Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
The sound of metal colliding with metal, concrete, and plastic filled the alleyway. Somewhere amidst all this noise, the screams of Hirashi’s foe could rang out, completing this symphony of destruction, but before he could reach the conclusion of this piece, a pec-
Thonk!
Unheard and unseen (as always) Miss Scary Eyes showed up and brought about an unexpected end to the conflict with the aid of a glass bottle.
«Stop.»
The abrupt interruption sent Hirashi’s thoughts into disarray, and the hail of metal ceased as suddenly as it began. Surprised by miss scary eyes’ unanticipated appearance, Hirashi attempted to look up at the shinobi before collapsing sideways from the aftereffects of the wallop he had received.
«I still have use for him.»
“Ah, its…”
Hirashi opened his mouth to address the girl standing over him, but realised that he does not even know her name or what she even looked like exactly. Half driven by curiosity and half driven by the practicality of knowing his opponent, Hirashi squinted upwards to try to get a better look at her face.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
"You're still on the clock."
«My my my, Aiko-chan. This is no time to slack of~! Or do I have to remind you of the consequences~? I’d rather not, but I believe it helps people understand the value of a state of safety earned by means of hard work ♡»
Where as Natsumi's response left Aiko unfazed, Ai's response had her sitting straight up and attentive faster than seemed possible. Aiko was not someone easily intimidated by just words, however there was something about Ai that terrified her to no end. At least, when it seemed she was mad. Otherwise she felt almost pleasant to be around, well, as much as someone could while being your boss.
Aiko was still groggy when the conversation has begun, however she was listening as intently as possible now. From what it sounded like these drugs were a kind of mind enhancer and they were trying to find the source. The ambulance they had just been investigating had just come from that source.
«The question is: Where did it come from? And how do we figure that out?»
After a moment of thought, Aiko chimed in with a potential solution.
"Since these drugs are being carried on ambulances, Mizushima hospital probably has GPS records of where they've been recently right? Even if they're cleared regularly they probably have 2 weeks back. Police tend to require that kind of thing. If not that, if we track down the driver, even if we can't get him to talk, his phone might have it's GPS records."
Afterwards, Aiko let her curiosity get the best of her and inquired further on something mentioned that peaked her interest.
"Also you said these drugs were mind enhancers and the maker makes things for military use... Are these drugs trying to increase the level of espers?"
Aiko had of course heard rumors of various drugs, devices, and other sorts that were supposed to help increase your level, but this was the first time she'd been presented with any evidence that these could indeed be real.

«Kisaragi Anko.»
Just like that she would complete his sentence. There was no reason for her to do it. No gain. Actually it could have very well amounted more to loss. However, she still did it oddly enough. Did she expected his name in return?
Slowly moving across the alley and passing the boy, that average girl in a bordeaux tracksuit would find her way to the collapsed Anti-Skill officer. Upon arrival she would immediately kneel down to check out his body and the damage he had received. He had taken a good one at the hands of the boy, but nothing all too lethal…yet.
«You shouldn’t do things like that. One step more and you would have strayed too far off the simple path. I know it most likely doesn’t amount to you all too much in your current state. But once you’ve crossed the line, regret will come chasing you eventually.»
Strangely enough the way she spoke sounded entirely annoyed.
Tracing her fingers across the man’s body to check for vital signs, she would not even bother to turn around for the sake of facing the boy she had just saved.
«Why were you this stupid to meddle with these affairs in the first place? Do you value your life this little?»
And yet, ignoring all that oddity of her casual annoyedness, it was almost as if there was concern buried underneath.
«Very good Aiko-chan~! It could very well be that there is GPS information somewhere in the hands of Mizushima hospital or with the driver ♡ Investigating either of them could very likely turn up some new clues ♡»
Some people were strange. Just a moment ago Aoki Aiko had been scolded only to now receive praise for her bettered position. How it had come to this, however, was even stranger. The girl on the other end of the line clearly had been rooting for them to pick the right string to draw, already having an advanced awareness of the present conditions of the playing field. After all, she herself would even prove that by immediately adding new imagery to be displayed on the small screen. This time around it would contain the address information of Mizushima hospital as well as a cut short dossier of the driver in question.
«You’re quite lucky guys ♡ After all, Nishijima Takahiro is currently being hospitalised in that very Mizushima hospital. So whichever path you choose, all roads seem to lead you there ♡»
Was it just pure luck or actually a logical conclusion born from these events? After all, it wasn’t all too far fetched for people with secrets to ensure for them to be sealed. One way in this scenario could very well be preventing the injured courier from talking to anyone on the outside of the facility by keeping him within the confines of a finely crafted security net.
Still, one thing had been left unanswered.
«Ahahaha ♡ What do you think of this city? Not even Academy City could just like that use children for military purposes. No no no. These enhancers were made to be consumed by proper soldiers. I heard this stuff can turn you into a real monster, but only if you’re strong enough to endure it in the first place ♡»

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
This was different but not unwelcome. Surely fighting three ruffians in a shopping mall was something the pirate alpaca hadn’t expected this much thrill of, but not it was becoming truly interesting. That one boy stepping forward with what amounted to a flaming sword in his hands, would change his perception of the situation once more. Yes, this was quite rewarding.
«Hooo? A sword fight? Now that is what I call the most interesting. How could I hold back in face of this challenge?»
Immediately he would assume a stance usually used in a western form of swordsmanship.
«Do fear, however, as you have no idea who it is you are challenging. I am no fool who is boldly flashing a blade just for the thrills. No. I truly am not. Standing before you is the captain of Souhoku High School’s fencing club!»
This declaration was filled with all of this mascot character’s pride. Masks no longer had any value in face of that. Laying his cards bare that fluffy furred pirate would accept the challenge, preparing the means necessary to bring his opponent to his knees.
And he wouldn’t hesitate.
With the speed of a top athlete he would close the distance to the flame sword wielding delinquent in the blink of an eye, striking immediately. This time his target was the boy’s torso. The way he struck made it more than clear that he saw no obstacle in the path of his blade, as though it would cut to any and all things. An assumption that would turn out to be highly accurate. After all, the scimitar in is current state could even slice a thick concrete wall like butter.

