Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Yamaguchi Hiromi on Wed Aug 19, 2015 4:17 am

Yasuo waited silently in his hideout. He was going to exploit the advantage his is given at the moment, the biggest advantage he could ask for in a battle: the element of surprise. Given his fighting style, he would have the upper hand once he could sneak and launch a surprise attack.

He focused on his enemies. He needed to gain as much information as he could in those few seconds. He analyzed them, analyzing their body stracture to get an estimation of their physical strength, searching for any manifestation of their powers during this time, and analyzing their personalities. Even though generally ignored, personality can be a big flaw in battle, that might be exploited against their owner.

If arrogance had a physical form, it would have been the girl on the front herself. The other girl seemed calmer and more collected. In a fight of nerves and patience, the latter would surely win.

However, the other girl's arrogance might just be a result of her own confidence in her power. He had to be careful not to understimate her. Just by a glance he could tell she screamed danger. He was going to be as careful as he could deeling with her, that's why he would use her own arrogance against her. The silent girl however didn't seem to have a strong body build nor any meelee fighting ability. He didn't know of her powers. But he knew one thing, she didn't have that vibe of danger around her.

Yasuo knew who his first target would be.

The targets were getting closer and closer, and the cold echo of the boots was getting stronger in his ears.

Just few steps separated the preys from the crow's nest.

3...

He took out his strongest gun, the Caliburn RR20s Anti-Vehicle Revolver Rifle. It would rob him of the possibility of double-wielding because the gun was bigger than to be used with only one hand. However, his other two guns lacked in punching power. He couldn't take the risk of having his prey fight back while escaping death. In case this prey was resistant enough to withstand a bullet injury, he would at least ensure she is knocked down, preferebly unconscious, thanks to this gun's strong punching power.

2...

He adjusted his position without making any noise and aimed at his prey.

1...

He put his index finger on the trigger.

0...

And he pulled it.

A shower of bullets came running down on the girl known as the Meltdowner.

'This should be enough to at least knock her down', he thought.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Himegami Aisa on Wed Aug 19, 2015 5:44 am

After firing, there were two steps a sniper had to take immediately afterward. First, they had to confirm their kill. Unless they could report that they had, beyond all doubt, killed their target, a sniper had no use. The second was to dismantle the rifle, pack it up, and change positions without wasting even a single moment. The reasoning behind those two actions were both intrinsically related to the purpose of a sniper.

-A sniper kills their targets from afar.

-A sniper kills their targets with a single bullet.

-A sniper kills their targets without leaving any room for doubt.

-A sniper is an invisible predator, who is never seen by his prey.

-A sniper is never injured by their target.

Those precepts could be considered gospel, guidelines, or blatant lies depending on the individual, but to Tsukino, they described the purpose of a sniper. They were simple facts to him. As such, his three step hunting method, to kill, confirm, and escape is designed for the sole purpose of following those precepts. He would kill his target with a single bullet, confirm that they died, and then leave the scene without even being noticed, much less harmed.

All of these facts only served to deepen Tsukino's shock when he saw the heat signature of his target leap suddenly begin moving from beyond the curtain of smoke that had been created when he fired his shot. A sniper kills their targets with a single bullet. A sniper is an invisible predator, who is never seen by his prey. Both of those precepts had just been violated. With that, Tsukino was no longer a sniper. The conditions required for him to call himself one had been demolished. He would have to fight for his life using a method of combat far removed from what he was used to.

But even if they were not his preferred tactics, that did by any means mean that he was not capable. Even without his position as a sniper, he still had his incredible aim forged by years of practice, his combat experience built up through countless battles, and the weapons with which he had been supplied.

What was once his target was now moving rapidly and erratically as they drew closer. With his enemy now aware of his presence and the fact that his rifle's long barrel, intended to stabilize the aim over extreme distances, made aiming at a moving target in such close quarters even for a man of his skill, the gun with which he had made his living was now useless. However, allowing sentimentality to impair your judgement in battle would inevitably bring you close to death, so he abandoned it anyway, pocketing only the scope as it would prove useful in these tunnels even without the main body.

With the large bulk of his sniper rifle left behind, Tsukino was free to move as he wished. The first thing he did with that newfound freedom was to quickly draw his pistol and begin backpedaling, increasing his distance with the enemy without showing his back to them. He'd just passed through this portion of the tunnels not long ago, so he didn't have to worry about backing into a wall.

At this point, his enemy had already emerged from the smoke, and what he saw surprised, angered, and awed him all at once. It was a little girl. He was surprised because the enemy that had rendered him ineligible for the title of 'sniper' was just a child. He was angered because for a girl so young to be a member of the dark side, and capable of such a feat, she would have to be an esper relying on a power she had obtained by pure chance instead of skill built through experience. And he was awed because even with the pittance of his experience she had, and regardless of whether it was due to her ability, the fact remained that she had survived his shot.

The fact that the enemy was a moving target was meaningless to him. All he had to was watch her legs, her line of sight, her arms, and her center of gravity to discern where she would be in the next second. And at such a close range, a second was more than enough time for him to aim a shot. And so, since he had the ability to act, he did so.

Without paying any heed to the enemy's attempts to hinder him, he fired his pistol at the precise spot which had been hit by his sniper rifle just a few moments earlier.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Mugino Shizuri on Wed Aug 19, 2015 2:09 pm

Someone’s presence is a weird thing. There are people capable of erasing it completely, just on a whim. Then there are people capable of noticing another person’s presence just as quickly. And lastly there are those that have no extraordinary sense, for both hiding or finding. Right now this could be said for both of them, the hunter and his prey.

In the end, though, if both the attacker and victim are equally ranked in regards of concealment and notice of presence, who would win the upper hand if it’d come to a clash between sensing and not being sensed.

«…Mugino…»

That faint voice tipped the scales. It was too faint for the opponent to really take notice, but for her ally Takitsubo Rikou just had saved the day, as Mugino had immediately reacted to that vague notice, noticing the same abnormality that other girl had most likely seen.

A slight shimmer in the dark, metal, a faint clicking sound and killing intent.

While she may not have been cut out for combat herself, Takitsubo Rikou had an advantage of her own, given to her by her very purpose in ITEM. AIM Stalker may not have been active and the person targeting them may not even have had an AIM Diffusion Field to begin with, but that didn’t remove the fact that her attention level was far greater than that of the group’s arrogant leader. While Mugino had simply overlooked that one crucial detail in all her carelessness, her assistant had once again proven her worth.

And not even a second too late.

At the sudden motion of the predator, Shizuri took a strong leap backwards, right the moment the trigger had been pulled for the first time, releasing a tremendous roar of merciless destruction. With the storm of bullets mercilessly tearing into the highly stable walls, truly ripping into them it had become obvious what would have happened if she hadn’t reacted that quickly. Definitely, this was no ordinary gun.

«Takitsubo! Take cover!», shouting out her rash command the femme fatale switched from defence to offence even before her heels would contact the floor again. With a sway of her right hand she released a powerful flash of green light mid flight; that counter attack would not leave any time for a short breath or continuity, crushing any attempt at consecutive strikes. After all one hit of this insane attack was more than enough to end all attempts of resistance, simply turning anything in its way to nothing but vapour.

