«Oops.»

As Oda Taichi was just so casually walking through the streets, things would not waste their chance to catch up with him. The same moment, just with a miniscule delay, as the voice spoke up, the sole of a high heeled pumps would smash into the area between his shin and ankle. Like the kind of hammer used for demolition work the freak accident would come in with a force that’d not only knock him off his legs right away, but deliver a kind of pain that’d make him question whether or not he’d just earned himself a broken bone or any other kind of severe injury.

However, that wasn’t the worst about it.

The woman who had so nonchalantly disguised the entire thing as simple misstep by not even bothering to get the order between event and reaction right, was now bowing down before him, giving him a half-assed friendly smile. But that was enough. The long wavy tea-coloured hair, the face of a magazine beauty and the chic summer dress were enough to bring back the world he was actually supposed to escape.

«Oh, it seems like you’ve dropped your phone~»

Not even bothering to pretend she had picked it up just now and simply holding it out before him with her bear-trap level grip, she would bathe in the opportunity to rub that fool his most critical failure into his face. Savouring the humiliation to the finest, she was allowing him to catch up to everything, joyously awaiting the reactions to form in his face. Hopefully he wouldn’t disappoint, otherwise…~

He may have been saved just a moment ago. Yet, only to be cast into a hell that was even worse.

The boy who thought he would be safe moving through the streets within the day would be proven horribly wrong.

«Oops.»

It would take a moment for that voice to register in his mind and before he could grasp mentally what just occurred he would crash into the ground causing a sharp pain in his side and send his mind into confusion.

"Ugh." Taichi yelped in pain and turned to his side, the dog, not a stranger to being hurt would resolve himself to get back up only to find a horrif—beautiful person? He was completely confused by this person's apperance. She looked like some model from one of those store magazines. Something which boys would clamour around to have a peek at the beautiful women that laid within them.

Though that beauty was overshadowed the obvious malice seeping from her every pore.

«Oh, it seems like you’ve dropped your phone~»

Those words struck hard like a punch in the stomach, trying to overwhelm his every resolve, but the dog managed to hold onto his composure strengthened by his stubborn will. He had already accepted his death the previous night when he ran into that hellhole of a battlefield this same beauty had displayed her terrifying power. Had this happened before that moment he probably would've been broken right now and would be begging for his life.

"So she was the one? Taichi had thought with no illusion that losing his phone had led to this moment. Though what should he do? There was no doubt he got tracked down by her scouring through his phone, so there was no point in pretending it wasn't his device. There was also no point pretending he didn't recognise her face since he literally ran into that battlefield last night despite knowing what he was rushing into.

So he had to play to his strengths and try to delay the likely outcome while waiting for an opportunity to escape her sight. He would mould his face from what was first confusion into a defiant glare.

"What the hell do you want?" He growls as he puts his poker face to the ultimate test.

Wrong call.

As the well-deserved reward for his response he would find her foot yet again coming down upon his ankle full force. The pain again. This time, however, she wouldn’t simply leave it at a short sensation. No, catching that all too frail bone right between her foot and the unforgiving concrete ground, she made sure to not only keep him pinned, but remind him of his position in this situation.

«Watch your tone.»

The pressure was as though it came from a truck’s wheel, making the fact that his ankle hadn’t been broken a straight-forward miracle. However, that wasn’t the lucky part itself. In fact, it was exactly how it was supposed to be, as it was more than clear that the fate of this most necessary body part rested in the hands of Mugino Shizuri.

«I’m the one asking questions here.»

Her tongue was like the sharpest razor, slicing apart whatever idea the boy had formed inside his head. There was no sweetness in anything she said or did. All he was left with was cold blooded violence. And that would become all the more reachable upon the next sudden increase of excruciating force to weigh down upon that frail little ankle bone of his.

«You took something that didn’t belong to you last night. Where is it? What did you find inside of it? What did you do with it? Tell me everything. You have two minutes. Oh, and don’t even try to lie or skip something, otherwise you may need a wheelchair soon. I hear even with Academy City’s advances there’s still a big risk of failure in fixing a truly complicated breakage~»

This was no longer a life or death situation. This was like a straight from one of these sadistic visual novels where you had a thousand dialogue options to choose from, yet only one of these would be truly correct, while the entire rest would directly lead to a bad end. Naturally, all of which were the extremely cruelly written kind, meant to scar the player at least somewhat so that they would feel forced to avoid any negative results altogether. Fortunately, while a single failure would leave long-lasting consequences, there were still other regions to go by in case she’d run out of possibilities on the first one. Hell, even if he there would be no physical pain left to inflict, the emotional kind was a vast field to explore – especially for someone who obviously has had the chance to pry deeply into his private life.

The agony caused by Mugino Shizuri's actions was all too real; though she hadn't broken the ankle, the pressure was akin to torture which is actually worse than a straight break. He would clench his fist and scream internally in pain, though Taichi would stubbornly keep his resolve.

Using torture to break someone who had his body beaten so many times would require more than just breaking an ankle. Though he had wasn't foolish enough to try and challenge this Demon Beauty to prove him wrong. It was clear from everything he experienced that the people that fought under the cover of the night were dangerously cruel.

Though he would yelp in pain like a dog he wouldn't grovel. He had no desire to give anyone this satisfaction.