«Kisaragi Anko»
The way which Miss Scary Eyes gave her name was casual, almost like an off hand remark. Hirashi was surprised that she gave a name, even if there was no guarantee it was real or not, he half-expected her just to ignore him and walk on about her own business.
“Saito Hirashi”
Putting a hand on his chest, Hirashi gave his name in return, completing the ancient ritual of first encounters, a few encounters too late.
Miss Scary Eyes then proceeded to ignore him and walked on about her own business.
Hirashi’s eyes followed Miss Scary Eyes, or rather, Kisaragi Anko as she went to the person dressed as an antiskill officer and checked his vitals. He had not noticed it before in the heat of the moment, but now things have cooled down somewhat, Hirashi could see that he had done a pretty penny of damage to not just the man, but also the surroundings. The unrefined blasts from his nails did little damage individually, but there was a lot of them to make up for their lack of power.
«You shouldn’t do things like that. One step more and you would have strayed too far off the simple path. I know it most likely doesn’t amount to you all too much in your current state. But once you’ve crossed the line, regret will come chasing you eventually.»
Kisaragi Anko’s next words mirrored Hirashi’s thoughts. Hirashi had always had an interest in watching people, observing their daily and not so daily routines. However, he had never seen or been the cause of someone’s life being extinguished. Hirashi had often read and heard how taking a life can change a person forever, but after walking on that thin red line, he feels nothing out of the ordinary, aside from being extremely tired.
«Why were you this stupid to meddle with these affairs in the first place? Do you value your life this little?»
“A long life would mean nothing if I did nothing notable with it, I would simply be swept away by time like everyone else. Wasted potential and unexplored horizons.”
Hirashi gave his usual explanation for everytime someone questioned his seemingly out of character and reckless pursuits for facts. Although this time he had bitten off more than he could chew, his reasoning was the same.

Luckily it seemed Aiko had managed to give the very answer Ai had been looking for. In doing so she seemed to have avoided angering the pink girl any further and returned herself to Ai's good graces. A much more preferable spot to be. It did disappoint Aiko a bit however, knowing that Ai had already considered this and had everything pulled up already. Who knows how far her information network reach though. Clearly much wider than Aiko's.

"Ah, I see." Aiko replied, nodding her head in agreement. Drugs and tools that would easily boost your level were just a myth after all. Regardless, their next task was laid out in front of them. Mizushima hospital. There they would find the next clue in their mission.
Aiko reached into the pocket on her hoodie and produced a cellphone with an excessive amount of phone charms hanging off it, Aiko's weakness for cute things on full display.
"I'll let Kisaragi know where we're heading." With that Aiko dialed Kisaragi's number. "Hi hi, Kisaragi, it's Aiko. Were our way to Mizushima Hospital. Will you be able to meet us here or should we head there ahead of you?"

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
A wave a pressure hit Nori out of nowhere knocking the air out of his lungs as his feet lost contact with the ground. For a few moments the masked villain couldn't even comprehend what had just happened. His brain rapidly began searching for something to explain what it had just witnessed. It had been a three on one fight, it should've been so simple. Sure the opponent was a sword wielding maniac dressed as an alpaca but surely they should've been able to taken him down with ease given the number advantage. Yet somehow all three of their attacks had been stopped with ease and all the calculations Nori had been running up until that point had been lost.
It wasn't until blue haired boy heard the mascot's challenge that he finally snapped out of his daze. Take you all? Did this mascot think he was going to beat all of them just like that?! Did he think it was going to be easy?! There was no way Nori was going to let that comment slide. He was the villain, there was no way he was just going to be upstaged by some freak. Jumping back to his feet Nori caught sight of the enemy just as Tetsuya challenge the alpaca with what appeared to be a flaming pole. Considering the destruction the scimitar had issued out before Nori doubted his companion's weapon was going to last long but at the very least he had to respect the guts it took to issue such a challenge after being defeated so thoroughly just a few moments before.
Before Nori could add on his own comment the alpaca had already begun his response and every word of it increased the masked villain's fury. The captain of some high school fencing team?! That was the source of this freak's pride?! Oh, how Nori prayed the rest of these so called clowns didn't have the same amount of pride or flair. He'd have to worry about that later though as the moment the mascot finished talking the battle resumed. There was no time for Nori to cross the distance between himself and the combatant but he was almost certain that the scimitar was going to cut through the flaming pole. Quickly reaching into his side he pulled out a metal canister that had been clipped to his side and his leg raised into the air as he went into the windup. The alpaca was moving far faster than expected but that wasn't something he couldn't deal with. Without hesitation Nori's whole body moved in unison as he released the pitch at full force and sent the canister flying through the air towards the alpaca's head.
"No one cares who you are alpaca, what club your captain of, or even what school you are from. All that matter is that we are going to rip you off that high horse of yours and then I'm going to make you kiss my shoes while you beg for mercy! Tetsuya, see if you can set off the fire alarm!"