If one side relied on inhuman fire power, the other would simply return the favour with an even greater insanity; it seemed like this would become the basic rule of this fight.

Using her counter attack as means to lengthen her flight, the Meltdowner had quickly built up seven metres between herself and that strange attacker. She had yet to see their face.

«So, Mr. Sly Bastard. Now that you missed your golden chance, would you be so kind as to at least reveal yourself? Of course that’d be only for me to at least see who it is…that I will crush

The ambush had become a failure, the next stage had arrived. Its name was rampage.

•••

Meanwhile the lethargic girl Takitsubo had done all she would always do once things became messy. There was no use for her AIM Stalker, not only because the target wasn’t likely to be an Esper, but because it seemed to be a waste to make use of it on closer ranges. So there was no need to not follow the usual protocols.

Bringing up her low stamina, the girl had simply crossed an intersection in no time, hiding around a corner while at least keeping an eye and an ear on the battle. If necessary she would flee further down into the network. With Mugino going loose, safety held the highest priority.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Kinuhata Saiai on Sat Aug 22, 2015 2:52 am

Saiai was a trained assassin in her previous work, and to be honest, nothing much has changed in terms of worth ethic, but this time, Saiai had people she looked up to. Those she intends to protect. She wanted them to rely on her, as she has relied on them. They were a team, or rather they were considered friends. She never really had any friends before, but if she did, they would be the first. If she failed now, not only would she be the let down of the group, but she would be a let down to her friends. An unacceptable result. Whether for her friends, or her duty, she was determined to eliminate the man in front of her, as she continued to run at a fast pace.

Running down the dark corridor, she was met with small arms fire. The sniper's sidearm unleashed small lead bullets toward her direction. It might as well have been dust in the wind compared to the rifle. Still, she continued her pace, still not willing to accept a bullet for getting cocky. As the distance was closing, one particular round hit her right in the injured rib cage. However, this is when the mercenary would see what was the cause of her survival.

Only partially visible for the moment he witness the connection, the bullet never pierced her skin, or even cloth for that matter. Instead it was forcibly stopped, as pressurized nitrogen holds the shard of lead right before impact. Though it would be very difficult to tell what exactly stopped it regardless. However, he can confirm, at the very least, that she was indeed an esper of some caliber.

While she winced in pain from the force, it didn't have much power compared to a bruising punch. She pressed on, only being slowed ever so slightly. Though him trying to concentrate on his shots, and Saiai with her sprinting, he was never going to make it back to the end of the hall. However, as Saiai approached, she snatched up the rifle with one hand, and tossed it in a slight spin, aiming to pin him to the ground with the overweight rifle. "Aye." However, how is it that something so heavy can be tossed like a Frisbee like that? First the bullet was unable to make proper contact, and now she shows off inhuman strength. Did she have only one ability with multiple applications, or two entirely different one's. The latter should be impossible. But the first just seemed too out there, and yet here she is doing the impossible. If I don't finish this soon, my presents will be super found. I need to end this...

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Kira Kohaku on Sat Aug 22, 2015 5:58 am

As expected, the others had been caught in a daze by the flash grenade. While the fact that the flash grenade had detonated ten meters away from the target would mean that it would not be effective at close range, it did not matter. Frenda had bought a few seconds which would allow her to rush on an erratic path towards the target so that the bodyguards would not be able to gauge her location for a short period of time.

As such, the firearm shot by one of the bodyguard never came close to even hitting her.

As she had closed in about 5 meters, she noticed one of the two seemed to have snapped themselves out of the daze and was dashing towards the wall and digging a knife into it. In the end, they're working towards a simple victory condition. She's likely an esper who is cutting into the wall to make an escape route. In that case…

She tapped at another area on her skirt and caught a grenade that fell out of it. I'll just have to blow the escape route away!

A smile showing nothing but sheer jubilation at the checkmate she had predicted imprinted itself onto Frenda's face.

Four meters left.

However, the expression changed into one of sheer surprise as she saw a slab of material fly out of the wall as if it were trying to block her off. She would not make it in time but there was still something she could do. There was a way for her to deal some damage.

She threw the grenade right into the location on the other side of the wall where the slab would collide with to form a full wall.

In that moment, Frenda stopped moving and jumped back by a meter. She heard the characteristic "Kaboom!" of an explosion from a grenade before running again.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Tougane Masaru on Sat Aug 22, 2015 9:43 pm

…… despite the effort of the esper, namely Oda Rin, she was too late.

A sphere shape attached with a squeeze safety and a lack of a ring pin, differed itself from the previous cylinder shape one, was somehow present on this side of the wall, a few inches apart from the said wall.

No time to contemplate. One must inductively estimate the worst outcome.

Their salvation became damnation, the barrier prevented them for returning the grenade to its sender as it already made its way in front of them.

The trio had some distance between the grenade and themselves, but they were still in the blast radius.

They needed to run to the direction where they came in an attempt to back away further from the blast.

Oda who could barely make distance, tried to pull the same trick twice by sticking the knife into the wall after she believed she made hardly-enough distance.

Tougane had no option than backing up and shoving Tsukasa with him to avoid the blast and its shrapnel.

*kaboom*

It went off as they desperately tried to pull off what they thought could save them. Emergence of darkness came after when the lighting around was damaged by the blast.

The blast threw off Oda’s concentration on calculation, her second wall-made barrier did not slide all the way to the other side and only stopped roughly a quarter of the whole length to the other side.

Small pieces of debris from the nearby affected walls torn by shrapnel and shockwave hit Tougane as he lay on the top of Tsukasa. His vest saved him from most of them except the one it hit the right side of his head.

His adrenaline was pumped out too much for him to feel the pain he had, it also gave the strength to get up and retreat further. He quickly dragged Tsukasa whom he had pushed and shoved earlier along the shaft and took a left turn on the nearest intersection that was visible due to the dimly-lit bulb just above. They leaned on the wall. Tougane took no more than 2 seconds to catch his breath without knowing before he peeked from the corner.

The light bulb ahead was blown, the pitch black void he saw earlier moved closer just now. He suspected that if he were to use his flashlight to shine through, there would be thick smoke that the light could not cut through it, the fact there was no ventilation here may be the reason it would still last longer. He could not see Oda, he could not see anything behind the pitch black void with slight grey fog lurking at its entrance. He let go of his primary and let it hang as he switched to his grenade launcher and loaded a round of tear gas in its chamber. He left one of his 2 pistols he brought with and a magazine behind for Tsukasa, he would tell Tsukasa ‘to use it wisely’ but his speech was lost and the words never came out and merely spoken in his mind.

(Chances are she’s a grenadier or some sort of explosive expert- should I say maniac …. An offensive one, evidently from how she engaged us ..... I left Oda behind, I hope she's okay after all) his thought went through, reflecting what he needed and was about to do.

He peeked for the last time, estimated for where the grenade went off earlier, before launching a round forward from his grenade launcher to his desire location.

He drew up his submachine gun and shot the only lit light bulb above the intersection, the only one that had kept this area visible, before advancing forwards ……

He tried to rely on his sense of audibility to perceive of where his threat lied.

