Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

While Nori and Kohaku were handling the matter of the doll, Kana continued to ponder the topic of the next step to take. Collecting more cameras wasn't exactly useful, but it was hard to consider what else there was to do. Was there even any other evidence left behind? From what she had seen so far, it didn't seem like it, but if it were so easy to find, someone else would've probably already found it, assuming the student council had actually been trying to, Kana figured.

"The locker room? That seems okay with me." It was a change of pace in the sense that it wasn't a classroom, as Nori says, though that didn't necessarily mean it'd contain any different kinds of clues or hints, but it was potentially a better option than simply checking each classroom.

As the two of them discussed the topic of simply collecting the cameras it became more obvious to her that probably all three of them felt that they weren't really making any progress at this point. As much as she would like to stumble upon some clue or consider some great idea, it was fairly difficult to consider anything in this sort of scenario. Intelligent or not, they weren't exactly detectives, although Kana had read many detective stories, it simply didn't conveniently convert into the real world.

While lost in thought she was brought back to the situation at hand by the sound of a camera shutter, and a faint whisper following it. It didn't take long to realize they just had their picture taken. Someone else was at the school with them right now, and now had a photo of them messing with a doll. Before she could take action, Nori had already began to chase the culprit.

She realized the situation would get even worse if she didn't chase after Nori, though. While there was no photo evidence of the culprit on the school cameras she wasn't sure what sort of power it was that allowed them to do so. If it was only effective on themself there was a chance Nori would end up running into range of a camera and be not only caught by the culprit's camera but even the school's recordings. Something which she had already taken great effort to make sure they avoided up until now.

She was already certain she was likely not as quick as Nori, but she would try her best. It wouldn't surprise her if she were the slowest of the three, but that wasn't what was important. She took off running without confirming what Kohaku was doing, but if Kohaku was running along with her, she'd likely know soon either from hearing, or now she that was trying to concentrate her power motion within range of herself.

Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Kohaku was hardly someone who could call herself athletic. In terms of physical capability, she could only ever call herself average. She would only ever be able to run so far before collapsing. In the end, she functioned far better as the prey running for the hills rather than the hunter chasing down a target.

Needless to say, she only made it as far as outside of the room in her run before she ended up cutting her losses with that methodology. Rather than give chase, the better option was to try and cut the culprit off on another route. That’s what the athletic type would have said.

The best option for her was to simply go in the opposite direction from Nori and Kana. There was a chance that the voyeur had went in the other direction, so it was a matter of a 50-50 chance between whether Nori and Kana would find them or whether she would. She would need to be thorough.

Getting into a brisk pace, she started moving.

Clenching at her phone and hyperventilating to compensate in the sudden rise in activity from her escape, she sat with her back against a door, keeping her ears focused on what was going on.

The act of running away at a long distance was not something she needed to do and dealing with Nori was something she absolutely knew was a terrible idea.

So, she hid in a more distant classroom and waited.

She only had to wait for about a minute to hear a set of footsteps pass by. Based on how the group had acted before, the one to give chase first would likely have likely been Nori, without a doubt. He had come off as the most impulsive of the group. She had done enough research on the three who had been investigating the dolls to get enough of a grasp on how they would act.

All she had to do now was wait until the next set of footsteps to pass by and…

Opening the door, she found exactly what she had hoped.

“I wouldn’t take another step if I were you, senpai.” At this point, Nori was too far away to hear it and the only one who could hear was the one who was now just feet away—Kana. “Make any sudden movements and things won’t be pretty for you or the other two.”

Eri would not lose control. That’s just who she was.

On the other hand, Nori was the victim of something more strange. A small head clashed into his stomach, throwing him off balance and knocking him to the ground, inside a stairwell.

His body was thrown back as his head landed on the floor and a hand covered his mouth.

The culprit was a smaller girl with pink-red framed glasses and short black hair. She was wearing a simple creme-colored t-shirt and a pair of loose, baggy shorts with numerous pockets. It was a girl Nori had met once before that day.

With a panicked expression, she put a finger to her mouth to signal silence and spoke. “Shhh! What do you think you’re doing?!” Despite her tone, she was able to keep the volume of her words at a soft whisper.

Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori on Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:08 pm

As Nori entered into the hall and began his chase after the culprit a grin spread across his face. The idea of getting framed for the dolls was a frightening one but his thoughts had now moved elsewhere. He was so closed to getting the person responsible for the dolls, he was so close that getting his revenge and never having to deal with a doll staring at him during class ever again. It all came down to whether they caught this person now. If they succeeded then their investigation was over but if they failed then they would be held responsible for the dolls. The masked villain was almost certain he could catch them all he needed was one good shot. As he ran down the halls he quickly reached into his inside jacket pocket and pulled out the baseball.

He knew exactly what he was going to do once his target entered his sights. Throwing the baseball at his full strength at one of their legs would most likely slow down their retreat significantly and if he was lucky possibly even bring them to a complete stop. However, the force of the baseball would’ve been the least of the victims problems as Kinoshita began focusing his ability on the ball bring its temperature down to extreme levels. He was making certain that his prey wouldn't get out of this unscathed, even if the ball didn't hit them with enough force to slow them down, the below freezing temperature of the ball could. Luckily for culprit the masked villain’s opportunity to hit them never came.

He had no clue they had hidden inside the classroom as he ran by and instead continued to run down the hall in pursuit of a target that was no longer there. Completely oblivious to his folly he continued to run until he felt a sudden blow to his stomach and he clenched his teeth as he fell to the ground. The baseball fell out of his hand and rolled across the floor. With his concentration broken his control of the balls thermal energy dissipated causing ice to quickly form around the ball's surface. For a very brief moment he was stunned but in a split second his instincts kicked in and his arm shot out reaching for the neck if who he assumed was an attacker. He had grown used to fighting with delinquents and thugs so suddenly being hit followed by hand covering his mouth put him in survival mode.

He was on the verge of grabbing the poor girl's neck and active game his ability but stopped just before as he noticed her face. He was suddenly very confused and baffled as he realized who it was. He lowered his arms and listened as she told him to be quiet while demanding to know why he was there. His confusion changed to irritation as he looked up at the girl. Why was he here? The better question why she was here. He was investigating the dolls, she on the other hand as far as he knew had no reason to be here. He knew she wasn't the person he was chasing as there was no sign of a camera on her and she wouldn't need to ask him what he was doing here if she had been his target. He gave an irritated look towards the girl as he waited for her to remove her hand from his mouth so he answer.

Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana on Sun Sep 03, 2017 9:37 pm

As expected she was falling pretty far behind, Nori was simply much faster than her despite her best efforts. However as she was running she felt motion within range of Spatial Sensing. She tried to come to stop, but ended up passing by the door, and just as she did the door opened behind her. She had already been looking that way as the door opened, having had an advanced notice of someone's presence through use of her power. As Eri came out and threatened Kana she couldn't help but be slightly amused. Did this mean that Eri was the culprit? It was certainly not the first guess Kana would've made with the little information she had so far.

Even in a situation like this, Kana was the type to remain calm. While she didn't yet know how this might play out she was confident she could come out of it in a well enough situation to not need to worry about it. She wasn't entirely sure what Eri was capable of, if she had a power, but she would have to see for herself if the situation arose.

"Okay, I'll cooperate. What do you plan to do to us now?"

The truth was that Kana was quite confident in the speed of her power, and not just that, it was also a power she could use without moving quite easily. She would rather not resort to that if she could help it though.  Instead this could be a good chance to learn more, provided she could get anything out of her without her doing anything rash. The way Kana saw it, as long as she was aware that Eri was the one here, it should be within reason to prove an association to the dolls if she truly is the culprit. There was also a small chance that she was simply investigating the dolls as well, but Kana didn't find that too likely in the given scenario.

"Are you planning to try to blackmail us with the photo?"

Kana didn't have a good enough read on her to know how she would answer her questions yet, but there probably wasn't any harm in trying to test waters. If she did act rashly from being upset by Kana trying to question her she was ready to use her own power to defend herself. For the moment Kana just wanted to see if she could get a reaction from her, or anything to try to get a read on the situation. Even if she didn't answer, she could try to read that or her body movements.

Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

It was all going so wonderfully smoothly that Eri could laugh out loud. She would not even dare to considering the situation, but there was definitely a crooked smile forming on her face. The senpai had taken the bait hook, line, and sinker.

“Good, good. You understand your situation.”

With her free hand, she pointed in the direction where Nori had run. “My demand is simple. Lead the masked bastard to another room with a doll in it. Any of them will do. Tell him to check on the specific doll and pretend that you’ve caught me and are dealing with me. Afterwards, I want you to take the medical nut and leave this building. Do that and I’ll gladly erase the picture I took of you three.”

Her smile continued to shine in that dark, dark hallway. “I think that’s a fair deal. I have nothing against you or her but he needs to learn his lesson for crossing me. Catch my drift?”

The boy had stopped resisting. That was what Nanami could feel through her hand. He was obviously irritated, and who could blame him, but he was not going to do anything stupid.

Nanami sighed as she pulled her finger from her lips, relaxed the extensors of her arm, and got off of Nori. “Keep your voice as low as possible and stay calm. I don’t want her to hear us.”

She had no idea what was going on through the boy’s head but she needed to choose her words wisely. One wrong word could throw everything into worse chaos than was already going on. Frankly, she was starting to regret having come into the building this night.

“You’ve been caught in Eri’s web. Right now, that picture she took of you. She’s probably planning to use it to frame you as the culprit for the dolls.” In an uncharacteristically firm way, she leveled all of the important information to Nori. “She’s prideful to a fault and she hates it when people cross her. Naturally, her intelligence tends to be put to use for that. She deduced your actions and timings and put a plan into action to ruin you.”

“Running around chasing after her isn’t going to fix anything. But we need to strike while the iron’s hot. Catch my drift?”

At the same time, another encounter happened.

“So, Class Rep. What brings you here so late at night?” Kohaku’s voice rang out before she found herself in an intense staring match with the taller boy before a certain door.

A perfect storm was brewing and the lynchpin holding everything in an eerie calm was slowly bending to fracture.

He knew to stay calm, he didn't need the girl to tell him to keep quiet after she had already covered his mouth and put her finger to her lips. However, while he was still mildly irritated about what happened the word her caught his attention. Who exactly was Nanami about? Did she know the identity of the person he had been chasing and once again he had to ask why the hell she was here? More questions began to develop in his head but in his current situation there wasn’t enough time. As the girl began to speak again the masked villain began to rise to his feet. He would listen to Nanami as at the very least the girl seemed to know more about the current situation than he did and as he listened he found himself disappointed. He had thought he had been chasing the dolls’ culprit but instead it was just a prideful and bratty girl he had agitated earlier that day.

”Tch, it just had to be her. I had hoped that the person that I had been chasing was the one responsible for the dolls but it was just that arrogant brat. How disappointing”

Nori had made sure to keep his voice down and spoke at a level just above a whisper. His voice didn’t carry the panic or anger of someone who was possibly being framed by an enemy he had made earlier that day instead his voice just sounded empty and emotionless as if he had simply stopped caring. However, this was very far from the truth as Kinoshita now knew exactly who he was looking for and knew what she was planning. She wanted to get back at him for what had happened earlier that day and being honest if he had been in her shoes he probably wouldn’t let himself off easily either. Yet he had no plans on letting her go at this point, being framed was not something he was going to allow and he was going to be sure to teach Eri that crossing him was just as bad or possibly even worse than crossing her.

”It sounds like you have some kind of plan in mind already and I would like to hear it but first I need to ask you a question. Why are you helping me?”

As he waited for the answer he walked over to his dropped baseball that was now defrosting on the ground. The ball had warmed up since it had been sitting in the air and given the amount of time it had just been lying there it was probably no longer dangerous to touch directly. Being cautious, however, he left his gloves on as he picked it up and quickly moved it to his pocket. He was curious about why Nanami had come here to help him, he had a pretty good guess but he wanted to hear it from the girl’s mouth instead of just making an unfounded assumption