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
«Tch. Only a fool would adopt such a mindset.»
That was the full range of what she found herself able to express towards that sentiment. Life and death weren‘t matters as simple as that boy made them out to be. Then again, he was just an ordinary – albeit foolish – person who should have never gotten a taste of reality.
Ultimately, that was all there was to say. Therefore, she could finally return to the more pressing circumstances. No longer kneeling in front of but the incapacitated Anti-Skill officer but seating herself atop his torso, average girl Kisaragi Anko would simply trace her fingers across his body once more, before she would suddenly ram her tensed fingertips into one of the wounds he had sustained located at his right armpit, pushing the nail stuck there deeper into his flesh. Deep enough for him to awaken from his trance writhing in agony.
«Stay still.»
Easily deflecting his attempt to fight back with his other arm by knocking it away with her own free hand, then pinning it down with her left leg, she would demonstrate dominance.
«You will do exactly as I tell you.»
«Like hell I w––aaaaaaarghhh!!»
«You heard me.»
The ease with which she was able to invoke that man‘s agony made the entire scene quite casual. In fact, from that scary eyed girl‘s point or few it may have been equal to washing dishes or solving a basic homework exercise. Thus, even when faced with the the persistent stain that was resistance she would simply apply a different technique or increase intensity. Everything had a breaking point after all.
However, before said breaking point could be reached the soft sound of vibration interrupted the funny play, causing the girl to immediately remove a flip phone with a charm from a certain male idol‘s most recent merch collection attached from her tracksuit‘s pocket, bring it to her ear and answer the call.
«Yeah? … I don‘t think I‘ll make it. I‘m a bit busy right now.»
As if to underline her claim she would exert more pressure on that bloody mess around the man‘s armpit, invoking more of his pain-soaked moaning.
«I‘ll update you once I‘m done here. Bye.»
That was all. Call ended. Phone put away. Back to business.
«Sorry. Where were we? Tell me everything. Why were you after us? Who sent you? Who else is there?»
At one point she may have simply breached his limit. No matter how well trained you were, being torn apart and toyed with like this was nothing you could endure for longer than a limited period of time. Especially if the person in control of your suffering was someone with expertise regarding the human body and its internal structure. Thus, he gave in.
«...PHARMACY...the person behind this...we‘re supposed to clean up last night‘s mess...originally he sent that assassin...Vicious Cycle...but he had to move elsewhere...so we were told to deal with the rest…»
«That wasn‘t the right order. To compensate, give me more.»
«Mo––aaaaaarrr!! ...OK! OK! Anyone who could know anything is a target...they use the surveillance footage of the cameras to match them with the bank...so PHARMACY and Vicious Cycle know everything they need to...to clean up.»
«I see. Thank you. Ah, right. Why did that Vicious Cycle drop us there? He clearly didn‘t finish his job.»
«You‘re not the only ones...there‘s a higher priority target still out there...»
«Who?»
«Some girl...»
«I asked: Who?»
«Aaaaaaaargh!!! Kamijou! Kamijou Touko…!!»
That was all. At least all he could tell them in his state. Therefore, she would simply end his suffering with a single swing of her hand. Yes, that really was all.
«Say, Hirashi Saito. With your foolish mindset as it is, do you actually value your life?»
Returning to their original conversation, the tracksuit kunoichi would get up from the no longer moving body. Now, those scary eyes belonging to someone who wasn‘t foreign to torture or murder would be directed at a boy who should not have no experience with either but somehow had due to a truly foolish mindset of chasing adventure where it appeared, piercing his soul as she would extend her metaphorical hand.
«Because if you do, I will help you keep it.»
Professional assassins, corrupt law enforcement officers serving as hitmen and a mysterious person holding the reigns. Whatever he had thrown himself into today, Kisaragi had decided to oppose that all in order to save this nosy idiot from the weight of his unfortunate mistake.
With everything being said and all calls ended, that inconspicuous station wagon would finally take off. The ride was hardly anything out of the ordinary, given that Japanese traffic was a rather mundane experience to begin with. With District 5 bordering perfectly well to District 1 the whole of the ride had only taken a bunch of minutes before the car would come to a stop once more. This time – just like before – a good distance away from the key location in question, ensuring that the escape craft would draw as little attention as possible.
However, even when taking the safe distance, it wouldn’t be that hard to find Mizushima hospital. Not just because it was a hospital, but because it was quite the odd one at that.
While it bore the name of a university, said university was actually located further away than necessary, putting more than a whole kilometre between the two. Furthermore, its remaining surroundings were neither academic buildings nor dormitories as you might expect from District 5, but simple storage or production facilities belonging to either pharmaceutical institutes or private corporations, making the the neighbourhood one of the less livelier.
Still, even ignoring that, the hospital had a jarring absence of human presence.
It wasn’t just that there were no people out on the street anywhere nearby, there were no cars, no noise, no sense of business, nothing at all. It was just there with its doors open, that’s all.
Even when entering all one would find were empty yet perfectly tidy hallways and a single bored looking nurse manning the front desk in your usual hospital lobby.
However, given all that, didn’t it make any visitor stick out like a sore thumb?

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
Taking pride in something as simple as a club captainship sometimes meant more than people made it out to be. After all, a club was a gathering of people with similar interests and talents. People coming from all over the world to share their passion over their hobby. Amateurs, hobbyists, the skilled, the masters and even the occasional world class monster. The people making up such a club could stem from an infinite amount of backgrounds.
Now what about that boy in the pirate alpaca get-up: Which category did he belong to? And what exactly would happen if one dared to hurt his pride?
The answer was something Kinoshita Nori would find out first hand.
The instance his dreadful pitch had been launched the fluffy furred pirate alpaca would twitch immediately, breaking off his initial attack and altering trajectory with crazy precision. As though he had seen exactly what had happened in his blind spot and fully aware of the path of the projectile, his squishy feet would make him dance past the attack with comedic ease.
However, it didn’t end there.
With the kind of speed only found among top athletes the mascot character closed in on his new target, obviously ready to swing that absurdly sharp scimitar to divide his enemy’s torso by two. And yet, that wasn’t it either.
Just the very last moment the captain of that fencing club would pull back his weapon, cancelling the initial attack, only to fall onto the floor, transitioning into a sliding movement that would launch his entire body weight – feet forward – towards the masked boy’s legs, meant to knock him over like a bowling ball the ten pins.
«Don’t underestimate me.»
And yet, even that wasn’t it either.
Just the very moment he would rob the boy of his safe stance, the next attack would follow. This time in the shape of a final swing of his scimitar as he would jump up from his sliding position. However, unlike in any previous attempt, instead of relying on the sharpness of the blade, the alpaca would use the unusually sturdy side of the blade hammering it down upon his enemy’s most likely defenceless head.
«You foolish wannabe!»
Yes, that was the pride of a true master manifesting in the most crazy display of skill.
However, that wasn’t all there was to that pirate alpaca. He had another secret outside of his crazy skill and even the Esper power he had demonstrated shortly. No, if one didn’t think too much about it, it was basically impossible to notice. Still, when you avoid engaging some enemies for a bit to focus on your surroundings the core of their secrets might become quite easy to notice.
At least that is what had happened to Kamijou Touko after she had been knocked backwards previously.
She had seen through it. And she was ready to do something about it.
«Just wait you cheating bastard! Bragging about your greatness when you’re the one relying on the cheapest tricks! I’ll pay you back for that»
No longer close to the rest of her party, the spiky haired girl was currently hurrying to the upper level of the amusement park shopping mall, determined to help the others turn the tables for good.

