddly one would be scratching their head on how it was constructed (naturally, it was all calculated by a computer). Dim, sleazy lighting was a constant and the only "decorations" apart from concretes or metals were pipes along the walls. It was incredibly dull and boring.

But that changed when Katsushige's ears seemed to pick up something and dashed towards the nearest, darkest wall, pressing his back against it. His expression did not appear to change in the slightest, but he strained his ears to check that his listening was not betraying him.

Sure enough, if one listened carefully, the light sound of approaching footsteps could be heard.

Jan 07

Ginza, Tokyo

A young man on a wheelchair admired the view of the city from the balcony of recreation zone for patients, the view outside was magnificent, it has always been one of his favorite things, he would always love any sunny day that was not too hot. It was fairly cold today that he needed to wear his own personal lined burgundy silk dressing gown over his blue patient’s outfit. He came here to get some fresh air after a lot of check-ups this morning. He has been sitting there at least an hour with a carton of cigarettes in his only usable hand that was not restricted by the splint and strap, the left one. Oh the irony, there was a vending machine for cigarettes just a floor below, even he could not press the damn button to get one for himself, some nurse was kind enough to get it for him. He was not sure if he should be glad that she did not care to lecture him about his health. He lit another one with a cheap and borrowed lighter from someone around here just now after he tried to hold back the urge that got him to smoke the first one.

“If you want to die that much why don’t you let yourself bleed out to death when you were- uhm, whatever you have just been through. I doubt if this was just an accident from skiing in some such places like Sapporo or Otaru” a female voice came from behind, it was familiar that he thought it could be from someone he already knew. Tougane would say that this was the stupidest idea of how to engage a conversation to a stranger, but this kind stays around with him longer than anyone would do somehow.

He turned his head to see what the person looked like, his blurred vision was not able to capture her face clearly, resulted from one of his injuries. She dressed attractively in: a sleeveless roll neck jumper, his neck was too stiff to get the sight of what she wore to cover her long skinny legs. She played with her shoulder-length blonde hair with her right hand while she used her left arm to hug over her chest, holding an appropriate-size pair of breasts slightly tight. In her mouth she held something that had a size of a cigar, but it could be just a pen that was used to mock him since there was no smoke or smell. The lack of her coat made him doubt how she was able to withstand the cold breezes with almost every limb exposed to the air. “Are you looking for something?” she interrupted his gazing. He saw enough and the neck could only provide him that much, so he turned back before answering.

“No, just looking” he continued to prevent her from realizing what he really meant “I’d admit that I rarely do something that is not considered a filthy habit.”

“Does it mean that broken arm and broken leg and a head wrapped around by thick bandages were the outcome of your filthy habit? This is more of nasty habit of living.”

“You know what they say about the fittest.”

“Sounds like it’s an triumph to you. Unfortunately your partner, girlfriend and a few friends can’t really say the same. Maybe a few more people that I am not capable of recalling their names, oh, don’t forget that kid too.”

The table turned suddenly, he was enjoying it earlier and now suffering a sharp pain. Tougane could feel a pressure that was straining on his forehead and eyes, it felt like they were going to burst out, he was ashamed of the fact she mentioned. He wanted to turn back and demand some answers, but it was too embarrassing to let anyone see his face right now. He took deep breaths to calm his nerve before turning back to face her. She already went somewhere, she did not stay to see her craft. He exhaled jerkily and put out the cigarette.

“Mr Tougane, seems that you have finished the call, shall I take you to the doctor’s room now?” a lovely nurse approached him once he was available, she quickly spotted him as soon as she made it from the long corridor. He would be lying if he said her appearance did not comfort him from the disturbance just a few seconds ago even just a little it did.

“Would you kindly?”

“Certainly, sir.”

Tougane was the kind of person who enjoyed little things and little detail, half of the things on his list would be considered superficial and nonsensical if an average human being saw it. Although that sounded like he was very artistic and sophisticated, he was actually simplistic, minimalist and an admirer of a refined taste in various matters. He did inspect the good things intensely, but even more with the worse things. His eyes concentrated on what was donned by a man whose profession was on the list of professions he least wished to see on any day, second from suicide bombers he placed doctors there. He has seen this man 3 times or less on less worrying appointments, he looked the same as he always looked, a white gown coat over his cream tattlesall shirt and a brown knit tie, in Windsor knot which was one of the thing Tougane despised most. The knot negated how the doctor got his choice of collar and a tie right. He already made a bad face before hearing any diagnosis.

“You rather have an impeccable endurance for a mortal man, Mr Tougane. This is probably our fourth time here and the-whatever-it-is time at the other hospitals” said the doctor whom Tougane need not to remember the name.