“May you find your persistence to live end here. I dreadfully miss you. Happy hunting!”a familiar voice was faintly vibrant in the air.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Yamaguchi Hiromi on Sun Aug 23, 2015 6:20 am

He did pull the trigger. He sure did. However...

He missed.

Just as he fired, the girl in the lead made a huge leap backwards and managed to dodge the attack at the last second. He never saw it coming. He scolded himself for not considered the possibility. He let himself be so engulfed in his gun's power and the obvious carelessness of the older girl that he forgot the calm one might take action herself. He overlooked her. No, he could swear it was the tea-color haired girl's tremendous aura captivated all of his attention span so the other girl blanded into the surroundings even more than he did. That was a huge mistake that that might cost him his life. That silent girl had all the attributes to be the observant vigilant kind. How did he overlook that? That kind was the most dangerous for himself, an assassin who relied on ambushing his victims and hiding in the shadows.

"Tsk."

His ambush failed, but the battle wasn't lost yet. he didn't have time to space out. The monstrous counter-attack was already coming. It was poorly aimed because the girl was still mid-air, so he just had to leap to the side less than a meter to dodge it efficiently.

On the other hand, he noticed the thick walls. he realized that if he was caught in it, he would have been dead. Just one similar beam, one attack he fails to dodge would mean his end.

'She's a monster. No,' he corrected himself, 'even a monster doesn't have such insane power.'

Even though, this was far from shaking him up. Sure he was taken aback when that girl successfully dodged his attack, however her meltdowner itself didn't waver his resolve in the slightest. He had come here fully prepared to fight enemies as strong as an army. It just meant that his guess was true once again. And it only proved that the gods were indeed by his side and granted him the challenge he had looked for. There was no way they would abandon him after all of this.

This belief made him recover from any hint of hesitance he was feeling.

He was going to fullfill his mission with the blessings of the gods.

«So, Mr. Sly Bastard. Now that you missed your golden chance, would you be so kind as to at least reveal yourself? Of course that’d be only for me to at least see who it is…that I will crush

The sentence was said with so much sarcasm and violence that he doubted his ears, not believing a lady could be this ill-mannered. But then again, living in this world wasn't for the kind people, so bumping into savage women once in a while wasn't all that far-fetched after all.

His plan failed. However, the real battle started now. He knew what he had to do. He already had a backup plan in mind.

He couldn't fight fire with fire. Trying to counter an insanely destructive power with more distruction would only lead to his death in few moments. Because he is on the losing side when it came to brute force after all.

He had other strong points, mainly his agility and quick movements. he would exploit that against her. For that, his current gun wouldn't be of much help, it would actually be a hindrance because of its weight, so he discarded it and took out his other two guns.

Just as he did, he noticed the calm girl went hiding in a corner while leaving some distance between them.

'Good. This way she won't be able to warn this hag against my surprise attacks, and even if she tried to, she won't make it in time from that distance.'

He emerged from his hideout with slow and heavy steps. Looking at him you would think a prince would come out of there, not an assassin in the Dark Side. He was faking it though. That was all an act, for the sake of his theatrical appearance, of his constant play. Such a fabulous person as himself needed to have an exciting and thrilling appearance on the scene of events, didn't he?

"Now now. I don't think sly and kind are supposed to be used in the same sentence, are they?", he said in an equally sarcastic voice as his face gradually came out to sights from the shadows, "Also, it saddens me to say, hmm... no, pardon, in reality it gladden me to say, that I will be the one to crush you today! Do you hear me, Oh My Dear Brute Hag?"

Both of the arrogant fighters stared at each other.

Then...

After some moments...

Both of them felt it...

Something like an electric signal...

Running through their brainwaves...

Heating up their blood...

Triggering their muscles...

It was...

The fateful moment...

Only the strong could feel it...

And so...

The fight...

Finally...

Started!

Yasuo quickly grabbed a stun grenade, making sure the careless girl wouldn't notice and exploiting the fact the other one couldn't warn her about it because she wasn't close enough, and he threw it while covering his face with his hat, waiting for the effect to wear out. When the light started fading out, he removed the hat to see if it worked on his opponent.

(OOC: Whenever Yasuo says "I", it would translate to "Ore-sama" in Japanese. Kinda to show his superiority. Also his "Oh My something." is similar to "Ô Mon something." in French or to "Waga something." in Japanese)

«Cheap.» What he would find after removing the hat from his face was neither a paralysed opponent nor anyone that looked hardly surprised at all. With the usual smirk of superiority on her lips it seemed the girl with the tea-coloured her didn’t even take him serious at all.
She stood there with her right arm stretched out and her index finger aiming straight for his very heart.

He had done a mistake by assuming two consecutive surprise moves would work out like a perfectly well played combination. She might have not noticed the quick movement of drawing the grenade but someone with at least a little experience in this world of combat would without doubt immediately tell what the signals of throwing a tiny object and covering one’s own face had to mean.

Reacting naturally she had simply stretched out her hand as if shielding herself, presenting an open palm in front of which a mass of green light had manifested, forming a disk of a one metre radius, covering all of her upper body. The Meltdowner surely would block vision for a moment, but that’d also mean the light would be blocked as a positive side effect.

With the need for the shield having disappeared after only that short moment, it had simply disintegrated into thin air.

Thus after the explosion had not summoned any change. Mugino Shizuri was still smiling casually with her finger obviously targeting the opponent. Once the Sly Bastard’s eyes would have taken note of the threatening gesture, an immediate barrage of beams would rain down on him consecutively.

The first of course went for his chest.

The second would target the likeliest path for a dodging manoeuvre.

The third and forth would do the same.

Switching from defence to offence even quicker than before, Mugino’s all out offence would test that Sly Bastard’s movement capability.

«My my my, if cheap tricks like those are all you’d need to crush me any underpaid birthday party wizard would do a better job than you.»

When it comes to the job, Rin knows her life is only a secondary concern. That is why she called out to the unknown individual to draw the culprits attention to herself. And that is why she was so willing to remain standing in front taking the brunt of the onslaught from their enemy. But even Rin knew there was a line she had to make sure to stay alive. Since it was obvious she couldn't protect the VIP if she wasn't alive at all. That is why she had to forcefully stop the second wall dead in its tracks and used her ability too keep the wall in place forcefully as the enemy's grenade went off. It was tough, she could feel the impact push against the second wall but her ability and the natural strength of the wall was enough to compensate. However such a move left her paralyzed for a second as her mind tried to ward off the strain of her decision.

Only for her to realize a second grenade coming from behind heading into the direction of where the first grenade went off. She wanted to smack the person it obviously came from, but instead she had to move fast since she had already let go of her control of the second wall. And instead pushed herself in the opposite direction, that the second grenade went just as the final trace of light was shot out by none other then Tougane. Her knife scrapped the wall on purpose as she pushed herself past Tougane giving him the chance to take the front charge as she headed towards the VIP.

Since she knew they only would both get themselves killed if they remained together against someone who uses explosives in such a small area.

Post  Sogiita Gunha on Tue Aug 25, 2015 10:49 pm

Well, he expected assassins, but damn.