«Yeah? … I don‘t think I‘ll make it. I‘m a bit busy right now.»
«I‘ll update you once I‘m done here. Bye.»
After that brief interaction, Kisaragi ended the call.
"Kisaragi is tied up at the moment and won't be meeting us back here, let head the hospital ahead of her."
With that, the station wagon pulled out from its spot and started driving towards their destination. The drive wasn't long, but Aiko appreciated the opportunity it gave her to relax for a bit following their explosive exit from the impound lot. Pulling up to the hospital something felt off. They parked a bit of a ways away to not arouse suspicion, however there were basically no other cars around. Not only cars, but people too. The emptiness of it all concerned her. If there was no one around, that meant no crowd to blend into. They were attempting to be relatively covert in their actions so it would benefit them not to stand out too much.
"Natsumi, it doesn't look like there's anyone around. If it's anything like this on the inside too, then we'll stick out no matter what we do. I'm going to change my clothes so if we get picket up on camera, it will be harder for any connection between this and the impound lot indecent to be made."
Aiko's hoodie was already covered in concrete dust from the wall explosion and she had needed to use her electron shell for things other than stealth during that mission so there was a chance they might have gotten caught on camera. There was also the change that the two anti-skill officers hadn't completely bought their story and would decide to report them. Luckily Aiko had two other sets of clothes stashed in this mobile hideout. Aiko quickly changed out of her dusty hoodie and into a school uniform for a school in academy city she did not attend. Additionally, this uniform was the boys uniform for that school.
After confirming Natsumi was ready, Aiko made her way down the street, through the front doors, and walked up to the women behind the front desk. It was exactly as Aiko had worried. The reception area was completely empty as well aside from the one women behind the counter. She may be worrying for nothing, but Aiko was glad she had taken the chance to switch to a less conspicuous outfit.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for the room of Nishijima Takahiro. Do you know where I could find it?"

«Tch. Only a fool would adopt such a mindset.»
After a short and cynical reply, Miss Scary Ey- Kisaragi Anko begun torturing his would-be murderer.
The man in the Anti Skill uniform, naturally, attempted to resist, keyword being attempted. Kisaragi Anko deflected the flailing of the weakened man with ease, almost akin to swatting at an annoying fly.
Hirashi took in the information which was presented to him by both Kisaragi Anko’s phone call and her aggressive conversation with Anti Skill Uniform. PHARMACY, Vicious Cycle, Kamijou Touko.
Hirashi’s brain may be cataloguing these new developments subconsciously, but at the forefront of his thoughts was still the puzzle of getting himself out of his precarious situation.
«Say, Hirashi Saito. With your foolish mindset as it is, do you actually value your life?»
Kisaragi Anko questioned him as she casually extinguished the life of Anti Skill Uniform.
Hirashi stared at the now silent man, it was his first time seeing a dead body. He felt, nothing really; there was of course no compassion for Anti Skill Uniform, there was no guilt for playing a role in his death, but more peculiar was his lack of relief that he survived this whole ordeal and the absence of concern that he is now at the mercy of a stone cold killer. Does he value his life? The answer would be obviously yes, for what other reason would someone struggle as he did for the past few hours?
«Because if you do, I will help you keep it.»
“What’s next?”
Hirashi took the offer, as this was really his only option. He had no guarantee of a way out, only an offer of temporary safety backed up with the brutal efficiency of a stranger which might be turned against him just as easily as it is being used for him. Furthermore, despite all that had happened, a part of him still wanted to pursue this matter to the end.
He had come too far to stop now.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
The emptiness of the hospital was incredibly suspicious in the absolute most blatant of matters—it was clear that whatever they were doing here, they were no longer even attempting to hide it. And while in a way that was convenient for them, it also meant that things absolutely couldn't end quietly.
"A disguise probably won't matter at this point. This is already a killing field."
For her part, Natsumi changed out of her dirty clothes as well, but it was more for the comfort of not wearing dust-covered clothes than it was for covert operations. What she said was most likely true, after all. Back at the underground lot, they had been expected in advance. And here too, the field had been cleared in such an unnatural fashion that it was impossible to maintain even the barest pretense that things were normal.
They had prepared a stage free of witnesses, together with everything that implied. This would be the second round.
She followed Aiko silently into the hospital without any further comment on the matter, but she was on full alert, all five senses on the lookout for the first sign of danger. And following Aiko's question to the clerk, she followed up with one of her own.
"Are visiting hours even open? It's way quiet around here."
They had already been caught on the securities cameras, so it was no use trying to hide. It would be more beneficial to probe the situation, and see what the official situation was—as well as whether the clerk was an innocent patsy or something more. It was a provocation aimed to that effect.