Tougane was not really paying attention to what the doctor said, but rather of his presence and tone that displeased him. “Believe me, if the death were willing to embrace me, it would have taken me long ago, I gave it numerous times of chances.”

“Perhaps death is the least of your worries, I’m pretty sure I can add some more for you to worry for a while. You sustained injuries to the left knee, your right shoulder is fractured and a few ribs are broken. Those will take almost a year to heal if you take the therapy seriously or you could apply for the program at the Academy City. But that’s not all, you seemed to suffer a severe concussion to the head, causing an internal bleeding and temporary amnesia, we already ran a few tests on basic and daily life knowledge, seems they will be fine. You have to be kept diagnosing regularly and you may need to see a psychiatrist if there is any psychological symptoms. Your lungs are fine for now, despite the stench I can smell just right now, seems like they had been free from smoking for years after you stopped for the first time. The liver is fine for now, for your age. I don’t need to say that it will get worse if you keep continuing your filthy habits, right?”

“That doesn’t seem worrisome, I was expecting that you found my blood HIV positive, thank god it wasn’t-“

“Oh, grow up! What did you do to get yourself in this state, young man? I knew it wasn’t just an ordinary or freak accident this time. To be precise, it was on the front page of newspaper yesterday” the doctor pulled out the said newspaper and placed it on his desk “You also had experienced a couple times of vehicular accidents, do you always destroy every vehicle you get in or that’s just an excuse you keep making?”

’15 killed and 23 injured in a freak helicopter crash on new year’s eve, investigation ongoing’ - a certain newspaper’s headline

“Standard operating procedure. I hope you understand that it can happen to a man who travels a lot … a sort of licensed troubleshooter.”

Jun 23

District 22, Academy City

“The file said you spent a lot of time down here in this district more than you spent it on going to school …. Are you sure that we’re going in the right direction, missy? Oh, god. It’s just 2 o’clock and I’m already in agony, normally it starts after 7” Tougane must really have lost his mind after going through rat holes, he felt a bit dizzy. If the head of the section had known what Tougane was up to last night, he would have sent the other agent instead. Tougane was worried about the leather soles of his brogues getting too dirty to clean more than he was worried about the client. This place was filled with rats that could easily kill a cat. Well, he might need a little more time to adjust to field work again after having been slacking in a different environment. Tougane would really give a low score and tons of negative comments on online questionnaires and review at this point for this district, he saw enough of things to give him nightmares. He swept his free hand over his vest to check everything was intact, there was something unexpected and nice. His expression was visible that he drastically went from hopeless to energized, if he paid attention to see his colleague who was at least 10 years younger and his client, he may see how disappoint they were at how unprofessional he was and once again realize the use of balaclava.

He took the advantage of staying on the six, to fill up his famished stomach with a recently founded bar and half of CalorieMate inside a pocket on his vest, the last guy who has worn this vest must have probably forgotten to finish it and left it like that, lucky Tougane. He chewed as silently as possible, Tsukasa may pay for this job, but it definitely did not cover this bar and half of energy bar. He definitely was not willing to share it even if Tsukasa asked him to. He got slightly better after consuming the energy bar, after his life energy was drained by slight claustrophobia he had all along the trip; he would be affected more by Thalassophobia and Acrophobia. The fact that he might be tracked at the moment prevented him from smoking, it could be a liability had he done it. So he just had to deal with the urge, the very least he was able to do was just holding one in his mouth without lighting it up.

20 minutes of their journey earlier included of turns and intersections to make it seemed like they were all connected, needless to mention that there was the only way that they could take in that path to reach the destination.  It was a long walk in the afternoon, composing of fatigue and paranoia as they kept themselves wary to the surroundings. Some say the joy happens during the trek, not upon reaching the destination. This certainly was not the case, the sooner they reach, the better it be for them.

They now reached a long straight corridor connected with a few of passages going across creating intersections, however these cutting across passages, again, did not lead to where they needed to go, so they kept moving straight for now. For how these paths were connected to each other in the areas that were unable to see with eyes, Tougane did not know. The other end was not visible, it just looked like a black void. It felt odd to be able to walk straight through after turning there and there like they were in a maze. They used a single line formation prior to this route, now Tougane and Oda held positions as a left and a right wing respectively to clear each corner every time they passed one. Nonetheless the threat chose to appear just ahead instead of those corners. A slow footsteps sound approaching in, it was a few seconds of suspense before a figure emerged from the dark void at the other end…

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

It was relatively cramped in the maintenance shaft Frenda had arrived in. According to the middleman…or middlewoman…this was one of the three maintenance shafts that the target would likely pass through.

The location was only wide enough for two people to pass through despite the height of the ceiling. One could question the design choices the architects and mechanical engineers made in building this location but that was a moot point considering that the location had already been built.

