[SS] Popsicle Van (open)
A bright, oversized spark in the sky beat down slowly and relentlessly upon the people of the Academy City. The most anyone could do to deny it's existence was to hide somewhere: trying to destroy it proved a near-impossibility... though no one bothered trying, anyway.
There were, however, many ways to alleviate it's effects. Providing one of those ways was a man known for always wearing a shirt depicting the same oversized spark everyone had been seeking relief from. Stationed inside a bright orange van, he handed out various colors of cold, sweet treats to the mass gathered in front of him. At the same time, he also received various notes and coinage, returning any surplus in the same direction it came from. To the young man in the van, he may be challenging himself doing a single job, but to the masses he was like a hero that had arrived to save them from the villanous heat of the sun.
Seeing the masses crowding in front of the counter, the man could not help but smirk to himself. It may be a simple and dull job, but when faced with so many people, the man's guts just can't help but be aroused.
Still, he would never have gotten into this situation if he hadn't accepted the school counseller's words:
The pace at which he completed each transaction quickened as his guts (and his adrenaline) began to surge. The people in front of him came one after another, slowly thinning over time.
Eventually, everyone outside the truck were equipped with a popsicle in hand. Facing the door leading to the front seats, Gunha tightened his headband as he called out to the man resting behind the wheel.
"The rush is over. That was more people than I had expected."
"Good work, Gunha-kun. Want a popsicle?"
"No, it's okay. Still, I'm surprised so many people bought from us. It's a small van but you've got some crazy sales. Is it that hot today?"
"Yes, it is. You only don't feel it because I've got the air-conditioning going. Now, continue tending to the store. We'll start moving in fifteen minutes."
"Okay."
Gazing out the window, Gunha observed the typical park scene. Everything was peaceful in Academy City.
At least, it was for now.

- Spoiler:
Two men of differing ages sat across each other, both clad in white. One was the mark of a student and the other, one of a knowledge-based job.
"Gunha." the older one said.
"Yes, Sensei?" the student replied in turn.
The old man took a deep breath, readying himself.
"The reason I called you here, Gunha, is to talk about your future career. We ask children 'what they want to be when they grow up', then we make them seriously consider that question when they're older. You've more or less come to that age yourself."
"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to be a hero!"
A sigh echoed through the room, despite coming from only one person. Even though Gunha's answer was expected, actually hearing it just prompted one to sigh.
"Actually, you're already doing a hero's 'work', but that's not what I meant. You're a level 5, which means you get a bit of money to get by, but since you're number 7, it's not really much. You need to start thinking about getting real work."
"Oh, that's no problem. I'll just overcome it with guts."
"No, this isn't something you overcome with guts. Plus, heroes don't get paid in money. You should know that: no one pays you to help them, say, rescue a cat from a tree, right?"
"Well, yeah..."
"Think about it: even superheroes have a job. Clark Kent, or Superman, works as a reporter, right? It's not the most prestigious job, but it makes enough money for him to get by. Unlike him, you don't need to hide your identity, since there's nothing wrong with a level 5 walking around."
Gunha's eyes opened wider as if he had just seen a glimpse of enlightenment.
"Ooooh, so I just need something to make me some money."
"Yes, yes that's right. You're starting to see it. Putting your guts into heroic activities is good, but if you apply that guts to an actual job that makes money, you can get by comfortably."
"Right. So the question is only where I apply my guts."
"Yes. In fact, I know someone who can help you get some experience..."

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
"So...damn...Hoooooooot..." Koyoko groaned as he drudged his way down the heated concrete sidewalk. His day had been pretty terrible from the very beginning. He managed to get fired from his last Job which lasted for about a couple weeks ago. He got pissed when this one customer at the grocery store tried to demand a discount and wouldn't listen to Koyoko and it ended...with a black eye. He came back the next day told he needed to be fired in order to keep themselves from getting sued for not enacting punishment. Not laid off, but fired. Then when he got home, his computer screen stopped displaying the desktop properly, and couldn't use it anymore. The Warranty even expired three months ago. After spending the money he earned on the new monitor, he only had a couple yen left and needed a new job.
Five visits later, he still didn't find the proper place to get a job. Although Renavin sometimes asked for him to baby sit Adalia for a good price for whatever business he had to do alone, he only leaves her alone so often. And baby sitting her isn't exactly paradise.
"...I need to calm down..." He sighed, as he found himself waiting in line at an ice cream van. The line was surprisingly short by the time he arrived, probably because everyone around him is already eating the sweets. "...Hah?" When he got to the front, he see's a rather strong looking figure, grinning widely with a bandanna around his gravity defying spikes of hair.