"Oi, oi, oi, oi!"
Watching the alpaca-encased student fall easily into a swordfighting stance, Tetsuya's voice betrayed a bit of hesitation that hadn't been there before. "I am no fool who is boldly flashing a blade just for the thrills." ...Seriously? He could've at least not said it out loud... The boy was having second thoughts, when even first thoughts were hardly his strong point. He held his improvised weapon steady, ready to dodge the thrust that was surely coming, but not scertain he could trust his feet to deliver him to safety quick enough.
For that reason, the canister that came out of left field and drew the fencer's attention away was more helpful than Nori could've ever imagined. The words that reached Tetsuya's ears were even more so.
Fire alarm. Right. Uuuuuuh...
Looking around quickly with a burning table leg in hand, Tetsuya's eyes seized on a bank of trash cans. Those things had to be full of garbage – Greasy hamburger wrappers, oil-soaked fry cartons, and the like. In other words, the perfect things to create the thick, black soot he'd need to set off the alarms and trigger the sprinkler system. His comrade in blue was doing a great job at keeping the alpaca occupied – It was time for Tetsuya to pay him back in kind.
The slick-haired boy ran over and shoved the burning pole down the trash can's mouth, and a few moments later a pulse of fire would shoot out of any openings for good measure. Tetsuya jumped back as soon as it did, waving his hand to cool it down, but the trash was unmistakably smoldering, a growing plume of smoke rising from inside. Forcing himself to concentrate, he maintained the fire on the metal leg while looking around for another method to light up some other cans.
"Touko!" Maybe the girl had some pens or pencils on her? The tips of those were metal... A quick glance around the room showed that the girl and her spiky hair was nowhere to be found. Where did she run off to? Had the fact that her punch hadn't done anything prompted her to get a more effective weapon from somewhere? He could appreciate the sentiment, but right now, having a team of only two made things a bit difficult...
Tetsuya winced as he saw out of the corner of his eye the scimitar's blade flash down towards Nori's head, followed by an instant of relief as he realized it had only been the flat of the blade. Still, there wasn't much time left. At that moment it hit him.
This was an American-style restaurant.
Unlike Japanese restaurants, where a customer could always count on a pair of disposable chopsticks being at the ready, Americans preferred to use silverware. Cutlery. A knife, fork, and spoon. Even though burgers were something you could hold with your hand, there were still those people who liked to cut them in half, and those people who wanted a salad instead. Those people had to be accommodated, and to keep with the theme of Western dining, it had to be done Western-style.
Several collection buckets for that silverware which had been dirtied, ready to be taken to the back of the restaurant and run through the dishwasher, lay right near the disposal bins.
Tetsuya ran over to the next-closest garbage area. The boy who looked like a delinquent grabbed a fistful of dirty forks and, with a smirk which hardly seemed to suit someone whose hands were getting dirty from other people's leftovers, dropped them flaming into the next-closest trash can. Another plume of thick smoke soon followed, rising up towards the ceiling smoke detectors.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
“What’s next?”
The reply he had given was satisfying. After all, it did express his conviction better than any other choice of words. However, that didn’t means he would show approval in an obvious way such as rewarding him with a small smile, nod or any other cliched gesture. No, Kisaragi Anko would simply pick up her phone once more, dial one of the numbers she had made sure to remember from her past life and wait.
«We need more intel.»
Right away a strange sound would signal that the call had been intercepted by a third party. That alone told her that she had reached whom she had wanted to reach. Besides, that person would announce themselves by opening their speech in their usual annoying way.
«Oh, Anko-chan. Sharp as usual? Eh? ♡»
Out of respect for her newfound comrade in arms she would switch the phone to speaker mode there.
«So, how can I help you? You wanna answer some unattended questions, right? ♡»
That oddly cutesy voice didn’t even try to pretend they knew nothing. From the way they spoke alone it was rather obvious that they were able to tell her intentions by more than just good intuition.
However, that wasn’t enough to convince that scary eyed girl they were omniscient. Therefore, she would reply with a short summary of everything that had happened – excluding the involvement of a certain too curious boy – and all the information she had been able to draw from that poor bastard of an Anti-Skill officer slash assassin. And from there on things would start to move on the other end as well.
«My my my, Anko-chan ♡ Running into the Vicious Cycle of all people? Now that’s what I call troublesome. But what else to expect ♡ You’re the new kid around town, after all ♡ Let’s see…where do I start? Vicious Cycle is one of the most infamous contract killers in Academy City’s underworld. There’s no data on who exactly he is. At least not outside of some highly secure files. But what we know is that he is good, albeit a tad too stupidly sadistic. After all he is the kind to toy around with his victims, forcing them into some kind of death trap and leaving them with no other choice but to die no matter how much they struggle. It’s like trapping them in a parkour filled to the brim with traps only to have the entire thing blow up once you reach the finish line. In the end, though, his success rate is actually really high. Nobody ever managed to escape him. They all just drop dead either way. So you could call him an artist or something like that ♡ At least that’s what he’d like you to…»
Left entirely unfazed by that explanation Kisaragi would not change her expression even once in reaction to what she had been told just now.
«I see. What about that Kamijou Touko person? Any intel on their current whereabouts?»
«Ara~? Jumping to the next bullet point right away? And Kamijou Touko, ehhh? Now, that is interesting. Sadly there isn’t much I can tell you about them, but you might find out the things you need to know sooner or later anyway ♡ As for where she currently is: The last she was sighted was in District 6’s Mandara Mall ♡»
That was a refreshing amount of progress gained by just a few minutes of intense conversation. While she did not enjoy relying on that other girl as her main source, it was still one of the best advantages she had gained from obeying the orders of this crooked city. Then again, ultimately these orders were the very reason she had been moving right now in the first place.
«But don’t think it will be easy ♡ The entire place is on lockdown due to some hostage situation or something ♡»
With these things said and discussed the track suit girl had completed her agenda which had led her into this call in the first place. It had provided her with everything she needed. But what about the boy with her? If there was any more knowledge he desired to obtain, this could possibly be his only chance…
Being the single nurse manning the reception in a hospital that clearly had no need for a reception clerk in the first place may have been one of the least thrilling jobs imaginable. Where there was neither hustle no bustle all that existed was a sterile, clean and disinfectant smelling room that was evenly lit by perfectly intact ceiling lamps, thus making the entire area all the more unexciting.
However, all that didn’t imply the woman would happily welcome incoming work. No, judging from her facial expression as she took notice of the boy and girl couple, she wasn’t all too thrilled. Not to mind taking into account their rather impolite approach.
«Greetings, sir, miss.»
She spoke in a dry and slow manner.
«Visiting hours start at 11 A.M. and end at 9 P.M. All seven days a week.»
That standard text was all she replied to the girl’s question.
Then, without any further comment she would place her hands on the keyboard in front of her, begin typing and stop exactly 60 seconds later.
«Nishijima Takahiro can be found in room 3.19. It’s in the East Wing of the third floor.»
Straight down to business that bored looking nurse would finish that less than two minutes long interval of work this day had been forced upon her, expecting to return to her routine of being bored by the nothingness of the perfectly tidy and lifeless hospital.
And if those two would choose to continue from there, nothing would actually change. The path to the aforementioned room was as straight forward as it could get. One could either take the stair way right around the corner or the elevator. None of those would pose any issues or place obstacles into their path, were there no defects or crowds hindering their progress. No, all was perfectly lit. All was perfectly tidy. All was perfectly empty. No patients. No employees. Nothing at all. Just a perfectly normal hospital scenery as though from an advertisement pamphlet.

"Are visiting hours even open? It's way quiet around here."
"Probably, it's still the middle of the day."
«Greetings, sir, miss.»

«Nishijima Takahiro can be found in room 3.19. It’s in the East Wing of the third floor.»
Aiko smiled at her disguise's apparent effectiveness. Well, either that or the bored receptionist didn't care enough to look very hard. Regardless, it seemed like the location of their target was easier to acquire than Aiko expected. Aiko moved toward the Elevator, their day had be long and exhausting so if she could avoid stairs right now, she would.
The lobby had been empty, and when the elevator arrived, no one stepped out. After pressing the button for the third floor, the elevator rose to their destination, the doors opening to reveal a sight not dissimilar to the lobby. Empty. No employees, no patients, no visitors, just the stark white of hospital interior reflecting the harsh lighting that illuminated every shadow.
"This feels a little off..." Aiko murmured to her companion. "This has got to be too empty right? Like, there isn't a single other person here."
Aiko continued down the hall, the lack of absolutely anything causing her to be on edge. Eventually they arrived at the door marked 3.19. Aiko took a deep breath before throwing the door open and stepping inside. This day was just full of new experiences, not all of which were good ones. Time to add another to the list.
"Is this Nishijima Takahiro's room. We'd like to ask you some questions if you don't mind."