Two lines of light bulbs lined along the ceiling, however, it seemed that only a few of them worked as there was a majority that were completely dead. Compound that with occasional cobwebs on the ceiling and around the dead bulbs and one could see that this shaft had been abandoned for quite a while.

In the darkness, Frenda was pressing something against the wall and then onto the floor. It was a special brand of white tape that would cut through various objects if ignited. She only had enough time to spread two lines. But two lines was enough. The two lines were connected to a single point on the wall so she could easily ignite it in an instant.

It would only be a bluff but the white tape would serve to make the target far more cautious to proceed through the maintenance pathway if they ended up getting past her. Plus, all that mattered was catching the target alive so if he ended up stepping on the tape when it ignited, there would not be much of a problem.

With her free hand, she tapped on a button on her earpiece communicator and spoke. "Basically, I'm in position. I'll let you know if the target appears."

However, she inconspicuously switched off microphone on her earpiece as soon as she finished speaking and emoted a big grin. As if.

Now Frenda Seivelun was a very selfish girl. She knew that she could get a huge cut of the pay if she ended up being the one that finished the job. As such, she needed to know whether the target would end up in the other areas. If the target ended up crossing her path, she sure as hell did not want to let the others know immediately, at least until she may possibly be cornered. If the target got past her, she did not want to lose any possibility of being paid. That was the kind of selfish girl she was.

Now that the contingency bluff was set, she made her way back to a nice stationary location.

Frenda stood with her back against a wall next to a poster that gave some sort of odd voltage warning and a circuit breaker right next to it to her left. To her right, off in the distance, was the entrance that the target would be coming through if they took this path. As the lights were in intermittent locations, she had found another conveniently dark location where all of the closest working light bulbs were quite far away.

Now, all she had to do was wait patiently for her friends to contact her or for the target to unwittingly make his way into the arms of the smiling explosive blonde.

After waiting for three minutes, she finally heard footsteps that were making their way through the pathway. They're here!!

A smug grin broke out on her face as he walked towards the middle of the shaft floor and slowly made her way forward step by step.

At the entrance to the shaft, turning the corner, they appeared. Three silhouettes. "In the end, it seems the target landed right in my lap." The girl muttered as she sassily placed a hand on her hip above her skirt.

Post  Kinuhata Saiai Sun Aug 09, 2015 6:03 pm

Inside the cramped, dark maintenance shafts, Kinuhata Saiai and the rest of ITEM have split in order to cut off their intended target. Regardless which direction they may go, they will be delayed for an extensive time. Sadly, that doesn't mean they're guaranteed the success of their mission, unless perhaps they went toward Mugino. Saiai herself was not confident in herself nor Frenda, not because they weren't skilled, but with the numbers stacked against them and with mercenaries at the target's disposal, these cramped tunnels puts almost everyone at a disadvantage. "This is Kinuhata, I'm at point C. These tunnels were more super narrow than I originally thought.." She spoke into her earpiece to report her current status and position as she thought carefully of what to do

"Basically, I'm in position. I'll let you know if the target appears." She heard Frenda's voice.

"Frenda-san. Be careful with your explosive. It's super likely you can be caught in the blasts of your bombs in these narrow spaces..." Although Frenda was an explosive's expert, she has seen her get carried away a little in the past, and a friendly warning couldn't hurt. However, she didn't get a response from her. "Frenda..?" She tried again, but it seems she was either ignoring her or shut off her mic. She doubted that she was already hurt...so that must mean... "Mugino-san...Frenda-san just went into super greed mode I think...Unable to intervene, it'll ruin the plan.."

However, the tunnels are poorly lit, so Saiai decided taking them by surprise was better than taking them head on. She dug into her satchel she brought along to carry her equipment. She did a quick check to to find she did indeed pack two smoke grenades and a handheld Anti-tank projectile missile. The explosive was more or less a last resort, or for when the odds aren't in her favor, but with the confined spaces, she needs some sort of cover other than the pipes and old machinery inside the shaft.

First Saiai decided to destroy a couple lights in the area, wanting to keep things dark and the visibility on her limited. Breaking every light would be suspicious, but it wouldn't be strange if a couple lights were broken in this unattended maintenance shaft. While doing so, she took the broken glass from the lights and spread them out. With the lights off, she herself was partially blinded, despite having her eyes adjust to the darkness. However, use the sound of someone stepping on glass to locate them, was a simple trick she learned as a hitman before joining ITEM. She's been in situations like this before, and she's learned to use her environment as a result, to take down her targets.