It was hot. It was very hot.
Kazuki stood on the roof of a tall building relatively close to the center of District 6. Kazuki moved to the ledge of the building and took a seat, letting his legs dangle over the edge. On a building this tall, the wind was blowing continuously, providing some relief from the sweltering summer day. "I'm glad it's windy up here, or I'd be melting like all those poor people on the ground, although I'll be heading down there after I find it," Kazuki said to no one in particular as he pulled out a small pair of pocket binoculars from his pocket and began scanning the city looking, for a certain orange ice cream van.
On this hot summer day, Kazuki was hired by the owner of a certain orange ice cream van to resupply the van with ice cream. This way they could avoid having to return to the site where all the ice cream was stored, wasting time and losing potential customers, while allowing for a bigger profit. The only oversight on his part was neglecting to give Kazuki the route the van would be taking that day. So here sat Kazuki trying to find the van. After his search from this position came up empty he pushed off from the building. Before he started falling too fast a portal opened up underneath him. He fell through the portal and landed on another tall building some distance away. He looked again for the orange van but once again came up empty. "Hopefully this won't take too long to find," Kazuki said with a sigh.
He repeated this process a few more times until he had sat down on the ledge of one building and noticed a crowd of people gathered in front of something. He couldn't quite make it out from where he was so he hopped over to another building to get a better view. As he peered out from his new perch he could see the bright orange color of a certain ice cream van, being mobbed by a crowd of hungry customers eager to be rid of their hunger and and find some relief from the heat. "Found it!" exclaimed Kazuki a huge grin appearing on his face.

Well, today's just wonderfully miserable, isn't it?
Kerri's mind wandered as he trekked around Academy City, trying to get his daily exercise. What would normally be an hour run had turned into a relaxing walk through the City. He figured that by walking instead of running, he'd get a good workout without getting killed by the heat.
The only issue with that plan was that he was getting killed by the heat.
With no friends free to hang out with him, no work to do until he was made an official member of Judgement, and the fact that he could only hole up in his apartment playing video games for so long, this was the only time he felt going outside was actually worthwhile. The fact that he was still kicking himself for wearing his regular sweatshirt out didn't help his mood.
Wiping some of the sweat from his forehead, a flash of orange caught his attention, and he noticed an ice cream truck in a local park. The line was pretty much clear, and there were pleanty of treats that could help cool him off.
At this point, Kerri had two options. He could keep walking and finish his exercise, or he could take a break and get something cold to relieve him from the heat.
Oh, screw it. Kerri thought as he walked to the ice cream truck, Integrity be damned, I'm hot and I'm hungry.
Kerri walked up to the ice cream truck, stopping right behind a young man with white hair. Kerri had the strangest feeling that he had met him, but shrugged it off. He was too hot to care at the moment.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
Not moving out immediately proved to be a wise decision as two men came into the queue and up to the counter. Gunha's sunny grin did not change at all upon seeing the grumpy figure. Usually, this is where he would inquire about what had gotten the silver-haired man down, but the shop owner had explicitly told him to "do business first, be a hero later". No one could stop Gunha being the knightly hero, but for this job he would at least be respectful towards his training and delay his tendencies a bit longer.
"Yo. What flavour would you like?"
There wasn't any point in asking if he wanted a popsicle, since that was all they sold and if he bothered to get in line, it meant that he intended to get himself one. To keep things fast and simple, Gunha pointed to the side, showing a menu filled with various prices, names and illustrations of the popsicles in stock. Quite a number of flavours already had a magnetic "SOLD OUT" marker placed over them and while the sold out flavours did not even amount to half on the list, they were the most popular ones.
"Sorry if the one you were looking for was out of stock. We're supposed to go re-supply in a few minutes, I think."
Actually, Gunha didn't know if the next destination was for re-supplying, but considering they were supposed to hit up school districts and intercept students going home from club activities, make-up lessons and the like... They would logically go and restock before then, right?
Gunha continued pondering as he waited for the customer's answer.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
Koyoko sighed as he approached the counter, seeing the spikey haired boy smile largely at his customers, giving him unnecessary information such as what flavors are out of stock. Koyoko at this point in his melting life, he could care less which ice cream he gets, as long as it isn't completely absurd as chili flavored ice cream, and yes it does exist. "I don't know, sea-salt if you have it?" Salty, yes sweet. Koyoko felt like he's heard of that flavor before, not from real life but some game he played. He didn't continue to think about it as he wiped sweat off his brow.
When the second person approached the counter, he couldn't help but glance at him with his blue eyes, and then suddenly felt a fire build in him. It was the one, and only, Shark Face! The one who had 'unintentionally' burned his arm with hot ass ramen from his original job a month ago. Koyoko furrowed his eyebrow and sighed.
"Hey, if you see a guy with a shark like face, can you say 'you have my permission to beat the shit out of him?'. That would really be helpful at this moment." He spoke to Gunha, as he waited for his ice cream. He never got back at Kerri for what he did, and maybe this was a good opportunity for him to let him have it, but was it worth ANOTHER trip to Konori's office? Who knows. He didn't quite notice a certain annoying teleporter approaching the van with needed treats to sell to the crowd.