«We need more intel.»
Kisaragi’s response was as swift and focused as her character. Whilst answering him, she pulled out her cellphone and dialed a number, putting it against her ear briefly before putting it on speaker phone.
«So, how can I help you? You wanna answer some unattended questions, right? ♡»
A sweet voice came from the speakers, Hirashi understood the significance of Kisaragi’s decision to include him “in the loop”, but he is also smart enough to know that voice on the other side of the phone, although heart-meltingly adorable, most likely will not tolerate his prodding into this situation. Beneath that cute voice, Hirashi could hear a touch of malice, not unlike the joy a cat might feel before it strikes down an injured bird. So knowing what is good for him, he simply sat back and soaked in the information.
«But don’t think it will be easy ♡ The entire place is on lockdown due to some hostage situation or something ♡»
There it was, a lead.
Despite being tackled, dragged through an exploding building, and nearly shot, Hirashi’s curiosity and the desire to get to the bottom of it all continued to burn. Turning towards Kisaragi whilst picking up a few of the nails scattered about the alley, he proposed the next step.
“I guess we are up and going to that mall right?”

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
At the pinnacle of the display of crazy skill the hammer would strike and with it his first opponent would fall as well. But that master fencer in the guise of a pirate alpaca would not rest. After all it was still only one down and two to go.
«Two…?»
Before he was able to allow this thought to proceed, he had been forced to shake it loose. The sound of a siren was blaring as suddenly it would begin to rain around the area.
A fire alarm? For a second the one weirdo in a pirate alpaca costume had fallen to confusion, unable to understand what the hell was going on. Or rather why his opponent would choose this kind of action. Therefore, instead of continuing his charge, he would remain still, struck by wonder. And unable to hold his confusion in anymore, he’d express it ever so bluntly.
«Uuuuh. Hey? What are you doing…?»
Yes, there were times when not even the most stupid amount of self glorification would outlast the oddity of reality.
Until even that was torn to shreds by a sudden explosion somewhere on the upper balcony.
Kamijou Touko was clenching her right fist as she charged.
They hadn’t spotted her yet, so she must have A, managed to slip away, and B, claimed the edge of surprise.
Yes, that was her endgame for now. When she had been knocked down, she had realised how exactly their enemy had worked, had she spotted another animal cosplayer, this time a koala in baseball gear, sitting on the edge of an upper level balcony with a perfect view on the battlefield. Given they were carrying binoculars it didn’t take a genius to understand what they had been up to. That must have been the reason behind that alpaca’s ability to deal with attacks from their blind spot that easily.
So, while the other two would continue to keep their enemy busy, she would try to help them by robbing that cocky bastard of that annoying advantage.
At least that had been her objective when she had started running.
Until even that was torn to shreds by a flash of black matter intercepting that remaining path of only ten metres.
«…eh….?»
Then, before she could even process what exactly had happened, a hot shockwave would erupt from the point the unknown projectile had landed. An explosion powerful enough to tear apart the upper balcony while sending both the spiky haired idiot and the baseball koala that was her target flying.
Then, just a moment later, that flight of hers would conclude in a dull yet not that painful crash landing atop a padded sofa like bench. However, even if she’d been spared of the worst, her head had still fallen victim to the dizziness accompanying such unpleasant surprises.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
Cut, scene change and action.
«Careful.»
Kisaragi Anko had just tossed aside the thin now bent coin she had used to open the screws of the ventilation shaft in front of her. The grid had already been removed as well, offering full view on the open hole and the deep gaping darkness within. They no longer were in that back alley but atop Mandara Mall’s flower like roof. It may have had the appeal of an open space but the odd petal shape shielded the vision from all surrounding areas, except above, meaning that none of the onlookers would be able to spot the odd couple. And that had been direly necessary given that the entire space had been surrounded by Anti-Skill cars and officers watching from afar. People who were highly intent on picking up on any change – no matter how minor.
It should have been a tough job to break through that line of defence, hadn’t it been for Kisaragi’s talent as a masterful spy. But first things first. After having left the back alley, she had immediately procured a means of transport by stealing the very first best car parked at the roadside. From there on everything else had been a hellish thrill ride delivered by a madwoman at the wheel. Mad enough to attract the attention of the local law enforcement and sparking a car chase with a bunch of quite aggressive pursuers.
«This should do the job.»
…was her reasoning when she had crashed said car in question through the Anti-Skill barricades surrounding the mall that had fallen victim to a hostage situation. Then, by even simpler means she had forced the car’s gas tank to combust, making their escape craft go up in flames rather nicely. However, fortunately after she had tossed herself and that poor boy Hirashi Saito out of it to disappear in the shadows of that huge explosion and the ruckus it had emerged from and that emerged from it.
Yes. That way they had slipped past all defences with great ease, slipping from shadow to shadow until they had made it to the roof. Not the most subtle of entry points, but at least one that was hardly monitored. Now all that mattered was making it into the shaft system of the building and from there into its proper interiors.
«You first. I’ll watch our backs.»
Truthfully, she was the pushy kind. And, even if you ignored her scary eyes, there was no way you would wish to disobey – especially after having experienced her crazy professionalism first hand. Her entire approach had been beyond pragmatic. It had looked like the workings of a madwoman, yet at the same perfectly calculated and orchestrated.
«Hurry up.»
Now, all that was left was to get in and find that Kamijou girl.
«Come in! Nyaaaa~»
Their caution was answered by a weirdly cheerful voice that did not fit the calm, soothing silence of the empty hospital one bit. Hell, it did not even suit the kind of patient who had been hospitalised due to heavy injuries that very day.
And upon entering they would find it wasn’t the actual patient who had greeted them, but his guest.
Right next to the bed of someone who had clearly been in very bad shape with bandaged head and limbs, sat a boy on a small stool. Much like the voice they had heard before the appearance did not fit in with the place either. Wearing what was an unbuttoned hawaiian shirt to simple shorts and a gold chain with black sunglasses while having his hair dyed blonde, he gave off the impression of your casual delinquent.
However, what put the crown on top of everything was that broad grin he flushed upon spying on the maiden who had descended upon this dull dungeon.
«My my my! Today’s my lucky day~! Or well, yours Nishi-nyan~? Oh well, you can’t hear me! I forgot I forgot! But rejoice! A real cutie has joined us out of nowhere~!»
Unlike that creepily exited boy, the man on the bed didn’t move at all. In fact, from the looks of it he wasn’t even conscious as of right now. Was that truly what to expect of someone who was supposed to have just suffered a minor concussion and injuries?
«Now at least one thing is for sure~! We won’t die alone anymore.»
«Careful.»