Once she believed the tunnel was dark enough to hide in, she slowly hid herself in the pipes, putting the hood over her head as she sat down behind all the rusty pipes. She needed to keep her energy usage low, just in in case the battle lasted longer than she had hoped. ITEM has no idea what they are really up against so she and other's can't get cocky. "This is Saiai, all signs green. I'm super set up."

They had to go the long way, which was rather a pain but they couldn't risk getting seen by surveillance and that avoided them taking the mid-ranged route. It was bothersome since she had been down here numerous times and she knew the length of time it took. She had chased others, while being chased also before in the past in this area so this sense of feeling. This type of mission wasn't alien to her and she even had assets prepared in case of a long haul. She knew from the distance they traveled that those assets was close by and she was going to make sure to stop off to obtain them.

Communication devices, torches, more knives, ammo for her current partner and even explosives. But most importantly more socks for her to use. All to protect his little childish man in the middle of Tougane who was on the left and herself on the right. They were escorting their charge rather perfectly and for briefly it felt one of those false sheep missions. Where the threat the one who hired them was so worried about was nothing but their imagination and it turns out to be a peaceful job. Rin actually hoped for such an ending, since noisy ones can get so messy and she would rather avoid getting blood stains on her clothes. That can be rather troublesome to get off and normally she would just replace them. Which can be a strain as she needs to give the money she earns for someone who needs it. That is what Rin thought with her cold expression as she attempted to focus on the current job at hand.

"Huh!?" Rin said almost immediately something had sparked her attention as she saw a singular silhouette in the distance. She put her left arm in front of Tsukasa Katsushige to stop him moving forward. "That moment when you overlook something so obviously useful for the type of environment you're going into." Rin said rather casually as her left eye suddenly twitched. But her annoyance of their groups stupidity on that small factor didn't last as her attention was fully locked onto the figure in front of them. She knew that her stash was rather close and to run into somebody now only makes her wonder if this person had found it. Irregardless she can't bring that to attention now and she altered her stance in a way which would make it easy for her to quickly draw and or just throw a knife in a matter of seconds. But that alteration was so minor, it had seemed like she was just standing normally to an untrained eye. But though who have seen her work before would know she was in stance which was capable to fight straight away. "You know it's rather rude to lurk in the darkness without introducing yourself. " Rin said with her cold expression, she doesn't really know how to seem emotional when on a job.  "So don't keep us waiting for too long..

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Mugino Shizuri Mon Aug 10, 2015 6:45 pm

"This is Kinuhata, I'm at point C. These tunnels were more super narrow than I originally thought.."

"Basically, I'm in position. I'll let you know if the target appears."

«We also arrived.»

Point A, B and C were all set. With this the whole of ITEM was in position and ready for the main act.

Mugino Shizuri and Takitsubo Rikou, even though they had chosen the closest of the three points had taken the longest of all three groups, due to Mugino not even bothering to give in to the situation’s tension.

Not that any of that mattered. They had managed to arrive at the target location and that in time, even within that rather complicated underground shaft system. Luckily each of the four members of ITEM had been given an electronic 3D map of the tunnel system they could easily access via their respective phones that’d also allow to see the others’ positions.

Standing there amid the narrow dimply shaft of metal and concrete the group’s leader once again ignored the rules of common sense, not even taking cover or using the tunnel’s shadows much unlike the others. Free of any care in the world that girl simply stood underneath one of the sparsely spread light bulbs, giving out her presence on a silver plate. To her there was no need to care about strategic advantage or safety. It was fair to say that she was actually inviting all kinds of unpredicted trouble, fully convinced that her abilities would allow her to somehow handle. That was the kind of person Academy City’s #4 was.

"Mugino-san...Frenda-san just went into super greed mode I think...Unable to intervene, it'll ruin the plan.."

A long heavy sigh followed.

«…that Frenda…»

Had she encountered the target or was she simply listening in to the others’ conversation to steal information while not sharing any of her own? Whatever it was, at this point such action was hardly a surprise.

Taking another sigh she took a glance into the gloomy sparsely lit distance you’d usually find in any B or C class horror movie nowadays. Usually girls of her age were likely to feel fear or at least a little uncomfortable in that kind of environment, but she was without doubt different.

«How about we give her 10 minutes? If we don’t have any run-ins with the target until then or any word from Frenda, we’ll know where to go.» A smug grin formed on her lips as she began to toy with a flick of hair. «Of course that means someone will become subject to strict punishment», she spoke, well aware of the fact that that blonde was still listening in to their talk. And just for that special audience she had gone ahead to strongly pronounce those final two words threateningly.

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Yamaguchi Hiromi Wed Aug 12, 2015 2:20 am

When they reached the entrance, and as they suspected, there were several paths, three to be more exact.

However, there was a slight problem here...

They were just two people.