Walking up to the counter, Kerri scanned the list of treats that he could choose from. Over half of the menu was sold out, and the other half was full of flavors that he wasn't much of a fan of. Just as he decided to bite the bullet and ask for a regular chocolate cone, he looked to his side at the pale boy next to him.
At first he was just interested because he said something that reminded him of a game he one played, but the anger he saw in the youths eyes confirmed one fact for Kerri-he had definitely met him before.
That, or some of the kids were freaking out because of how he looked, and this guy was mad at Kerri for scaring them.
Or both.
"Hey, if you see a guy with a shark like face, can you say 'you have my permission to beat the shit out of him?'. That would really be helpful at this moment."
Oh, right, now I remember...
Kerri recalled how he was screwing around one night and got a kid burned with some ramen. And this was the very same kid... who was exhibiting a surprising amount of self-control.
Well... maybe I can talk to him... I can't really cause a scene, so hopefully we can resolve this without fighting...
Kerri shrugged his shoulder, Ugh, apologizing... I can't remember the last time I did it without any irony or sarcasm... Maybe I should just let him punch me, that'd save us both a lot of time... Kerri looked towards the young man, who was clearly irritated.
No, I shouldn't take the easy way out of this. It won't be like that in Judgement, I'm gonna have to actually resolve problems. I should start here...
Kerri covered up his mouth with his sleeve, feigning a cough, and saying "I'll have whatever this guy's having," With his lower face-specifically his sharp teeth-out of the vendor's view. The vendor seemed kind of dense, so Kerri figured he wouldn't realize he was trying to hide them.
As for the pale kid, Kerri just stared straight ahead, trying to think of his next move of what to say to him,
Well, I hope it at least seems like I'm trying to avoid violence... if only I could do it without looking like an ass. Kerri sighed, not noticing the young man with treats

"Alright!" Kazuki said, as he stood up and prepared to head down to the van. He'd been waiting for most of the mob of people to clear out before he interrupted the occupants of the van. There was only one or two people left now so Kazuki figured this would probably be a fine time. Kazuki pushed off the building, falling through the portal he had created for himself. At the same time, a large black shadowy circle had opened up directly above the van.
THUD!!!
The loud sound rang out as the black haired boy landed on the roof of the van slightly harder than he had meant to. The portal above his head closed and disappeared as the boy crawled over to the edge of the truck. Kazuki peered over the edge only to see his favorite ramen cook staring back at him. " Oh hey ramen cook, hows it going," Kazuki said cheerfully with a big smile on his face. Only then did Kazuki look slightly past Koyoko to see the one and only... what was his name again? Kazuki couldn't remember, but he did remember what he gave to him. "Oh, and megaphone guy is here too, what a coincidence."
Kazuki then poked his head over the edge of the truck to look inside the van. The person who starred back at him had very spiky hair and a bandanna around his head. "Popsicle delivery!" Kazuki exclaimed to the spiky haired person behind the counter.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
Gunha hadn't memorized the menu, so when he heard "sea salt" he took a quick glance at it himself before turning around to search for the flavor. He didn't see it at all on the menu, but since he didn't have much time, Gunha had to prioritize speed in his service.
Hearing the comment about beating up a shark-face, he didn't even need to turn back. Being the one behind the counter, he'd already seen a male of similar descript approaching. Was that why his customer was having a rough time in life? Gunha couldn't be sure, but he'd at least speak first while he was still searching.
"I don't know what he's done to you or what kind of revenge you seek, but that guy is probably right there. If he's really wronged you and you must get back at him, at least have the guts to do it yourself."
Pulling out a single stick of milky white popsicle, he heard another voice asking for the same flavor indirectly. Gunha acknowledged him with an "Okay." as he took a second out for the new customer.
Before he could hand it to them, though, a loud thud from above startled him. Of course, Gunha never let go of the popsicles, overcoming his surprise with his guts. He'd still hand them over, but by the voices, whoever was above Gunha knew the two customers in front of the counter.
That's when he showed his face and identified himself as the man delivering their supplies. Instantly, Gunha broke into his signature grin again.
"Great! Sorry to make you come out all the way here, though. Didn't think you'd know these two customers either. Small world, eh?"
Gunha never even considered how the deliveryman would get the popsicles into the van. After all, with the kind of guts this black-haired deliveryman had to make such an entrance, there shouldn't be any problem, right?