Katsushige had to admit he didn't see a foreigner coming. Those weren't very common in Academy city in general, so he now had an idea which of the guys he had "offended" sent her after him.

Shit, and I thought he would be the least likely to take action.

All that just went through his head as he saw the figure, but he was definitely shocked once the battle began. He backed away a little when the flashbang was activated, but he soon realized that wasn't enough when his male bodyguard dived to cover him from the grenade. Who the hell dared to use explosives down in here?!?

This crazy little bitch, apparently.

Picking up the pistol and ammo left for him, he quickly loaded the gun and stowed it into his clothes, briefly revealing what seemed to be signs of having his own firearm beforehand. Both of his bodyguards were focusing on the girl, though, so nobody would notice.

Pulling up a mental map of the underground, he weighed a few possible workaround routes, assuming their path forward would be rendered unusable by the battle. He cursed under his breath as he calculated the delays it'd cause.

Seeing Oda Rin coming up to him, Katsushige gave his orders:

"Use your esper ability to close the path we came from; leave a few 'imperfections'. We'll be taking a detour."

Quick and simple. It's a tactic enough to confuse the enemy for a bit if the smoke was used to conceal an escape. If they were lucky, the girl might just blow herself up trying to figure out where they went.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Yamaguchi Hiromi on Wed Aug 26, 2015 2:22 am

'It didn't... work?'

He watched in awe as the green light shield that was protecting the woman has just disappeared.

He made two mistakes in a row. What was wrong with him today? They were both unprofessional mistakes. This was the first time he fall as low as to commit such mistakes. Was the girl's arrogance throwing him off and disturbing his usual pace? Just what was happening to him?

«Cheap.»

Hearing the comment coming from his opponent only made him more irritated. Seeing the smirk on her face he felt frustrated at his own mistakes, that could've as well costed him his life, was his opponent any less prideful and didn't carelessly waste chances that were offered to her on a golden plate.

However, he could only agree with her. He wasn't a person to deny his misdeeds or to hide his failures. He aknowledged them, embraced them, analyzed them, corrected them and learned from them.

Just as the green circle disappeared totally from sight, he noticed the girl's finger pointing towards his chest.

"Damn!"

He knew all too well what was coming. He prepared himself to dodge. He summoned all his physical abilities. This was a bet, a bet with his life on the line.

Was he quick enough to dodge her attack?

He would just have to find out the hard way.

He heard the girl say something to him while firing her beams. However, he didn't exactly have the time to excactly answer her while trying to dodge the attacks.

Everything happened in a matter of a second, one second that felt like eternity for him, probably for the attacker too.

Just as he noticed her finger and prepared himself mentally and physically, the first of a barrage of beams came his way.

Seven meters separated the two killers.

The beam's speed was great, a normal person's reflexes won't allow them to escape in time. However, he wasn't a normal human, and his reflexes and agility were superior too. He already knew what the first laserbeam was targeting, and he knew that the most obvious, easiest and fastest dodging way was to the side, and he guessed that would be where the second one would target.

So, he just had to take the most unconventional and probably the hardest dodging way. However, he had the just enough body build to do it right.

He bent down, and the first short had just passed a few centimeters above his head.

The second beam had already been targeted and in the middle of being shot by the time Mugino noticed he didn't dodge to the side.

He made sure to pay attention to and calculate the interval between her first two shots for a reference.

'One second', he concluded.

Two more shots to go.

Two seconds and sever meters.

He could pull this off. If he made two consecutive jumps he'll be able to hit two birds with one stone: dodging the attacks and shortening the distance immensely, for his opponent to be in his meelee attack range.

The third beam was fired after exactly one second like he thought.

However, the Black Crow was already mid-air. He calculated the timing to be just during the time-lapse between the shots, and made sure to apply enough strength but no more than necessary to be back on ground in time to be able to perform his second jump before the last attack.

When the fourth beam came, it went to the ground as he suspected, probably expecting to attack him by surprise once he fall down. However, he was faster, and most importantly, acted according to the exact time-lapse between the attacks.

With the four shots dodged successfully, he regained equal ground with his enemy. More importantly, they were less than a meter apart. He achieved what he aimed for.

It was his turn for a counter attack now.

Seeing from the girl's action patterns until now, she seemed unable to attack and defend at the same time. She wasn't able to fire those beams and create that shield in one go. This meant that she had to choose one of them. And he would take advantage of that weak point.

He quickly threw a punch to her face. However, before she'd notice, he would stop midway. He was just feinting. He'd kick her instead, more precisely, a side kick, aiming to disrupt her stability by attacking her legs and make her fall.

Post  Mugino Shizuri on Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:15 pm

The feint had worked out. Mugino had been wide open, allowing the attack to connect with full force. Even she remained unable to hide the surprise at the sudden impact followed by an unavoidable loss of balance.
So that Sly Bastard had not only managed to bypass her sure kill attacking pattern but also managed to land a direct hit on her legs, resulting in her hitting the ground and dirtying her newly bought dress in the process.

He had surpassed all of her offence, created a feint not even she would be able to predict and then had simply used his leg to execute a crucial kick aimed at the legs, shattering all balance she would have left, especially now that she had braced for the fist’s impact.

Of course she’d fall after that. Smacking onto the dirty metal lattice back first, the black shorts she was wearing underneath her short dress’ skirt were exposed by the acting forces. A groan escaped upon feeling the cold sensation of the impact.

With her legs slightly spread and both her arms pointing upwards the fallen Mugino Shizuri gave of the impression of a turtle turned to lie on its shell, absolutely helpless.

But…wasn’t there something odd about it…that position?

«…do you know how expensive that dress was…?»

Complaining about the dirt that had gotten onto the fine garment more than the damage she’d likely had taken, her expression had changed into one of annoyance. That chilled arrogance had disappeared, to only have her seem like a spoiled princess that had one of her poor servants spill water on her shiny shiny dress. That expression was accompanied by a number of glowing orbs of green light that appeared floating in the air around her, four of them.

The next instant the darkness was driven away yet again. The brightness of intense green light was covering anything as far the eyes would reach.

She had aimed, she had calculated and she had predicted.

The distance was too small for any tricky manoeuvres like he had used before to quickly work out on a whim, yet still large enough for her to make proper use of her ability. The tunnels were neither wide nor high and instead of the single beam that’d put such hard pressure on that agile dancer, it’d be a number of three equally strong ones – even if that’d mean for the time frame between aiming and firing to be slightly longer.

Heat and pressure burst out, as three beams moving at the speed of light were released simultaneously. All three were aimed at a point a few metres behind the Sly Bastard, all rushing at it from different ankles.

Even if he was able to dodge one or maybe two, three of them would become a lethal trap in this narrow a tunnel. Surely if he doesn’t have any ace up his sleeve a hit would be close to impossible to prevent…

From the beginning, there was no other possibility, but it was now proven beyond all doubt. The girl was an esper. Every single shot he'd fired had been deflected by some invisible barrier that seemed to surround her body. Most likely it had also repelled his sniper shot. And if it was sturdy enough to hold up against that, then even if he were to pepper at her for hours on end, it was unlikely that he'd manage to even a single scratch. So long as his strongest weapon was only of this caliber, all choices but retreat would lead to his death. But just as he began to steel his senses for the sake of his retreat, his enemy acted.