In this kind of situation, Yasuo was thankful he wasn't on a mission on his own. Well, it wasn't because he couldn't find them even if he was alone. He did trust his speed. Even if he had to run through the whole three paths to find them, he was pretty sure he would be able to catch up with them. However, he wasn't sure how many bodyguards his target may have hired. It would be troublesome if they dispersed on the three paths and would block his way not allowing him to go to the other points. That's what he wanted to avoid at all costs. Not to mention that there might be other people after the man's throat too. And they wouldn't let him pass either. In this world, even if two parties had the same prey, that doesn't mean they could simply cooperate and trust each other. Leaving your back open to strangers who weren't getting paid by the same boss would get you stabbed in a matter of seconds. There were too many back-stabbers to blindly suggest to work together with those people.

That meant if they ever met, they would be enemies.

"So, what do we do now?", Yasuo asked the sniper.

After a short discussion, they agreed they are each going his separate way.

Obviously...

"I am going to point A. I'm sorry I'm choosing on my own. However, it's not that I didn't think about it. The best option we have, as we are only two, is to go to points A and C. If none of us encountered the runaways, it means they are at point B. And as it is in the middle, it is the closest to both, so that saves us time in that case. So, the choice rests between those two points. But!"

The Black Crow stopped his explanation for a moment, extended his left arm and put his right hand on his hat, looked up and resumed what he was saying:

"As I am the Chosen One, it is only natural for me to choose the point A, number 1 in Alphabetic Order! There is no way I am taking either of the other two third rated paths! I'm sure I will meet the strongest oppenent of all there too! Someone strong would only be content with choosing that path after all!", Yasuo was uttering what could be very likely considered nonesense for anyone other than him.

He then felt Tsukino's mocking gaze. So he stopped his theatrical stance and added:

"We will maintain the communication with each other, so if you find the target contact me, or if you encounter someone, or simply if you face any kind of problem. I'm not looking down on you, I will do the same thing."

With the discussion over, each of them went to his designed point. This was far from being a straight tunnel. It had so many detours that it could be mistaken for a labyrinth. This wasn't something Yasuo would complain about though. On the contrary, he was thankful for this. This shape offered him so many hiding spots where he could blend in with the shadows thanks to his all dark outfit. This was the perfect place for ambush. he was advancing slowly and quitely. As long as he had the surprise factor, he had the upper hand.

As he was advancing, he heard loud footsteps. He stopped in his tracks and hid in a corner.

He eavesdropped but then found out he didn't need to put any effort into it. The person coming was already talking loud enough for any person in the approximity to hear perfectly, specially in a place so tight. Even her footsteps echoed all over the place.

'This woman is out of her mind. Is she so strong that she has no care in the world about the possible enemies awaiting her or is she just that dumb?'

He peeked without moving from his hideout and saw two girls coming his way. One seemed to be in her late teens, the other probably was a high schooler.

'Espers, huh?', he concluded the only possible option. It was not odd to see youngsters in the Darkness in this city, for they were no ordinary kids. They were people whose powers could rival the best assassins, and even wipe out the world's strongest armies in some cases.

He noticed the target wasn't with them.

'So they must be the other people persuing the troublemakers.'

Given the nature of their target, he didn't think it would be very off to assume some higher-up out there sent one of the strongest special groups composed of Espers to get the man. So, Yasuo guessed it was safe to consider the people fighting him are high level espers. And given the attitude that taller girl was having, he couldn't shake the feeling that she was indeed one of those monsters.

'Well, I will just have to act and plan following the assumption that these opponents have a power rivaling an army. This will be challenging...'

He remained hidden silently in his location waiting for the girls to get closer.

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Himegami Aisa Thu Aug 13, 2015 12:41 am

As his partner ran on ahead after his speech, Tsukino spent a moment just staring after him and mulling things over in his head.

If he had to describe his partner in a single word, it would be 'impudent'. Not 'prideful', and not 'arrogant', though those were certainly fitting descriptors for the man, but 'impudent'. He acted as if he was, out of all the people in the world, the most superior, regardless of relative skill, status, or character. To him, he had no superiors, there was no he looked up to, and no one he respected. As a direct result of that worldview, he saw everyone else as inferior to him, as people to be looked down upon. In his mind he had no superiors, or even equals. Even if he were to meet someone who was clearly superior to him in every way, who was stronger than he was, who had more influence than he did, who had a stronger conviction than he did, than he would most likely, with complete disregard of all those basic facts, look down upon them. That was why Tsukino Arata would not describe him as 'prideful', though he was, or 'arrogant', though the word most definitely fit him, but as 'impudent'.