Though his defiance didn't mean he wouldn't comply with this demonic beauty.

"Alright!" Taichi said seething in anger the more pain he felt. This wasn't something he couldn't control and it was true to his nature.

"I have no love for that masked man, and you clearly don't either! So I rather tell you than that bastard who fucked everything." he continued actually telling the truth here and more importantly he kept eye contact. The boy had kept a constant sense of defiance in the face of overwhelming fear. Had she scoured that phone, she would've figured out that he was someone really stubborn and his behaviour has been consistent.

"I already dumped the bag, wasn't going to keep something that didn't end up helping me. It was full of senseless paperwork anyway, though it all came from Arisawa Science and Research." Taichi complied though he didn't mention everything, the dog had to make sure this doesn't get back to Uiharu.

So he had hoped what he said and done was enough to convince this demon.

"I'm also willing to help you screw the masked man over!" Taichi adds further who blamed that murderer for the reason he was in this mess the first place.

There was a difference between this situation and your average back-alley brawl. The latter would mostly consist of fists being flung around while tapping into the territory of true violence only rarely. Yes, it would teach one pain and defeat, but was it comparably to professional torture in any way? The answer would come in the form of even more excruciating pain. Pain beyond anything within the scale of your average street level thug. Men would break to this. Soldiers would break to this. True professionals would break to this. So how would he stand a chance?

And yet, the reply he’d give after all this, was just what it was.

«Fucking worthless.»

Disbelief, disappointment and blunt rage. When she had heard what he had done, spoken in all honesty, something inside of her had died. And with that all purpose in her actions. Therefore, there was no longer any need to hold back. As her strength went outside of the carefully calculated limits, an ominous sound followed by excruciating pain would announce the advent of lasting damage.

And yet, even as he would be showered in suffering, it was not over. Her foot was still right where it had been before, pressing down upon the place she had all too nicely damaged. She would make sure to drown him in that ocean of pain and suffering. Agony until he would break. Experience? Endurance? Those would no longer help him. He was done for. Entirely so. No man would keep enduring this forever. Especially not some middle school student who got themselves hung up over some back-alley experience.

«Like I give a fuck what you want! Who steals something only to dump it for no better reason than being a stupid piece of shit?! God, you just piss me off, you fucking low life scumbag!»

More. More! More!! Digging deeply into the structure of his ankle she would twist her sole, abusing the heel of her shoe like a painstaking drill. He would suffer! He should! She wouldn’t stop until he’d be drowned in agony entirely, no longer screaming but writhing in pain, until he would collapse. Like she gave shit about how long that would take. That was the minimum.

Yes, Oda Taichi hadn’t simply made a bad call, he had made the worst. Straight to the bad ending. Oh, the poor poor boy.

Post  Hujisaka Natsumi Sun Oct 21, 2018 4:46 pm

Natsumi had honestly only leant an ear to part of what the boy was saying. It was bizarre at best to engage in a monologue after stating he wouldn’t reveal his life story, but at this point she felt too tired to argue.

Massaging slightly her eyes in a vain attempt to regain some energy, as slouching over wouldn’t achieve anything, she only muttered a response to part of his inquiry.

“Natsumi. I’m not sure I want a psychological analysis coming from someone with a short temper, though.” After that response that was dodging what she had been doing the previous night, she merely resumed her walk, in what appeared to be an aimless manner before it would soon be obvious she was trying to get back to a place she could get some rest.

Since clearly this attempt at investigating wasn’t going to work out immediately, it was fair enough to at least try to refresh herself before pursuing anything.

At least, that’s what she’d thought she’d get to do.

[?] A Certain Masked Man - Page 7 Empty Re: [?] A Certain Masked Man

Post  Damion Koyoko Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:39 pm

"Is is vaguely nice to meet you, Natsumi.." Koyoko couldn't really muster the energy to be entirely polite as he got up from his relaxed position to continue moving. It's best not to pass out in the middle of an alleyway or sidewalk, lest unnecessary trouble comes their way, or a stern talk from judgement or anti-skill about loitering like a bum will follow.

As they rounded the corner, Koyoko stared at the back of Natsumi's hood, seeing her hand go up to her face, most likely to rub her eyes or something similar. The way they both walked, it seemed both of them were completely out of it. He didn't know where she was going, but if it's far, she might just pass out before getting there. And he did manage to decipher that whoever Natsumi is, she was younger than him. As the irresponsible senior that he probably was, he felt a slight obligation to at least give her the energy to make it home.

Surprisingly, they were passing the front area of a cafe, with small tables sitting at the front. The smell of coffee and breakfast was in the air. 'Coffee...If not Tea, at least I can get us something to keep us awake.' He'd briefly sidestep and somewhat raised his voice a little to make sure she heard him.

"Hey, why don't we stop and get something to-"

*TRIP*

Being half asleep as it is, and having a difficult time to pick up his feet, Koyoko ended up tripping over his own feet, and began falling in slow motion toward one of the tables, with someone sitting at it. So not only would he probably be in a brief amount of pain, but he'll be forcibly put in a situation that make him drastically more uncomfortable. '...Cra-'

*CRASH*

The table would flip on it's side with ease, as Koyoko found himself landing on the end of it. Should the person in question who is sitting there be fast enough, they could probably get out of the way to be largely unharmed with one of the items on the table. However, as the table flipped, Koyoko went crashing into the ground with a coffee cup landing directly on his head, the half cup of hot coffee buting at his hair and head, so he couldn't lament over the soreness of his arms and legs absorbing the fall.