"Aye."

With just a single hand, the girl had plucked his abandoned rifle off the ground and tossed it into the air with all the ceremony of a child picking an interesting looking stone off the ground. The trajectory of the toss didn't even need to be stated; it was going to fall right on top of him if he didn't do anything soon. The impact cause him to stumble, the pursuer would allow the girl to catch up, and with that strength of hers she would be able to rip him apart. Even ducking below the firearm-turned-projectile wasn't an option; that too would give his pursuer the opportunity to close the distance.

However, despite the great danger he'd found himself in, he already knew of a maneuver that would allow him to avoid the blow without stopping. He rolled. In a single swift movement,he twisted his body as he purposefully fell back towards the floor, and continued moving even as his weapon flew harmlessly overhead. After quickly confirming the passing of the danger by the sound of his rifle crashing against the inside of the tunnel, eh quickly transitioned from a roll to a crouch, and then a spring. He'd also taken the opportunity to holster his pistol since it would be useless from here on out.

It exchange, he drew a different weapon. This one was something that would normally never be recognized as a weapon, just a simple flashlight. It had no hidden functions; it would not explode, fire a bullet, or sprout a hidden blade. However, there was still a reason Tsukino had bothered taking the thing with him down here. While all it could do was shine light, this model of flashlight's intensity was on a completely different level compared to a normal one. If a flashlight of that intensity were to be shone in someone's eyes, it would have an effect akin to that of a flash grenade.

A weapon unused is a waste of space, and whatever the girl's ability it was doubtful that she could block even light. So even as he ran, he turned to look behind him, pointed the flashlight right at the girl's face, and flicked it on before she'd have an opportunity to guess what he was doing. With this brightness, her vision would be completely gone for several moments at least, and the burning of her retinas would likely last far, far longer.

Once the explosion had finished she saw the remains of a broken wall and another wall that had been pulled out partway. In the meantime, it seemed the taller guard had defended the target and was attempting to retreat. As she saw this, she took her first step so that she could follow. However, this was all stopped when a round fell right where her grenade had landed earlier.

Out of reflex, Frenda stepped back. Whatever it was, she was unable to tell due to the lack of light but the amount of time an explosive could take to detonated varied on the type of explosive and there was no point in taking an unnecessary risk with it.

However, the round began to spew large amounts of gas. Given the amount of confinement in the area and the risk of hitting the other bodyguard, it was likely not something lethal but something meant to keep her stuck in the area for some time.

Basically, they want to stall for time and use an alternate escape route, she deduced. Frenda could take the risk and run through the gas to follow after them but there was a chance that the unknown fluid would disrupt her senses if she breathed it.

But in the end, you only gave me method to slow you guys down. Frenda smiled. The target had given her a good weapon to fight with.

So, Frenda jumped back a few meters and threw one of her grenades to about a meter from where the large amount of gas had collected. Another explosion rocked the air of the shaft and tunnels. The area where the grenade had been heated up tremendously and a large amount of carbon dioxide and water vapor was added to the area.

Now, such a move would seem completely useless and a waste of perfectly good ammunition to a normal person. However, the girl named Frenda always has a method to her madness.

Due to the grenade, the temperature of the detonation zone had increased severely and the number of moles of vapor and gas had increased as well. In Chemistry, there is a law known as the Ideal Gas Law that dictates a mathematical relationship between Pressure, Volume, moles of gas, and temperature. As such, it establishes a proportionality that dictates that when amount of vapor and gas along with temperature increase, pressure increases in a space of constant volume. Frenda, as a chemistry expert was perfectly aware of this. In fact, increasing the air pressure in the area of the explosion was exactly what she was aiming for.

An increase in pressure in one area causes a pressure differential and a pressure differential causes fluid flow. In other words, there would be wind flowing from the explosion's epicenter. As the the thoughts ran through her head, it happened. A huge burst of wind flowed both ways from the epicenter. Some pushed at Frenda. The other direction pushed all of the tear gas along with a  good amount of Carbon Dioxide and Water vapor into the intersection, splitting the gas as it flowed through both pathways at high speed.

"Now to follow the target." Frenda smiled as she ran into the intersection a couple of meters behind the tear gas.

His kick had landed successfully on her legs. The girl immediatly lost her balance and hit the ground with a strong fa-thud! She had fallen horribly bad. It must have hurt because he heard her let out a groan at the contact with the floor.

This attack and the total unability of the girl to predict it, let alone dodge, confirmed his suspicions. She was maybe a genius monster. However, as he thought, she relied solely on her esper powers. She wasn't exceptionally strong physically or any adept for meelee fights. He might actually be able to turn the tables around. He just have to keep avoiding her deadly beams and landing attacks that exploited her weak body and reflexes like he just did. He had the upper hand when it came to that field.

Seeing her laying down pathetically on the ground, a smirk made its way to his lips. He couldn't help it. She looked ridiculously hopeless. She was just like a helpless insect that got stuck upside down laying on its cocoon.

"Who's cheap now? Just look at yourself."

When the girl realized what had happened to her dress, the vibe of arrogance she gave disappeared.

«…do you know how expensive that dress was…?»

As she was talking, he had already pulled his gun and started pointing his gun at her. He would finish it before she gets a chance to fight back.

'What a spoiled brat... Soon your dress won't be the only thing covered in dust.'

Before he could aim properly, the girl's facial expression twisted to one of annoyance. She looked not only annoyed at what happened to her dress, but fed up with all of this fight all together. He guessed that she probably wanted to finish this as soon as possible and go back home.

At that very moment, three green orbs appeared in front of the girl.

'Shit! She can recharge this fast?!', he was taken by surprise. He didn't expect such a powerful attack to be fired with such short recharging time. He had assumed it would take her at least a few seconds until she'd be able to fire it again, enough time for him to pull the trigger. However, barely a couple seconds have passed and she was ready to attack again.

"...!!!"

Dodging to the side in such a close range won't be enough to escape the beam. Jumping would be pointless. Advancing, going back, bowing down, every possible way to dodge would be in vain when faced with so much destructive force when in a narrow tunnel such as this.

However, there was another single way of dodging left. Just one.

To make an upward bow.

It was his only chance to survive.

Any ordinary human being would certainly be burrying their grave if they tried it in such a situation. However, he might be able to pull it off. To be honest, he wasn't confident in his ability to make it in time. He wasn't an acrobat or anything like that. He was self-taught. His agility is mostly due to both his strong muscles and his everexisting passion with moving around. However, performing an upward bow out of the blue to dodge a laserbeam wasn't a laughing matter. Even a professional acrobat might fail to finish the whole bow in time and not get his face blown up.

He wasn't going to die here.

He summoned all of his body's muscle memory. He invoked his muscles' maximum output. He prepared himself mentally to give it his all. He put all of his concentration into his muscles' movement.

"Umph!!!"

The three meltdowners were fired.

And...

****

"Oops! That was so close! Haha!", he said in a joking manner, even though what he joked about was what nearly killed him a second ago.