For now, though, he would have to put such thoughts behind him. He had entered the rat's nest, and that thought brought an old saying to his mind: "A cornered rat will bite the cat." Normally that wouldn't be an issue for him, since he brought down his targets without them ever realizing they'd been hunted in the first place, but the stage this time complicated matters. There would likely be no safe place for him to set up his rifle, which was currently dismantled and sitting in a small case on his back, so his normal tactics would not work without some improvisation. On top of that, the tunnels would be cramped, and it'd be all too easy for someone to take out the lights and rob him of his vision. He'd have to prepare for those predictable tactics as much as he could before entering.

He had several means to counter the low-light environment, one of which was to use his fish-eye lenses. Normally he used them to either scout out the enemy or to provide extra accuracy for his sniping by providing multiple viewpoints, but he could also use its electronic vision to compensate for the low lighting. It would be a simple matter to pop one of the lens onto his chest, send the feed to his phone like usual, and use it as a third eye of sorts. He could also use his rifle's scope, but for picking up possibly inorganic traps in the dark, his fish-eye lens would do a superior job. On the other hand, though, if someone had managed to conceal themselves thoroughly enough, then while the fish-eyes lens would fail to pick them up, his scope's thermal imaging would find them.

Both had their pros and cons. No matter which he chose, there was a possibly he might end up wishing he'd chosen the other. A poor decision here could lead to his death. Well aware of those consequences, of the stakes behind his decision here, he made the obvious decision. He would use them both. If not using one of them may lead to his death, then using them both would eliminate their cons and leave only their pros. He would have to travel slowly in order to survey his surroundings using both pieces of equipment, but if that meant he would be able to avoid any traps and have the first move against any rival agents or prey he may encounter, then it'd be worth it. He didn't specialize in speed or power, or even accuracy, but in killing the target with 100% certainty, and using only a single shot.

After spending more time prowling through the tunnels than he suspected his partner would have appreciated, he finally found it. As he stared through his scope from around the corner, he could clearly see a human sized heat signature. If it weren't for his scope, he'd have never seen them until it was too late. There were more broken lights than functional ones in this area, and judging from what he could make out from his fish-eye lens, they seemed to have hidden themselves behind something, since he couldn't see them even when he pointed it straight at the spot where his scope had picked up the heat signature. He couldn't spot any traps from this distance, but since completely concealing oneself came with the cost of one's ability to observe their surroundings, he assumed they had something set up.

There was no longer any need to get closer. Doing so would only bring further risk. He would kill them from here. Slowly, and all but silently, he reassembled his sniper rifle on ground of the tunnel, with it pointing toward the target. He didn't bother setting up the tripod; there was no need for the extra stability at this close a range and he wanted to ensure he could move quickly on the off chance his current prey had reinforcements or somehow survived. When he had finished setting it up, inserted the cartridge of ammunition, and pointed the barrel towards where his scope told him the target stood, he was finished. They seemed to be hiding behind something, but this rifle was meant to accurately pierce through skulls from several klicks away. At this distance, any barriers they put between themselves and him may as well have been nonexistent.

He could see his target through his scope.

He could feel the cold trigger on his index finger.

He fired.

"You know it's rather rude to lurk in the darkness without introducing yourself. So don't keep us waiting for too long.." One of the silhouettes had spoken. She had seemed to be trying to goad her. Well, either that or she really was some sort of stickler for etiquette, which while idiotic, as a part of Academy City's dark underbelly, would not be all to surprising given how varied the agents of said darkness were. Well, it did not matter. Whoever spoke that voice would definitely die. After all, her target was not a female.

Frenda would have smiled were it not for something she heard over the earpiece. «How about we give her 10 minutes? If we don’t have any run-ins with the target until then or any word from Frenda, we’ll know where to go. Of course that means someone will become subject to strict punishment

She gulped and started to feel a cold sweat. They had already figured out that she had cut off her microphone so that she could capture the target on her own and hog…earn the payout for the mission. Mugino was ready to give her a punishment…perhaps a spanking so heavy she would be unable to feel anything beneath the abdomen afterwards.

But she was doing them a service. By cutting of the microphone, she was eliminating the possibility of all of that pesky noise pollution from the explosions annoying the others. After all, explosions are  a pain to be near and a pain to listen to.

In the end, though, excuses did not matter. In the end, all that mattered were results. In the end, what mattered was that she obtain those results before Mugino's imposed time limit.

She had nine minutes. Nine minutes to kill the body guards. Nine minutes to capture the target alive.  As long as she could do that, she was fine. As long as she could keep active for nine minutes, she could call for help before the time limit was up.

The confident blonde grinned. The bodyguard who had spoken was too overconfident. In other words, her opening move would be perfect.

She moved her hand that sat on her hip and swished it over a certain portion of the side of her skirt before covering her face with her beret. With the other hand, she put an earplug into her free ear. In that moment, a cylindrical can with a loose safety lever fell from her skirt, falling slightly forward and hitting the ground.