"Owowowow!" Almost immediately Koyoko stood back up, rubbing his head and face as the coffee stung at his skin, until it rapidly cooled from the exposure to the cooler morning air and losing the heat maintaining coffee cup that kept it hot. "D-dammit, just my luck..." He'd bite his lip as he can feel the coffee soaking into his upper jacket and hair, most likely staining the threads and leaving dark brown marks on his now wet hair. Looking over to see the woman, regardless of her reaction to the situation, he'd awkwardly covered half his face and bow. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't watch where I was stepping."

Post  Oda Taichi Mon Oct 22, 2018 12:18 am

There was no sense of mercy, no shred of humanity in the eyes and actions of the predator with its prey. The torture he was experiencing was the result of the inaccurate assumption that the world he stumbled on this last night was playing by the same rules he knew.

Like his endurance in the context of his world was strong compared to the average student, though it proved nothing compared to this dark side of the city.

The rules were different and the methods people are willing to use were much more serve. There was a difference between witnessing it and experiencing it first hand. He knew this demonic beauty was powerful and her ability was on full display last night, but amidst the pain that she caused had lead to his irrational anger relying on old methods that would normally work and that was the mistake.

The result led to further torture until something finally cracked.

What he knew and what he understood, the experience that had taught him the hard lessons had failed him. In the end, he was just a mindless teenager who thought he could take on the world and only ending up drowning in his own hubris.

"Stop! Pleaase I'll tell the truth!" Oda reacted with anguish expression, the boy would continue regardless. "There is aaa USB! I didnn't get a chaance to look whats on it because I got ambushed. They said they were taking baaack what was theirs and only figured out where they were from the paaperwork in the bag." he tried to explain under the pain he was enduring, the reason he hadn't said this first could be down to a misplaced sense of pride not wanting to seem like the thing he stole from them was taken from him so easily.

He could only hope this would lead to an end to the torture at least for now.

Post  Mugino Shizuri Tue Oct 23, 2018 5:21 pm

At least he had finally been broken. His desperately insufferable writhing was more than enough to warrant the effort she had just taken. It didn’t actually matter what he said anymore, all she wanted to hear was him shout out in pain. All she had wanted to see was him begging for salvation. That was as simple as her desires went. That was all it had needed for it to end.

With nothing more left to accomplish she would remove her foot from his ankle, but only after she had added one final even more gruesome push to shatter even the last hopeful fantasy he had seen in all that, letting him taste the sensation of something beyond any other he had seen previously.

Then she’d simply step away entirely, not even taking the opportunity to look back towards the battered and broken boy.

«I’ll be keeping this. Get a new one or something.»

Waving him goodbyes with the hand that was holding onto his stolen phone, she was showing him the least amount of kindness one could possibly show their former victim. But that was fine. After all, she didn’t give a shit. If he’d try to come for her, she’d make sure he would never come for anyone ever again. If he so much as tried to alert the officials she would play one of the cards she had prepared before walking in. If he would think he had escaped everything, she would remind him that there was no escaping it. This was why she had taken the freedom of keeping his phone and with it all of his contacts, information and glances at his private life. He had to know. That’s why she openly bragged with it, even though it did not actually matter to the case. Everything had already been taken from it already anyway, making it entirely worthless.

Still, she wasn’t kind at all.

«Arisawa Science and Research? Time to pay them a visit.»

She muttered, confirming her next goal. While this entire ordeal appeared to be as fruitless as possibly imaginable, the name of the company linked to everything was at least some sort of trophy. It all revolved around that name, be it the first victim or the data the fight had broken out over. Therefore, going right for the source was the best idea.

Of course, she wouldn’t do the digging or the preparations herself. Simply forwarding the new intel to the guys behind the scene was where her participation would end until she would be set onto the right path.

While his ankle wasn't broke, it was badly hurt and so even after his struggle to stand he would be limping for awhile the very least. Though the pain would be controllable and sooner or later he would adjust but these thoughts were made to distract him from the truth.

He was way out of depth in this situation, and he was still taken back from this experience. There were people who were willing to use torture to a dangerous degree and even kill. He probably preferred to remain ignorant at that moment and even felt angry about his past complaints regarding his daily routine.

He would miss his ignorance.

He would never be able to see things the same way again.

Especially now that demonic beauty had his phone.

Replacing it would be a strain on his budget, that would still be manageable. It was more the fact she knew probably every contact at this point and could turn her fury on them at anytime to wreck his life on a whim.

He may have survived her this time, but something was telling him she would be a problem in the future. And he wasn't talking about her going to Arisawa Science and Research since that goal hasn't changed for him either.

He had come too far and it would be all for nothing if he backed down now. He just had to be more careful and allow that woman or others like that beauty to do all the heavy lifting. He would at least observe the place and see if Anti-skill would act on the information that Uiharu sent.

"Just be more careful." Oda would say over and over to reassure his confidence and try to dispell the fear left behind by Mugino.

“Ugyaaaah!”