Managing to bow upwards ina matter of fractions of a second was challenging even for him. To be frank, his heart was racing. He really thought of the possibility that those were the last seconds he had in his life. Fortunately, the merciful gods who stood by his side had protected his soul from the grim reaper. He succeeded in surviving the hard trial, and that only meant he had become even stronger. Now he had to overcome the biggest challenge he faced in a long time, this girl standing in front of him.

However, he didn't go out entirely unscathed from it. One of the beams had burned the last few bangs of his hair on the left side. And another beam had damaged his hat.

His hat?!

"Oi Oi... look at what you have done, now... Yoooo... You hear me...?"

He let out an extremely sarcastic voice, while slowly removing his precious hat.

"You hear me, you filthy bitch?!"

He finally said annoyingly. Even though he wasn't shouting, you could feel the anger in his voice. His gaze was cold like ice yet his blood was boiling. He was smiling because of the huge frustration he was feeling.

By the time he had finished talking, he had already been aiming his guns at her.

"Listen carefully. If you plan on attacking me now, my speed to pull the trigger when I'm already aiming at you like this is way faster than yours to create those orbs, aim and fire, all at the same time. Now, what will you do?", he asked in a provocative way, as if he was playing around with a kid, to build up unneccessary tension within his opponent and mess with her mind to prevent her from thiking accurately for an effective solution.

If her recharging time was as quick as he thought, she should be ready just now to fire again, or to build that shield, depending on what course of action she wants to take.

"I think it's time to get serious. Sorry for keeping you wait this long. Rival.", he made a serious declaration that probably lost its value in the ears of his opponent because of its inner self-contradiction. He was bragging about finally getting serious and thus downgrading his enemy, while at the same time praizing her and calling her his rival, and thus aknowleging she's worthy to be seen as someone of even standing. What he truly meant was only known to the guy himself.

He started pulling the trigger of the gun in his left hand. If she decided to defend, he would fire the right gun just when her shield disappears. If she opted to attack, he would just dodge like the first round and fire the other gun afterwards.

Click.

For the second time, a barrage of gunfire came raining down his new acquired rival.

Post  Mugino Shizuri on Mon Aug 31, 2015 5:22 pm

Most certainly the Sly Bastard’s combat style was on a level of its own. Again he had performed a miraculous dodge that was so utterly complicated and inhuman with such utter perfection, Mugino herself wouldn’t have been able to trust her eyes…if she actually cared about all this.

In any way the sudden reaction to her counter attack had given her a short occasion to return back to her legs before her opponent would break out like a raging volcano. Words of rage were spat towards her, leaving her fully unaffected. That look of annoyance prevailed even now. In all seriousness Mugino Shizuri was fed up with this shit.

"Listen carefully. If you plan on attacking me now, my speed to pull the tri-..."

Suddenly his words were cut off. It weren’t words that cut into his furious speech, but a sudden unforeseen beam of green light, aimed straight at the centre of his chest, passing straight through the gun’s barrel along the way.

«Learn to count, 99 cent Zorro.»

That Sly Bastard had made a crucial mistake. He had overlooked the most important of all details. His opponent had charged four orbs and only fired three of those before. In his arrogant speech upon announcing his doubtless superiority over her he had been too caught up with himself and the advantage he thought he held, to pay any attention to his very own doom. Additionally to that Mugino had not performed the usual motion of pointing her finger at him.

Naturally all her beams would move at the speed of light, a speed no living creature on this world would ever be capable of rivalling. The only way for him to evade the attacks so far had been to predict her aiming along with the timing of her firing. However this time that option had been fully removed. He hadn’t noticed the fourth orb, nor had she given any other sign of her hostile attempt, wearing the same annoyed slightly bored expression for the longest while.

It seemed more like occasionally smacking away a fruit fly than an outright attempt of attack. Nonetheless, this one was a pure sure kill move.

No matter how well trained the athlete, no matter how on edge the reflexes, this was nothing a human being was capable of escaping unscathed.

…well even if he’d perform that godlike miracle, the recharge was already underway.

Another mistake.

It was another mistake that could cost him his life.

No.

It was going to cost him his life.

Or so both of them thought.

He would have died, had he not dodged at the last moment.

He would have died, had he been any more blinded by his arrogance.

After dodging the first beam that came towards him, he was so caught up in his speech that he hadn't even realized one of the orbs wasn't fired.

Had he noticed any sooner, he would have avoided this shame.

Yes, he wasn't concerned about the serious injury on his arm, nor was he relieved for being saved of a sure death. He only felt ashamed of himself. His enemy had called him cheap before. And indeed...

Oh how cheap he was.

Some moments earlier,

'Huh?'

He only noticed the fourth and final beam when it was midway.

His eyes were wide open from the shock.

'Where did this one come from?!'

He hadn't noticed.

He was dumbfounded.

He was taken off-guard.

He was left speechless.

Until it finally hit him.

'There was another orb?!'

Of course, all of these thoughts occured in a matter of few fractions of a second in his mind. He didn't have the time to actually voice out his inquiries.

He didn't have time to daze off.

He didn't have the time to dodge either.

No matter what athletic he was.

No matter how far he exceeded his limits.

Nothing was going to save him from taking this blow.

So...

If avoiding the damage was not feasible...

He would try to minimize it as possible as he could.

He leaned and took a quick long step to the side.

It was just one step.

One step that separated him from the gates of Hell.

However, every miracle needs a sacrifice.

His sacrifice was an arm.

An arm for a life.

It wasn't that bad of a deal, was it?

No.

Actually...

It was the best outcome he could have ever hoped for.

The gods spared his life once again.

They forgave his arrogance, his sin, and gave him extra lifespan.

How lucky he was.

Thanks to them, it wasn't over yet yet.

The gods really are merciful.

Merciful enough to overlook his huge mistakes.

He smiled.

He smiled because he had never felt this loved in his life.

He smiled because he finally realised how much blessed he was.

Despite the pain.

Despite the shame.

He smiled.

However, he also understood.

He understood the fate awating him if he didn't back away.

Prolonging this fight any longer in his current state would only result in the worst outcome possible for him.

His death?

No, not really.

Well, in a way. However, death wasn't the worst for him.

It is not finishing his mission.

His bigger mission.

Not the current one.

This one was just a small step towards realising the biggest mission of all.

And...

A dead man wouldn't be able to achieve any of those.

So he couldn't afford dying.

"Ladies, I sincerely apologize but... It seems this is how far I can go now. The time's out, and I must leave you."

Without leaving them the time to react, withdrew immediately, hid in the shadows, and left the battlefield behind.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Kinuhata Saiai on Sat Sep 05, 2015 12:37 am

As soon as Saiai threw the large powerful rifle toward the running figure, she continued with her sprint in order to finish him while he would potentially be pinned to the ground. That was her intentions that is. Though the man seemed to have plenty of experience and was similarly a quick thinker on the battlefield, as he simply rolled with the rifle going over his head. Saiai however, got plenty closer since the roll itself slowed him down enough to a simple 5 meter distance.