«Come in! Nyaaaa~»
Something was off. That was not the reaction Aiko was expecting from someone that was hospitalized. Aiko reached into her pocket, her hand grasping her laser pointer as she stepped into the room.
«My my my! Today’s my lucky day~! Or well, yours Nishi-nyan~? Oh well, you can’t hear me! I forgot I forgot! But rejoice! Some real cuties have joined us out of nowhere~!»
Upon entering the room it became evident what was going on, there was simply another person in the room. Based on what the blonde boy in front of her just said, it seemed Nishijima was unconscious. That being the case, unconscious people generally didn't answer questions very well. At least there was someone else here that might have some info.
«Now at least one thing is for sure~! We won’t die alone anymore.»[/quote]
"Hello, who are you?" Aiko asked the blonde boy.
Her hand continued griping the laser in her pocket. Something about this boy put her ill at ease. Maybe it was the tone of his voice. It was overly jovial, with no sign of concern for the patient her was visiting. Aiko doubted they were friend of any kind and based on her own reason for being here, assumed dishonest intentions from the boy.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
Hirashi’s image of Kisaragi was a master of stealth and a bringer of silent death, someone who is well versed in the skills of espionage and is liable to disappear if you blinked.
Keyword: Was.
The nightmarish ride through the streets was an experience he wished not even on his worst enemies. The heat of the fireball against his back as he tumbled through the air lingered on his skin as he crawled through the ventilation shafts.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, a ventilation shaft… Is it actually holding my weight? Are we starring in a spy movie or what?”
«Hurry up.»
Breaking Hirashi’s internal monologue on the overly-sturdy air vents, Kisaragi hustled him deeper into the vents. Despite being unable to see her, Hirashi felt her laser gaze on his back like a cattle prod. Putting his head down to avoid the dust, Hirashi continued his way towards the girl who seemed to be the key of the puzzle and the person in the middle of everything, Kamijo Touko.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
«Who we are and what our names are does not matter in this business, doesn’t it? Even if I told you that my name was Tsuchimikado Motoharu would you believe it or would you assume I am telling you a lie straight from the get go, nyaa~?»
As he casually leaned back in his seat, the sunglasses boy only flashed a toothy grin.
«Then again, what are lies? What is the truth? A subjective perspective nothing more! Like the eternal argument of maids vs waitresses! Only that we all know that maids can be waitresses, too! While waitresses cannot be maids! So maybe the truth is superior to a lie? Man, that stuff is confusing!»
That boy had obviously had taken a liking to hearing himself talk. And as he went on and on it became more and more clear that he had lost his own point while doing so. However, labelling it as something that originated from his own stupidity was hardly appropriate. No, he was obviously enjoying himself a little too much for that. So, was it all a mischievous play to confuse the other party?
«Only thing I can tell you is that I know him for the same reasons you do, nya~! I came here trying to figure out the truth behind his accident, but turns out he was in no state to talk in the first place. But this isn’t the only thing I learned. You see, this entire hospital is in on the crime! Or didn’t you find it strange that a place this unoccupied was still in business?»
In the end, though, he came straight to a point.
This hospital had been like a clean washed ghost town. It seemed to be abandoned by life, yet at the same time had the appearance of a place that was actively being taken care of. Wealth existed but no reason for it. There were workers, but what did they actually do? And what of the patients?
However, ultimately the more important question that may place itself before Aoki Aiko was a far more simple one.
When and how exactly had her partner in crime disappeared?
The situation inside Mandara Mall was a mess.
There was no other way of describing the first impression Kisaragi Anko and Hirashi Saito would gain upon finally having left the ventilation shaft system. They had arrived on one of the upper floors. Therefore, it was easy to gain an overview by simply moving to one of the railings allowing a look down at everything below.
While the mall itself was a fusion of an ordinary shopping palace and an amusement park, having odd shops and thrill rides injected into an otherwise completely normal – just more colourful – structure, there was out of place chaos lingering everywhere.
Strange colourful animal mascot characters in cutesy cosplay were running about hectically, normal students were either running away from them or seeking shelter in the shops, the sprinkler system had gone wild in some places and loud eruptions shook the place in irregular intervals. A torn apart railing on one of the lower levels easily lead the kunoichi to assume explosions had been the source of the latter.
«Now then: How do we find this Kamijou Touko?»
And yet, amidst all that chaos scary eyed girl Kisaragi would keep her calm. She was neither fazed nor worried, but entirely professional to the end. After having gone through with that crazy car chase without even shedding a sweat her behaviour wouldn’t surprise anyone, would it?
Unfortunately, that professionalism didn’t change the problem at hand.
They had no clue about the area. They had no understanding of the situation. They didn’t even know anything about the person they were searching for.
Where to start with all that in mind?
At times like this something unexpected would often come to one’s aid. Sometimes the key to solving the most complicated problems would simply lie on the sidewalk. And sometimes it would lie amidst a ravaged food court.
«We need to get down there. Follow me.»
As had become the standard in their cooperation, the girl wouldn’t wait for the boy to agree and instead start moving right away. This time, unlike before, she would go back to the more discrete method of movement, thus carefully sneaking down the next available stairway. They hadn’t been taken notice of so far, after all.
In the end, this approach had helped them cross the mall without any worrisome complications.
Where to, though? What was the key item she had spotted in the distance?
«Wake up.»
It was the unmoving body of a boy clad in a blue tracksuit and mask. She didn’t know how he had gotten into this state of unconsciousness, but figured a good kick into his sides would help knocking him out of it. So that’s what she went with.
«Wake up, Kinoshita.»