An unsightly, though absurdly familiar voice shot out from behind Natsumi following the terrible sound of something crashing, prompting Natsumi to immediately turn around in fear and shock; what the hell had happened on what was a simple walk?

She witnessed the miserable sight of a fallen Koyoko struggling to get back up on his feet and apologise for a commotion he had apparently caused. Had she burdened herself with some kind of pure klutz? It seemed as though hadn’t even noticed the very fact that he had tried to invite her, for some odd reason.

But she immediately stopped herself from judging him as her eyes landed on a more... "urgent" matter.

“…”

“…”

The older woman whose head was decorated with a fairly large hat made eye contact with Natsumi, and both stared down at each other in a terrifying manner, ignoring Koyoko altogether for a brief moment.

[OST: Last Order & Accelerator]

“…your boyfriend? Natsumi, I swear to God–”

“Hell no! And that doesn’t even matter, where the fuck were you?!”

And then, they both erupted into an argument… or would have, if the waitress hadn’t interrupted them with a slightly terrified cough, under the shadow of a much larger individual than any that were currently present.

He coughed, as well, but rather out of anger than terror.

“What the hell is going on here?” He slowly spoke as he glanced towards the destroyed table and drinkware, finding his way to the previously white-haired boy...

Koyoko shrunk back a bit, more or less standing a few feet away from the older woman as to not get in between the stare down between the two scary females. They weren't saying anything, but he felt either one of them could go off and start stabbing the other out of no where.

“…your boyfriend? Natsumi, I swear to God–”

“Hell no! And that doesn’t even matter, where the fuck were you?!”

"Eeeeh...?"

With the table flipped over and broken coffee mug, the aerohand would have believed he would be targeted by both of them in their anger, but with them at each others throats, the waiter came out due to the commotion and seemed like the only one who was rightfully upset. "What the hell is going on here?"

The only thing broken was the coffee cup, but the table itself was merely tipped over. They probably never had to deal with something like this before, as people don't usually show up with zero hours of sleep and right after having to deal with a life threatening situation, to the point of becoming less conscious on their footing.

Koyoko looked at those two as if they have a lot to say to one another and huffed. While obviously it was his fault for the mess, he didn't want to have this debate with the waiter while these two are rearing to go. "I-I'm so sorry sir. I tripped over and made a mess. No one's hurt and there isn't a problem. I'll put the table back and clean the glass if you want. Uhh...Can you go get this lady another...whatever she ordered, on me?" Thankfully, the delinquent was too tired to let his short temper get in the way this time. Apparently he could think rationally when mentally running on fumes. He'd begin flipping the table back up to the proper stance, and start picking up shards of glass with his hands.

'What is with these two? Are they enemies? Friends? Both?!'

“Fine. I’ll let it pass this time, but look at where you’re going next time. Seriously, how many more problems is this store going to have?” He grumbled something about drunken teenagers under his breath and returned to the inside of the shop.

“…Don't think that idiot is going to let you dodge the question. Where were you off to all night?” Natsumi reiterated the question as a bizarrely polite interaction occurred between the crude boy she had barely met and the store manager.

“Planning a date with a lovely researcher~ ♡! I was about to go visit them, but I guess you can go for me, though you’re going to have to hurry...”

“Oi, don’t treat me like your goddamn messenger!”

The argument was once again cut short before Natsumi could inquire to any further details.

“Aah! Don’t pick those up with your bare hands, it’s dangerous!” The waitress exclaimed in a hurry as she left to retrieve more appropriate material, leaving behind what seemed like an angry boss who merely sighed at the sight of this oddly sincere delinquent.

“…Your bizarre friends aside, what's with you wearing those baggy clothes?” Miyako whispered to the girl as she suddenly pulled down the hoodie off Natsumi’s head, who could only express a brief shout of shock, short of an answer, before she made eye contact with the waitress who had returned to assist Koyoko.

“…Eeek!! Boss!!!” Suddenly, the waitress seemed as though she had crossed glances with death itself, and fell on her back with a slight screech at the sight of the long-haired girl.

“…?”

This bizarre reaction prompted Natsumi to take a closer look at the store itself. It was quite odd, as the storefront seemed vaguely familiar to her. Where had she seen this–

“What now?!” The bulky man returned in a rush, even more annoyed than before as the waitress started pointing at the girl.

“That’s the girl who almost set the store on fire during the robbery last month!”

Silence fell upon all.

With the two bickering at eachother in the background, the only logical conclusion any sensible human being can come to, is that these two are great friends who can argue at one another with pure, unfiltered honesty.

'Should I be jealous or thankful I'm not in a relationship where people can publicly give a verbal lashing, without care of what others might think..? Are friends this blood thirsty now-a-days?'

Koyoko was more or less on auto-pilot at the moment. Very hungry, very tired. While it made him more polite than normal, but obviously some form of common sense was diminished even more so, as he picked up the glass to the point he almost cut his own hand. The waitress quickly rushed away to get proper tools to clean it up.

"Oh okay.." He sighed out as he left what glass he did pick up in a pile and stood back up with his jaw stretching into a silent yawn.

As the waitress came back to help however, turned back to see in slow motion the grand reveal. Her brunette hair was in full view, and her eyes like embers. A strong sense of familiarity immediately came to mind as Koyoko stared at her, his eyes widening slightly, and giving a gaze as if he has seen her somewhere before.