In the moment that the cylinder hit the ground, a piercing sound and a blinding light emanated through out the tunnel room to the point where the distances between them did not matter.

After all, the stun grenade's purpose was to temporarily blind and deafen and in an abandoned shaft with no obstacles, the effects would reach all. After the counting three seconds for the blast, Frenda immediately charged forward to closed the distance while throwing out the earplug she was using.

Post  Tougane Masaru Sat Aug 15, 2015 11:55 am

"Huh!? You know it's rather rude to lurk in the darkness without introducing yourself." came an irritating sigh and a pointless remark from not too far right.

It was the response to the relatively short figure that emerged from the dark void, revealing that it was silhouette of a girl, but not entirely to make herself fully exposed

(A woman?) he thought as he spitted his unlit custom-made to have more nicotine cigarette into waste and raised his right eyebrow up slightly. His misogyny reflected when he expected a much more suitable and competent type for this kind of job: a man. He did not reckon that most of women were fit to a battlefield, at their best and not taking a fair chance, it was just a sneak strike or a dirty trick that they could pull off. This thought applied to his colleague, but he concluded that it was at least something to have an eye candy in a boring trek.

With no light to clarify her appearance and the color, he could only tell she was clothed in a dark sailor top, a pleated skirt and a dark beret, none of these were combat wear. No signs of weapon outline, which did not really help much since the weapon could be hidden or wired around the place unknowingly or it could be her ability as an esper that was the weapon itself, it is always the best to see than guess. The girl’s appearance suggested she was feminine and young, likely a middle or high schoolgirl, may be out of place elsewhere, but in this city wherein it weaponized a juvenile into a weapon, it was here that you could easily get killed by a said juvenile if you peeked into a wrong corner, even worse when it was a girl who accompanied an innocent look.

Even the danger ahead looked like the kind that nobody would kill, the man who commandeered weapons that only mere mortals utilized, standing not too far from the young girl who apparently became an imminent threat, was not so unused to killing a minor. He had done it a few times, but if he had had a choice, he would not have done so. And today he would do the same as things pointed out that he needed to. He would just rinse the guilt away with bourbon on the rock as always and convinced himself that it was necessary under an expensive silk-cotton blanket tonight.

At right bottom corner of his sight, he noticed that Oda lifting her skirt slowly, it could be tempting if she was not reaching for her throwing knife, that was a sign for him to get ready. He paced backward and closer to Tsukasa, using his body to cover the VIP. The slung submachine gun lay by his right side, it was tightly gripped by the man in a dark blue Prince of Wale check suit. He flicked the safety lever from ‘safety’ to ‘auto’ and moved his index finger from the trigger guard onto the trigger. He was ready to engage.

Just when the front iron sight aligned with the target, a *clink* sound was heard. The object that recently hit the ground when it came out of the shadow exploded. A blast that reached 170 db in closed and tight space disoriented the victims' visual, audibility and stability.

Even he persisted to engage, without hands to block his ears, the piercing noise that destroyed his balance and stability made him flinched and writhed, his vision turned white rendering him blinded, causing the first burst that came after a trigger twitch rather than a trigger squeeze, to go up right and miss the flesh before him, hitting pipes on the wall. He struggled to recover his sense of balance and continued to firing.

Oda suffered the same fate, stuck in a daze with no thought going through for a second before regaining some of her senses back. To avoid the potential line of fire and create a barrier for them, she dashed aside for the nearest wall on her side and plugged the knife into it as soon as she felt the wall to create a barricade, merely an inch-thick and as-high-as-the-shaft wall slid quickly to the another side as if it were an automatic sliding door as a result from her simplest calculation and execution, at this speed anything caught in between might get cut in half.

After 3 more bursts following the first in straight line, he stopped because he felt he was only hitting a wall in front of him with the last burst while his vision was still a white blank.

Tougane and Oda held their guard up as their vision started fading in from blindness, it appeared that …

[SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt) Empty Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Kinuhata Saiai Sun Aug 16, 2015 7:02 pm

Kinuhata Saiai sat in the dark for an allotted ten minutes, waiting for some sort of activity. She remained still, completely silent throughout the entire waiting period. There was no way someone could hear or see her under the conditions she set herself, with the breaking of the lights and the scattered glass. Her eyes adjusted well in the darkness, so even if someone avoided the glass, she'd make out their presence soon enough and ambush them accordingly. However, in this time frame, no activity had occurred which was odd to her. Surely someone would've come by now. But that's when she heard something. Nothing in particular, just...something. The sound of metal parts grinding ever so slightly together, following chink like sounds. They were completely subtle, but even with her person experience with firearms as an assassin, she couldn't pinpoint what the sound actually was.