However, it was not until he turned around that Saiai had lost her momentum. He pulled out some sort of flashlight, one in which will halt her chase and let him escape. Before she could figure it out, a light given off similarly to a flash grenade blinds her vision. She grits her teeth hard as her retinas burn and she shuts her eyes to protect herself. But she refused to stop her pace, and did her best to keep composure.

This is trouble some! I let my guard down for having the advantage, but he had another super equipment to use against me!

She couldn't afford to lose him but running at him blindly will be the end of her. So she needed to act fast. What can she possibly do to stop him without getting too close? She had the missile but she'll fumble with it too much to properly activate, and leave her open. Though if her memory is correct, the rifle will be right at her feet soon enough.

As the mercenary retreated, Saiai used the best of her memory to grab the heavy rifle and lift it up again, rather easily. She quickly moved her hand down the rifle to find the trigger and quickly gripped it as she aimed right in his general direction. She can handle the recoil of the rifle, though might receive quite the push even if it's against her shoulder, meaning she truly only has one shot. And it's a pure guess, as she quickly squeezes the trigger, and the shot of fate loudly boomed in the maintenance shaft as the heavy caliber round was sent right down the shaft. Would it hit? Would it miss? She wasn't sure, though confident in her memorization, even if blinded. But still, doing something like this wasn't easy to do, even for her. She fell on her back from the recoil of the rifle with a grunt, as she is unaware herself if she hit him at all.

Re: [SS] Unendliche Jagd (Unending Hunt)

Post  Tougane Masaru on Sat Sep 05, 2015 4:08 pm

Leather heels of his brogues were worn away, wool trousers were torn slightly where they scratched, as he slid for the second wall that emerged and barely reached half way. When his foot hit the cover he headed for, he quickly got on his knee before peaking to see the situation.

The tear gas was hindering the sight ahead.

He drew up his submachine gun, scanning for the threat.

Seconds of suspense ended when the sound of something hitting the floor gave a short resonant just now. As expected from a grenadier, either a sphere or a cylinder-shape canister with its safety and a lack of pin should land on the ground behind the curtain of stinging mist.

Instinctively leaning back on the wall as he sensed it, reciting a *tick* sound three times in his head before the grenade went off in accordance with his timing.

He could feel the wall he leaned on vibrated to the point as if it would crumble upon him, but it did not.

(How repetitive of you, you and your obsession with explosives) came the comment much to his annoyance.

The tear gas blew back through the tunnel passed him as if it was a mild storm. Pushing the gas back with a good amount of carbon dioxide and water vapor to the intersection and dispersed.

The intention that led the blast was not to attack him since it was not thrown further, but rather clearing off the path by using the pressure to push the gas back.

His two first moves were not much of success, and this very last one backfired. He would be really annoyed if he got a chance to think about it.

He laid down and molded himself in the dark, helping him staying hidden.

Amidst of dust from debris and stench of the gas that remained there came a scent of fragrance, the one that a woman would apply it onto herself, mixed with her own odor. He could smell it as it came closer and passed by.

The grenadier in a person suit of a girly appearance ran passed him for the intersection just a few meters ahead, his ears and nose told him so as the source of both footsteps and smell began to fade.

He would raise up the gun and fire, but what the distance was far enough for her to evade if he missed the vital spot …. She surely would retaliate violently with her grenades and giving him no chance to fight back. With the darkness engulfing between both of them, he would likely have a miss rather than a hit with his firearm, not mentioning there was not much of a window to shoot if she made it pass the corner.

(What good a grenadier can do in extreme close quarter - If I moved quickly enough and closer to her, the girl who used grenades as her weapon would not have enough time to calculate for her move, with those weapons at least)

Practical choice or not at this moment, one would not truly know. He ignored the use of his guns for now whereas other gun-wielding thugs would surely opt to cling on to it and shoot – he discarded the slung submachine gun and the grenade launcher that could obstruct his mobility and pulled his five-inch pocket knife from the left ankle holster.

He tilted the knife left and right lightly, he began to doubt whether if it was the move he should make. Wondering no more, the oxford brogues stepped on the floor without the usual noise they normally make from the leather soles and heels.

He crept behind her as stealthy as possible like a snake in the grasses or a cardboard box.

He was close to her in no time without her realizing, but moving closer now would alert her.

About 3 meters away from her.

He charged forth - into the range where her grenades would either do no harm or harm to both of him and her …..

"Use your esper ability to close the path we came from; leave a few 'imperfections'. We'll be taking a detour." The VIP had said very clearly and boldly the moment she had arrived at his location. It was obvious from what he was holding and how he stood that he was planning to find an alternative route. Which without wasting much time, that route lies through her due to her ability. She sure was going to earn every single yen of her money and while she wasn't completely happy that she would be leaving her partner in this endevour behind. She had no choice but to go through the job with the intention of completing it. Specially when they was against an explosive trigger happy foreigner who would soon blow herself up. Considering the nature of how explosives travel through tunnels this can occur as a horrible reality. Making Rin to curse the enemies luck under her breath as she casually drew her second knife. Walking towards the VIP she without much attention pointed to both walls and started to make the desired imperfections across the tunnel.

They was a good distance apart that any attempt to blow through the wall into one of these false getaways wouldn't damage the nearest one to reveal they was fake. Her use of her ability when her concentration was at her peak was fluid, the light of the cuts she made was apparent but could be easily missed if other things was happened. She then turned around without any stop in her motion before pointing one of her knifes at the cealing in the distance, causing a large concrete slab to be cut from about and pulled it down with speed.

It was perfect, the hall was marked with many imperfections which to confuse anyone without the ability to see through walls and she even blocked off the route she just came from leaving Tougane behind. Even though she didn't like leaving him behind she turned towards the VIP. "Point the way to the detour." Rin said without emotion, she was completely focused on the job and more so now that technically she was alone in protecting the VIP now.

While his roll had been successful on both fronts, allowing him to avoid the rifle as well as keep his distance, it seemed that the latter endeavor had not gone quite as well as he’d hoped it would. When he turned around to blind her, he found the girl uncomfortably close. There was still sufficient distance between them to prevent her from getting a grip on him, yes, but she had still closed the gap between them more than he liked.

Thankfully, his plan had gone off without a hitch despite that disappointment. The girl had been blinded, and he was making full use of the opportunity to get as far away from her as possible. But as he was running, he heard a familiar noise. It was something he'd heard after every kill her ever made, a sound he was intimately familiar with. It was the sound of his rifle being lifted from the ground. With great trepidation, he glanced over his shoulder, and...

With a sense of relief, immediately devoted his attention to the path in front of him once more. The girl had not been preparing to throw the rifle once more, closing the gap between them despite his best efforts, but had been attempting to point the rifle in his direction and pull the trigger. Had the circumstances been just a little different he may have felt an emotion on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, but he was sure of what he saw. The girl had been wholly focused on him, the sight, and the trigger. Not for an instant did those small hands of hers hint at any interest in reloading the gun.

Yes. The gun needed to be reloaded. While semi-automatic sniping rifles did indeed exist, his wasn't one of them. In exchange for rapid fire capabilities, they lost both accuracy and range. They were heavier, harder to break down or put together, and more prone to malfunctions because of the larger amount of moving parts. While those models did have their uses, they simply didn't mesh well with his modus operandi. He killed with a single bullet, so he had no need to fire more than one shot. And once he finished his job, dismantling his gun and fleeing the scene became his top priority, so anything that might slow him down had to be cast off.