"W-wait...aren't you-"

"...Eeek!! Boss!!!" The waitress cried out in fear as a big hulking man stepped out, his figure almost overshadowing anyone who stood by him.

"What now?!"

"That's the girl who almost set the store on fire during the robbery last month!"

Koyoko froze for a moment hearing that not only was this girl, who he thought as kind and empathetic, was not only short tempered and overall quite rude, but was also involved with a robbery, resulting in her almost destroying in an entire building.

He gave a look at her that was much different now, as if questioning her very character and personality.

"...Eeeeeh...?"

[?] A Certain Masked Man - Page 7 Uiharu10
After Oda had left the office Uiharu was supposed to return to the infinity of paper work, but some things just aren’t as inviting as others. The intrigue offered to her by that mysterious USB flash drive had just been too great.

«Just another five minutes! I’ll definitely pick work back up, then!»

She had made up that excuse to calm her own conscience before she moved the terminal to dig into the mysteries behind the stick. Her curiosity wasn’t fixed on the contents per se, but more on the idea of exploring the system’s very fabrics. The security had been extremely tight – something that when the infamous Goal Keeper felt it to be that way meant a lot.

And thus, she would move beyond the confines of the graphical user interface and dive directly into the codes itself. She would dig out all kinds of structure, see the responses the system made and pass layer after layer. That ocean of white on black currently being explored by Uiharu Kazarai was deep. Just so deep.

Unfortunately, though that innocent journey of exploration under the promise of excitement, fun and total distraction from the boring chores would come to an abrupt end with a simple realization.

«A tracking program? Seems like it was triggered by connecting the flash drive…? Oh, no!»

How had it slipped her attention? How had she not seen? Had she been distracted by Oda Taichi’s presence? Or had all this paperwork made her grow dull?

Quickly her fingers would race across the keyboards at speeds you would not even find at a tedious e-sports world cup. That flower crowned middle school hacker did all in her might to somehow divert the tracked location to another place, somewhere far far away, choosing the sight of an Anti-Skill investigation in hopes of setting a trap for the worst case. Not that anyone would be crazy enough to come for a Judgement branch office in the first place. Right?

Right?!

It was late now. Late enough that the sky outside had grown pitch black and the streets had emptied.

Late enough that no one else was around.

Somewhere along the way, the girl with flowers in her hair, Uiharu Kazari had fallen asleep at her desk. She awoke to the cursor blinking on her screen. The lights were off. Whoever had left last had clearly not noticed her quietly snoozing in her section of the office.

Kazari blinked hard, bleary eyes focusing on the screen in front of her as she tried to shake off the drowsy feeling of waking up.

She had closed her eyes for only a moment, she swore. Letting out a small, disgruntled murmur like a sigh she reached for her phone. What time was it, even? Opening her phone she found a half typed message to Oda. Her memory was hazy but it must have been what she had been doing when she decided to rest her eyes for that fatal moment. She tried to recall what she had been meaning to say.

The office plunged into darkness abruptly as the light of the computer screens died all at once. The sudden change was enough to cause the timid girl to jump.

"The data stick. Where is it?" The voice was cold and hollow. Inhuman.

She whirled quickly, shrinking back when she saw it.

That dread white mask with two pits of bottomless black for eyes and a wicked, rictus grin slashed across it like an open wound. It seemed suspended in the darkness without a body.

Her throat went dry. Her voice refused to come. Her hands were trembling against her chest, still clutching the phone.

"Give it to me." The pitiless voice spoke again, an unspoken threat underscoring its words.

Her hands may have been trembling but her legs worked just fine. She turned, bolted for the door and threw it open, charging down the corridor beyond with a speed that would have surprised herself, had she the wits to realise it.

Her fingers hurriedly worked the phone's keyboard as she ran.

HELP. OFFICE.

Sipping on her freshly warm special brew summer edition coffee at a comfortably inviting and trendy street café, Mugino Shizuri was savouring the end of another beautiful summer day. Even with the bandages she wore here and there, her sense of fashion, demeanour and body language gave her exterior of a refined lady. Enjoying herself like this, would just add another significant factor on top of that impression. Indeed, of the many people walking past her some of the girls would turn in admiration while couple of boys found themselves drooling at her elegant and refined beauty.

But, unlike any of these impressions her source of entertainment hadn’t simply been feeding off of neither the mood, nor the taste of the coffee. It did add something to it, but wasn’t the truly valuable aspect. No, that came from the phone she was holding in her hands alone. She wasn’t surfing the internet and thus browsing through SNS and all that lifestyle. No, that phone wasn’t even hers in the first place.

She had forgotten that boy’s name. It didn’t matter to her. What mattered, however, was the torment she found herself able to inflict at simply holding all this info in her grasp. It was unlimited, ranging from the contact library to his personal interests gleaned at through the picture gallery, browser history and message backlog. In a sense, he was standing before her butt naked. Defenceless. Absolutely wide open.

But to what avail you may ask?

The short buzz of the vibration in canon with quick ring of a tone would reveal the answer.

「HELP. OFFICE.」

Originally all she had intended to do was await any incoming message, replying in a manner befitting her own crude sense of humour. Actions that would be sure to satisfy her sadistic thrife for enjoyment.