.... Saiai personally was getting suspicious as she slowly began getting up without scraping the wall, or ground, keeping noise level to a minimum. She looked out into the distance, but even with her adjusted eyesight, there was no way for her to see the trained mercenary at the distance she was at. She still had the cover of the pipes so even if they had a rifle, the likelihood of the bullets penetrating the thick pipes was nearly zero. However, Saiai didn't have anything to go on to say that there was a trained mercenary, aiming right for her small frame. And before she realized it. The pipes were torn apart in an instant, as a heavy caliber sniper round punched right through the pipes like plywood, and collided with her body. She was tossed out from the pipes, one of her smoke grenades going off as a result of the impact, as smoke and dust from both the grenade and the rifle covered the entirety of the hall, though the Mercenary was no where near the smoke himself.

That should've been it. There was no mistake in the trajectory of the bullet, nor a mistake in the aiming of Tsukino. Any normal human would've been killed regardless of the barriers the bullet was forced to endure. He hit the target right in her torso, so she might as well be in two pieces if not several. Thankfully for him, he never had to get any closer to clear the path for himself. But with the smoke, heat and dust coming off from the bullets destructive power, he was unable to see where the corpse had gone. None the less, there was far less than a handful of people who could survive that kind of round. And yet, just when he might begin to get comfortable, something appeared right out of the smoke, his trained eye able to catch his target running straight at him, with quick agility. His shot...failed?

Saiai was lucky. Fortunate. The pipes were just thick enough to lower the power of the bullet in able to take in the blast, though at the cost of one or two ribs breaking in her abdomen. However, she has dealt with worse injuries and forced herself to power through it. If she hesitated this time, she'd most certainly be dead. As the pitter patter of her sneakers hit the concrete below her, she already narrowed down, roughly, where her attacker was. She would cringe during the run as the pain in her abdomen shot through her body. Geeh...Judging by the power he fired off, and the accuracy, there's no super mistaking it... There was no Assault Rifle or Marksman Rifle that could match such power in her memory. It had to be a specialized sniper rifle to be able to make such destructive force. Though if it were the railgun herself, that would be another story.

With that however... Soon after she emerged from the smoke, she immediately began running in unpredictable directions. If the sniper was indeed powerful as she thought it was, it'd be too difficult to make an accurate shot while she moved around. The attacker's skills were unknown, but unless they have an ability to predict her movements, she must have the advantage. She was going to eliminate the threat. All obstacles must be eliminated for the success of this mission. ...Where are the others... She made a note that she did not see anyone else other than the one person who engaged her. A scout? Or perhaps they made their move on another tunnel and attempted to secure an alternative route just in case...Either way. She pushed on.

Post  Mugino Shizuri Mon Aug 17, 2015 10:19 am

A tremendous bang echoed through the whole of the digital line, deafening even those listening in from the other ends. Once it was gone for a moment there only remained static.

«…Kinuhata…?»

«...?»

Both Mugino Shizuri and Takitsubo Rikou remained unable to hide their surprise at that sudden and truly unexpected audible event. The loudness, the power behind it and even the baselines of the situation; all coming together would tell a few stories. Stories of which all would only lead to a single conclusion.

«So she made contact? Judging the sound, it must have been an explosive. Or maybe even a rifle? People nowadays have a thing for strange weapons.» It wasn’t as if she didn’t worry about her own teammates, however right now Mugino saw no reason for doing so. Even if there were reasons, what mattered more was to determine the circumstances than to shed tears about someone having fallen in the blaze of battle. Someone who wouldn’t make use of the information they were able to obtain was worth nothing in the end.

«…should we…go and check…?»

On the other hand there was the lethargic Takitsubo in her pink track pants and purely white t-shirt giving her a rather cute than sexy vibe whose heart was filled with worry as her comrades would repeatedly face danger. While she had experienced this kind of situation more than just once and was usually the type to root for others, she still couldn’t get rid off the uncomfortable feeling her stomach gave her whenever danger would draw in.

However…

«There is no need to worry. Kinuhata doesn’t go down so easily. She’s probably on the counter attack already~»

There she was, Mugino Shizuri, brushing off all menacing thoughts with great ease, once against honouring the skills of a partner she’d most definitely rely on in any situation.

And as she managed to talk so casually about it, the sound of her white boots’ high heels hitting the cold metal floor would continue to echo through the infinitely long hallways. Deeper into the rabbit hole the two of them went, the arrogant girl in the lead and the calm and silent one two metres behind her.

This is strange. Is it really fitting for a bodyguard to rely on such risky tactics?

«…I’m cheering on you, Kinuhata…», she whispered those few words of sincere encouragement into her earpiece.