That was why his rifle was single-action. You had to reload it after every shot. But in exchange, it had simpler mechanisms, lost nothing in the way of accuracy or range, was more reliable, and more easily taken apart. Academy City’s technology had resulted in weapons of both models having specs far in excess of what was considered the norm in the rest of the world, but even it couldn't bridge the gap created by the two models’ individual idiosyncrasies.

From behind him, he heard the girl crash down to the ground. As there had been no bullet in the chamber to be fired, it couldn't have been recoil, so the most likely suspect was the simple weight of the gun. While she didn't appear to have any troubles lifting it, the issue was it simply wasn’t meant to be shot from a standing position. One of the reasons for this was that there was simply no way to prevent the recoil from being driven into the shooter's body when most of the gun was hanging in the air without any support, but there was also another, more relevant reason. The distribution of weight. The way the girl had been holding the gun, most of its weight had been just hanging in there air. No matter her strength, there was simply no way for her to supported that weight, since she was only holding onto one side of the gun. Like a length of measuring tape extended out into the air, there was nothing she could do to stop it from falling.

Again, not a clean hit to end it all, but another spectacular dodge. However this time even his luck wasn’t fully able to cover for him. With an arm less the Sly Bastard retreated into the shadows. At least he should have, if Mugino didn’t…

…make no move at all.

Strangely enough she simply shrugged those events off as if her pride had never been hurt. Even Takitsubo Rikou, who had been watching the whole confrontation from around a corner, was a little dumbfounded by that unusual behaviour. «Mugino…is everything alright…?»

Taking a glance over her shoulder the girl with tea coloured hair finally revealed her smile. She wasn’t smiling about the formidable opponent she had just been able to face, nor was she smiling about finally being save or free of that burden. She was smiling for all the satisfaction she could feel approaching in the near future.

«Trust me, he isn’t alone and he won’t be retreating from this mission. My guess is that those dump rats are going to regroup in order to launch their next attempt at getting the target. Now that they know they’re not alone they will rush their assassination attempts to claim the target’s head before we can. It’s unlikely that they’re going to make it with a spare plan, though, so they’ll only turn into a short time burden for the bodyguard unit.»

«Once battle breaks out we just need to track them down and crush both of them in a single swipe~»

This was more like it. With success being taken away from under her nose, Mugino wouldn’t simply idly sit back and wait for something to happen. Speaking any of her words into to microphone she was expecting not only Takitsubo to take notice.

With the danger finally gone, the lethargic girl left her hiding place, returning to her partner’s side, following their lead once again.

Accompanied by both Takitsubo and an orb of green light she’d use as a flashlight they both headed further into the tunnel, ignoring the traces of glowing orange the #4’s lethal barrages had left behind in both walls and the ceiling.

«Kinuhata, how are things on your end? I take it you had a run-in as well?»

Tsukasa didn't really have time to point. He had to move through the shadows and run. He was neither an assassin, nor a ninja, but after being in the Dark Side of the Academy City for so long, one would have to learn how to cover their own ass and hide from those that mean to harm him. Of course, he wasn't as proficient as an assassin or ninja would be, but as long as he survived, no one could argue his skill. No one could afford to be that picky.

Quickly he headed to the third, unoccupied side of the intersection and then abruptly turned into a connecting tunnel. Hopefully, he wasn't going to find any explosives there. If the blonde foreigner doesn't defeat her opponent on time, Katsushige and Rin would have effectively made a getaway. Katsushige was betting on the girl taking a bit longer, coming across the walled tunnel and assuming they had gone back in there in a hurry while Katsushige's real path took him on another route towards the goal.

Kinuhata Saiai, on the ground and slightly dazed from the blindness, had mistaken her actions. She was incredibly disoriented. The breaking of her ribs, her vision temporarily blind for next few moments, and her memory fading as she lost her sense of space. In that crucial moment, to take her enemy down and do her job as a professional member of ITEM, she merely hallucinated the fact that she fired the rifle, confirming this when there was no impact with her ears.

As it turned out she had slipped on a stray pipe that was loose from the first round the sniper originally fired at her. When she took aim, her foot stepped forward and stepped right on the pipe, as it rolled out from under her and forced her back to slam to the ground. She groaned in pain as the target was now free, long enough for him to escape. She had a chance to get him with the hand held missile but such a crucial item is best spent with the outcome is almost certain.

«Kinuhata, how are *Static* your end? I tak-*static*-in as well?» A voice. Her idol. Her savior. Mugino Shizuri, ITEM's leader and most powerful member was talking to her in a damaged earpiece brought by the sniper's accurate bullet. It was enough to have her realize she was still on the ground, and wasting precious time.

"Hnng...!" Kinuhata in return slowly pushed herself against a wall, and sat up, slowly putting the rifle to the side, as she looks down the hallways, eyes however still partially blurry, and the pain throughout her body certainty didn't help. "Status: Yellow..Kh...I had to deal with a super annoying mercenary who got away...Standing by 50 meters from my original destination...Over." She muttered out in painful groans and pants. Even if she was trained and skilled in battle, she was still a kid, and having all this pain run through her felt even more sensitive then it would to an adult. She waved a hand over her eyes only to see nothing but a blurry and faded vision. It took her at least two seconds to register the hand itself.

As she dashed towards the intersection, she heard a sound from behind. She immediately stopped and pivoted around her foot and saw the larger bodyguard charging at her with a knife in his hand. She had been stopped a couple of meters from the intersection, unable to notice what was going on behind her.

It seemed like the bodyguard had actually stayed hidden within the gas and snuck up behind her. She did not know what gas was in the canister that was thrown in but she could only assume that it was something harmless seeing as the gas mixture did not affect him much. She was startled and that allowed the man to close in far too much.

In the end, this was a problem. The guy was in too close a range for her to use any explosives or even a stun grenade. All she could do was make the best attempt to dodge she could before the knife could do any harm.

So, Frenda moved diagonally off the center line of the shaft and jumped back one meter. But despite that, she felt the warm feeling of blood trickling down her cheek. It was not a deep cut. In fact, it was pretty shallow. But she was irritated. Her face had been damaged. The complexion she had worked hard to obtain was in great peril.

Even worse though was the fact that the target was missing. The target had likely taken the other bodyguard with him and ran into one of the two paths in the intersection. She had no idea whether the target was backtracking and heading to another one of the maintenance shafts or was using the other path which was under surveillance as a detour.

In the end, my nine minute deadline was pointless…It would probably best to inform Mugino and Kinuhata so we don't let the target escape…I could at least salvage my pay that way...

She was reluctant, but she had no choice. She tapped her finger to a button on the microphone while keeping an eye on the other bodyguard for any moves. "Mugino, Kinuhata. I encountered the target and her bodyguards but the target escaped with one of the bodyguards, an esper I think, in the end. I can't tell if they are backtracking of taking a detour through a path under surveillance but at the moment, I am kinda occupied."