This, however, lead to a whole new world of realisation. She smiled while toying a strand of her wavy hair. From the beginning on she had felt that something about what that boy had told her was fishy. She didn’t know exactly what it was, but certainly he had been hiding something. Now, taking just a tiny bit of interpretation to make a wild guess, she felt like she had stumbled upon something really good.

Blindly taking a note from her purse and dropping it onto the table, she would sit down the cup on the table and get up from her seat, not minding how abruptly her leisure time had come to an end. This seemed to be more than worth it, after all. Yes, if she her nose was anything to rely on, true fun was just up ahead.

Humming a joyful tone, Mugino Shizuri set out onto her path

She found herself crouched under the desk, begging her body to stop trembling in case her quivering somehow gave her away. The pounding of her heart in her chest felt like the beating of a Taiko drum, hammering in her ears with deafening volume. So loud... Why was she so loud? Between the panic and the running she wanted to gasp and huff and pant but instead she clasped her hand to her face, trying to force herself to take small sips of air. In her other hand the small plastic slip of the USB was wedged tightly into the crease of her palm.

Footsteps.

She thought she heard footsteps. Right beside her. Footsteps right next to her hiding spot! They stopped. Painful moments crawled by.

More footsteps. Fading away this time.

Then silence.

Uiharu Kazari didn't know how long she had been hiding. But she waited until she could bear it no longer and slowly peered her head out from under the desk. Her eyes searched the darkness around the desk.

Nothing. The relief that she felt was crisp and refreshing like ice cracking, causing her body to relax.

Then she felt it. The creeping shiver of an unwanted gaze upon her. The dread made her not want to turn but also made it impossible not to. The black shrouded figure loomed over her, standing atop the desk. She leapt away as though stung, scrambling back on her behind until she felt the wall behind her. There was nowhere to run now.

The Masked Man seemed to glide from the desk like a spectre.

"Hand it over." That menacingly soft voice uttered insistently.

The signal had been sent. And though Uiharu Kazari had been quick to cover her tracks she could not undo what had been done.

In an unseen corner of Academy City there was a quiet room whose occupants were diligently monitoring and filtering various information channels. Banks of screens and agents working in quiet concentration. One such screen flashed in an alert and its operator placed a hand to her headset, relaying the information to an unseen overseer.

Elsewhere a middle-aged man sat alone in an office overlooking the cityscape. He steepled his fingers thoughtfully and a grim smile spread across his thin lips.

The signal had been sent.

***

Miyako's phone would buzz loudly.

"Hisakawa Miyako. You have new orders." The voice on the other end didn't wait for her to answer before calmly relaying their demands in a professional and clinical manner. She and her 'team' were to retrieve a certain item from the custody of a local Judgement office. It seemed like a trifling request at first. Hardly a mission requiring their expertise. Under most circumstances, it would probably be considered overkill to send them on such a sortie, akin to exterminating a rats nest with a rocket launcher. And yet the voice on the phone was adamant that they engage with the utmost caution.

"We believe that there are a number of hostile elements also mobilized to acquire this highly sensitive material. Expect heavy resistance."

The item to be 'acquired' in this instance was a USB flash drive containing valuable research material and other information.

"Be aware that this request comes directly from a member of the Board of Directors. Refusal is not an option."

As if to emphasize the following statement the voice paused for a beat.

"And the cost of failure will be high."

Post  Hujisaka Natsumi Mon Dec 31, 2018 7:20 pm

Hurried footsteps raced through the deserted streets of the 2nd district; a place she would rarely ever visit if not for having been dragged there by the authorities for her various troublemaking.

A confusingly urgent order had been assigned to her, considering the location: a run-the-mill Judgement office. Natsumi was uncertain as to whether she appreciated these new occurrences or not, but for now, she had no choice but to go along with them.

(…The Board of Directors, huh. What’s up with that? They’ve never gotten so personally involved in matters before.)

She’d take oddly out-of-the-way roads to her destination as she thought. and the more she walked, the less she understood why the higher authority of the city would get involved. Why was she going such a roundabout way, though? It seemed to be due to a certain boy having decided to persistently follow her; not that she minded involving outsiders, but she found this boy to be pesky at best.

Hoping she’d finally lost the white-haired dunce for good, Natsumi finally arrived at the desired location; a building she felt somewhat familiar with for a reason she couldn’t quite pin yet. It was, for the moment, a fairly silent place but the girl had full awareness of the fact that a mess beyond belief would begin once she took the first step in.

And thus, she did.

It was strange to say the least. While Koyoko and Natsumi had no real idea of what to do about the package, or the whereabouts of the beam girl and the masked man. After a short phone call, Miyako muttered something to Natsumi and she left in a hurry. So much so though Koyoko was being left behind.

At least that would've been the case if Koyoko hadn't used his powers a little to keep up and maintain speed and maneuverability. Natsumi took really strange routes upon learning where her destination was. A judgement office in the 2nd district. And with no people around, Koyoko was more inclined to use his powers.

'Hmmm, maybe she has terrible sense of direction? That is a possibility. But she'll probably get mad if I say that..'

But with that thought, Koyoko had become confused and somewhat deep in thought. Natsumi looked exactly like that girl who ran off to fight that strange man with bizarre powers. The same girl who also smashed his phones...In fact a lot of weird stuff happened that day. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to bring up anything about that day. It was obvious the girl didn't even know him, and her personality is completely different.