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
About an hour had passed.
Kamijou Touko was running again. She had stopped counting the times she had been running today, because if she would she might as well lose her mind. Then again, it was a miracle she hadn’t already. Having been thrown around by an explosion out of nowhere had only been the starting shot. Ever since all she could do was run.
Run for her life.
Disaster was chasing her.
She couldn’t even spare a moment to look around. If she did, she knew nothing good would come out of it.
Even now black projectiles occasional came flying from all over the place, followed by more and more explosions. It was a miracle that she managed to evade them. But speaking of luck was hardly appropriate, given the actual nature of the situation.
These projectiles were an unstoppable force. Easily slicing through whatever obstacle or simply blowing it to pieces, they would rob her of all imaginable shelter. She couldn’t hide. She couldn’t barricade herself.
All she could do was keep running down an open path. Hoping to avoid anything possibly blocking it.

«Who we are and what our names are does not matter in this business, doesn’t it? Even if I told you that my name was Tsuchimikado Motoharu would you believe it or would you assume I am telling you a lie straight from the get go, nyaa~? Then again, what are lies? What is the truth? A subjective perspective nothing more! Like the eternal argument of maids vs waitresses! Only that we all know that maids can be waitresses, too! While waitresses cannot be maids! It seemed like this boy, who called himself Tsuchimikado, really liked the sound of his own voice. As Aiko listened to the boy speak she almost found herself tuning out his ramblings until a piece of information near the end caught her attention.
"Did he just say the whole hospital was in on it? It is strange that this place is completely empty."
The boy's speculation aside, Aiko was here for a job and at present, it seemed the job could not be completed with the person she needed to question unconscious. Aiko pulled out her phone and quickly snapped two photos, one of the boy and another of their sleeping target. She attached both to a message and sent it off to Ichigo Ai.
Ichigo-san, it looks like Nishijima hasn't woken up since the accident. Also there is someone else here calling himself Tsuchimikado Motoharu. He was in the room with Nishima and claims that the whole hospital is in on things. The place is completely empty. What do you want me to do?
Aiko slid the phone back into her pocket, the collection of charms on it making this process a little cumbersome. She realized then that Natsumi had been being awfully quiet. She didn't talk much to begin with from what Aiko could tell, but she hadn't send anything since they got out of the car.
"Natsumi-san, what do you make of..." Aiko cut her sentence off as she turned her head and Natsumi was no where to be seen. She pulled the laser pointer out of her pocket and pointed it at the boy in front of her, expanding her field to encompass as large of an area as it could while still leaving the boy outside it. She wasn't sure what happened to Natsumi, but if it was something hostile, she had better be prepared.
"Don't move."
The tone was not that of a threat, but more of a request. Aiko didn't see the boy as an enemy quite yet, but she was being cautious now as she waited for orders from the higher ups.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
Hirashi took in the layout of the mall from over the railings above. The whole place was a bit of an oddity, with elements of an amusement park spliced in with your everyday shopping experience. The bright and vibrant colours as well as the bold design was exceedingly hard on the eyes and wore away at an already tired Hirashi’s sanity. Unfortunately for the boy, the aggressive architecture was only the beginning of what is to come.
Strange animal costumes could also be seen from their vantage point, some ran around the mall terrorising students, others loitered at junctions and stairwells. Some were barehanded and others carried weapons. Their numbers were unknown and their identities were hidden, but one thing which all of these furry enigmas had in common was their obnoxious colour patterns and their jovial expressions. Hirashi groaned inwardly (and possibly a bit outwardly too) as these new sources of visual noise screamed at him.
On the topic of noise, dull sounds, most likely muffled explosions, shook the building at odd intervals. Judging by the existing damage to the lower levels, these were not shrapnel explosions but rather shockwaves, meant to do structural damage instead of maiming humans.
«Now then: How do we find this Kamijou Touko?»
Kisaragi’s question echoed the one he asked in his mind. It will be a difficult affair, given Hirashi did not even know what this Kamijou Touko person looked like. But it seemed something had caught Kisaragi’s eye on the bottom level of the mall.
The subject of Miss Scary Eyes’ attention was another boy wearing a blue tracksuit and a mask. The said boy was lying down unconscious on the floor amidst the upturned chairs and tables. The tired Hirashi was nearly tempted to join him, but banished all thoughts of a nap when Kisaragi gave Blue Tracksuit a painful kick to the side.
Given the state of the boy by his feet, he was not optimistic about any information that Blue Tracksuit will be able to give once he wakes up. Judging by the information he was given, it seemed Hirashi’s target was central to the events currently unfolding in this mall. The animal mascots and the explosions were the obvious leads, but Hirashi doubted the costumed invaders would be willing to help. Hirashi decided his best chance was to follow the explosions.
But it wouldn’t hurt to see what Blue Tracksuit has to offer, sometimes the tiniest detail can make or break a plan.

Re: [SS] Curfew Carnival
The same instance the girl would pull out her laser pointer, Tsuchimikado Motoharu would mimic her movement and reveal an object of his own: A gun he would nonchalantly point at the other party.
«Don’t move.»
«You, too~!»
However, even though the situation had jumped many levels on the seriousness scale his aloof demeanour hadn’t faded at all. In fact, one could say that his actions that very moment were entirely natural given the circumstances. With what their line of business was like, answering this kind of gesture with something equally threatening was the bare minimum. After all, from his point of view a laser pointer in the hands of an Esper could very well be on the same level as any fire arm, if not more threatening. Pairing that with the sudden appearance of a sphere of unknown origin surely didn’t encourage the boy to ease the finger on the trigger.
«I wouldn’t recommend waiting for orders. Otherwise you might wait a loooo~ng while! Right now nothing leaves this room. Not people. Not light. Not information.»
Yes, had she checked the status of the message, she would have noticed almost immediately that it had never been marked as read or even delivered. All there was, was a whole lot of nothing. The connection had been lost.
«I told ya. Nishi-yan and I are not gonna die alone anymore~! Cause that’s all we’re left to do in this death trap, nya~!»
That was another thing he was correct about.
Aoki Aiko would release it herself upon spreading out her electron sphere and leaning on its ability to scan her environment. Here, amidst the completely ordinary that was the floor, the walls, the lamps, the beds, the shelves and the door of the room, a single anomaly would be unveiled. Something had been added into the construction of the door frame. Something noticeable interfering with her own powers. Microwaves were constantly being emitted by the frame, paired with an adequate measuring equipment. A sensor possibly being used to track any entrance into and exit from the room.
Yet, to top even that, some tricky wire work of unknown purpose had been snuck into the mix.