'Maybe she has two personalities and randomly goes from kind and gentle to total bitch in 5 seconds flat? Well whatever...'

Eventually, Natsumi stopped looking at the judgement building, and Koyoko decided it was his cue to jump down from the nearby rooftop. Generating wind under his clothes and feet, he hovered slowly to the floor several feet behind Natsumi. An annoying reminder that her roundabout way to getting here didn't seem to work, nor did Koyoko seem to really notice. The only thing he did notice is that she was planning to break into a seemingly closed Judgement building out of no where.

"...I feel like a need an explanation for this..." Koyoko muttered quietly as he watched her sneak in, while he decided to stand by the door and watch.

Timing was something highly appreciated by anyone with at least some sense of artistry. Killing your prey could end up like an overly plain scenario without even the tiniest hint of joy involved. Doing it the proper way, however, demanded for you to enter its vision right on cue.

A perfect example of such timing would be a scene where the target was just about to grasp their desire in the shape of a USB flash drive held by the target of their own, only to be possibly struck by the lethal beam like projectile of the true hunter.

Something like that.

In fact, that was what Mugino Shizuri so carefully attempted, firing at the shadowy figure immediately after she had entered the Judgement office.

«Catch!»

She had been the first to arrive, not knowing about the others. But given the fact that she had been just close by she had certainly held some sort of field advantage. Still playing with that boy’s phone her hand was clinging to she had simply made her way through the main entrance door by melting the lock open just in case. By nature until there she had been sneaking around, monitoring the situation with care for the sake of understanding the terrain as well as the on-goings.

All for just her shot to be fired.

«Harassing little girls now, are we? Really, you’re some really big sicko if that’s your tastes.»

Speaking cockily as though the previous night’s events hadn’t left a dent on her or her pride she would prepare to fire the next round just in case.

The signal had been given. The race for conclusion had begun. After all, that beam’s effects would have been clearly visible to anyone on the outside, no matter if she had hit or not, had each of those attacks easily held the nature of piercing through any matter in its way…be it the flesh, furniture or building walls.

[?] A Certain Masked Man - Page 7 Empty Re: [?] A Certain Masked Man

Post  Oda Taichi Mon Jan 28, 2019 2:41 am

It had taken some time, but Oda had finally made it back to his own branch. At this time it seemed to be empty, the others were probably out on patrol. He honestly didn't know what he was doing here as some sense of intuition he felt there was a reason. But the stubborn minded attack dog had thoughts on his mind on what to do next.

His experience with a certain demon lady was an eye-opener, though the young lad couldn't just leave things alone. He was already too deep in these events and he couldn't just let that psycho run around with his phone. Though maybe that was a lost cause as he was truly outmatched in a game of superpowered and highly trained individuals.

He was a judgment officer, the boy an absurd stubbornness and can fight. Though against anyone trained to the level he witnessed the previous night, he might as well be dirt.

"Right!" Taichi said with clarity, the boy had thought he probably needs to warn Uiharu about the demon lady, but it would be foolish to simply head back to that branch just after encountering that psycho. All he knew the person could be following him to this branch right now. He couldn't be certain and she could be walking right into this branch just now...

He paused and looked towards the door when he had those thoughts.

"Maybe not." Taichi said, with obvious relief.

He would then turn towards his desk in the corner and approach the computer he often used to help with his duties. It was his own personal space and there were signs he often used it. Textbooks with his name on and even his gloves he used for when he had to get his 'hands dirty.' Oda taichi had thought about warning Uiharu through email since he knew that sending a message by that method wouldn't show up as a notification on his phone, so it could slip past the demon lady's notice.

Of course, should she respond it would, but he could mention in the email not to respond for that reason? It was the less risky way, but warning Uiharu would give her time to probably seek help from her more capable friends. It was no secret that she was friends with the famous 'Railgun' and would probably be safe if she went to her for now.

Having thought of this he would access the computer and onto his log-on. He didn't expect anything but as his computer accessed his account on the system, there was a message notification on his computer. It was then he realized his computer was connected to his phone, something so simple and common that even the entire world had similar software. He should've thought about this when he lost his phone, it was similar to a smart phone's find the phone programme. Not only could you use it to locate a lost phone, but you could also reset it or delete its content from the computer.

That would solve the problem of a psycho holding his phone hostage. But that was his concern right now, but the message that appeared.

「HELP. OFFICE.」

He immediately stood up from the computer desk seeing it. It was coming from Uiharu's phone and that had disturbed Taichi to his core. Everything that had happened so far had flashed before his eyes, the fear he felt when he confronts that demon lady had only made him shake as he realized that she would've gotten this message also.

There was no doubt about it, there was no need to think about it. This foolish dog in judgment was frightened of the prospect of facing that psycho again, but he was loyal to his friends and he made a promise.

"Thank you Uiharu-san, you've always been the more sensible one. I do owe you a favor for this so whenever you need help, just ask."

His own words replayed in his mind as he knew what he had to do.

But how? He was outclassed in every way possible.. he had thought as reached into a drawer on the desk to pull out a USB.

It was one of his USBs that contained digital copies of manga. He would look at it for a moment before having an idea, this idea would spure him into action. He would active that deleting function on the programme connected to his phone, which would wipe its information aslong it remained connected.

The psycho lady would have to remove the battery to stop it happening.

Though hopefully, she wouldn't notice.

a sense of realization he would press the delete function on the programme that connects his computer to his phone. Sending the signel to wipe his phone as long it was on and connected.

He then let it run as he went to grab his gloves and head out the door to go back to Uiharu's branch. Though before he reached the door he stumbled as the pain in his ankle shot to his brain like a reminder of what he was going to face. His face filled with anguish and fear though it overlapped with anger as he remembered Uiharu was in danger.

"I'M COMING UIHARU!" he shouted as motivation as he runs out the door with one destination in mind.

There was no turning back, he will get Uiharu out of this situation even if it killed him.

Near the 177th Branch of Judgment

He would be late to the party, but he would arrive near the building not long after Mugino had entered the scene. He would approach carefully to scope out the situation, he needed to know what was happening before he could act.

There was no certainty that handing over the device would grant her safety and part of her felt sure that should she hand it over he would kill her anyway. But what was certain was that if she continued to refuse her life was definitely forfeit.

And yet, despite her fear, despite the very real and very close threat of death that stood before her, Uiharu Kazari did not extend the hand that clutched that small item.

Her bravery surprised even her. It was a small comfort as she faced her impending doom.

She hoped it would be quick, at least.

The Masked Man stopped abruptly, his head snapping towards the door of the office.

The click of the door's handle had been quiet, but in the deathly silence of the empty office, it had apparently been enough to warn him of the other approaching. There was no hesitation in his movement as he hurled himself aside.

"Catch."

The beam cut through the space that the masked figure had occupied less than a fraction of a second ago. It continued, melting through the wall beyond and streaking off into the night. In response, a wire coiled around the door handle with a snapping whir. A sharp tug yanked the door closed suddenly, slamming it into the young woman's face with full force.

The door struck with its full force, had it been impossible to anticipate its sudden movement in the darkness of the night. However, what it hit wasn’t the beauty’s face, but her right under arm, had that one been stretched out just a moment ago when it had served as her physical targeting support. Ironically, even though it had served as some sort of shield, the sound of the impact spoke volumes of just how hard it had been.

It hurt, but only just a bit. Pain could be converted into fuel after all. Fuel for her desire to crush the enemy.

Thus, what had been a solid door just a moment ago, would immediately begin to decompose right after the impact. Not wasting a moment, the #4 had proven her rank among the Level 5s by invoking her ability yet again, this time causing the green light that was the Meltdowner to eat away at all external matter in contact with her body, or rather the door that had been boldly utilized as a weapon.

However, she wouldn’t waste the advantage she currently held. She wouldn’t move a single inch, remaining still in the door frame, gathering orbs of instantaneous destruction around her deceivingly frail form.

«Aren’t you growing tired already? Always relying on the same cheap tricks. Sneaking. That wire. Don’t you have something else up your sleeve?»

She was speaking in surprising calm, still remaining standing. Her eyes were darting across the office space unveiled by the artificial light she had created. The Meltdowner could act as both a weapon and a powerful source of light after all. As such it could be utilised to defend against any incoming attacks and reduce the darkness to be exploited by her enemy. For once she wouldn’t dare to take the first strike, but remain cautious, inviting that mystery man to make his move.

This time, not being as naïve as to underestimate them.

[?] A Certain Masked Man - Page 7 Uiharu10
Uiharu Kazari had been like frozen until a moment ago. When that masked assailant had moved close to her, she had given in to the horrors she had expected to consume her right about then. But when that beam of green had force him to let go, she immediately was knocked out of her trance and knew: This was her only chance!

She’d move immediately. But where to? The office was dark, only illuminated by the green light surrounding the figure of a woman standing in the door frame and the red and orange emerging from the scorched surface surrounding the gaping hole that had been blown into the building. That gaping hole had easily torn through the office walls. Would it have done the same to her attacker if it had actually hit? She didn’t wish to have that image manifest in her mind, but it clearly revealed their intentions nonetheless.

Both of them were murderers.

Being on the lower end of the food chain, she had to escape the situation.

Her legs had already begun moving, carrying her to a nearby shelf to take visual cover, both hiding from the light and all other vision. Still, her heart was pounding and her breath heavy. It wouldn’t take them long to find her. None of them. But she had to make it out of there.

The power is cut. I can’t call Anti-Skill, Shirai-san or anyone else to help me. I don’t know who those two are, but they seem to be out for each other. Are they both after that flash drive? Is it that important…?

There was no time to ponder any longer. Her resolve had been clear from the beginning. She had to act.

And she did immediately by leaving her cover and moving in front of the big hole, exposing herself openly to that second assailant.

«He…he is after me! Use me as yo-your ba-bait!»

There was no telling if it would work out, but she didn’t have any other options. Those two were clearly enemies. One was hunting for the other, who was hunting for her – or rather the USB flash drive she had. Going by the brutish approach of the laser beam woman she likely did not know or care about the flash drive. But would she possibly care about a good for use bait? It was crazy, but at this point everything else would lead to her demise.

Therefore, the only way out was using her guts and charge right through.

Her eyes were fixed on that crazy woman.