Kerri just gave the young man a dull glare as he gave the pale young man permission to start a fight in front of his own ice cream truck.
Gee, thanks pal. I don't know if I want to hit you for ratting me out, or for being just that honest...
Kerri looked to his side. It was now or never.
"So..." Before he could go on, another unexpected visitor showed up,
"Oh hey ramen cook, hows it going. Oh, and megaphone guy is here too, what a coincidence."
Huh... weird. Well... maybe I shouldn't try too hard. If I make an effort to show kindness, he may not hate me nearly as much as most people I know. I mean, I've done way worse anyway.
"Hey, funny seeing you both here. I'm doing fine, I was just about to treat my new friend here to some ice cream! As a... start to my apology." Kerri said, kicking himself for the 'friend' comment,
Guh! Should have rehearsed that in my head!
"And while I'm fixing burnt bridges, I figure I might as well build new ones! Hungry for one of those ice creams you brought over mister... um... uh..." Kerri looked back and forth between the two young men,
Right, I don't know their names...
"I'm Kerri, nice to meet you guys... oh, and, uh, sorry. About the stew." Kerri said, tacking on an apology to the pale young man.
Now I know why I never apologize, I suck at it! Forget about this kid hitting me, I feel like smashing my own skull against a wall...
Kerri just gave the young man a dull glare as he gave the pale young man permission to start a fight in front of his own ice cream truck.
Gee, thanks pal. I don't know if I want to hit you for ratting me out, or for being just that honest...
Kerri looked to his side. It was now or never.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
Koyoko sighed deeply as he felt his mood plummet once the idiot duo from the ramen stand showed up. Though he didn't hate the teleporter as much as he hated Kerri. His burns have healed completely and the gunshot wound was healed for the most part so he should probably let it go for now.
"I don't care anymore..." He grumbled, not even looking up the guy on the roof. Why did these two have to show up now of all times? Can't his bad luck run off on him for one day...no screw that, a year. Koyoko turned his attention back to the menu, and tried to pick out a flavor. There was nothing in particular he liked honestly, since he wasn't a real ice cream fan. He was just in the mood for it.
"Can I just get Mint? From what I'm guessing, the rooftop commander up there has what you need?" He pointed up to the man with the delivery box. In fact why did anyone allow him to carry anything at all? He seems very unreliable considering he was on the van roof in the first place. "And my name is, John Smith, have you forgotten arleady?" Surprisingly enough, he was still using the fake name as his cover. Perhaps Koyoko just didn't want to get attached to anyone he didn't really give a damn about. None the less, he kept his name a secret.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
As the two customers exchanged a few words, Kazuki hopped down from the roof of the van. After landing gracefully on the ground he opened a portal back to the refrigerated storage unit where all the frozen treats were being stored. Kazuki walked back and forth through the portal each time returning with a box of delicious frozen treats. "Oi, Mr. van dude," kazuki called to the to the person behind the counter of the van "where do you want me to put all of these boxes."
Kazuki glanced over at the pile of boxes, and took a look at all the flavors. A wide grin appeared on his face when he noticed the most heavenly of flavors, the most glorious sea salt ice-cream. There were many other good flavors as well but no flavor could compare to the splendor that was sea salt ice-cream. "Hey, how much would it be for like, 20 bars of sea salt ice-cream," Kazuki asked the man behind the counter. Hopefully he would be able to stock his fridge full of the stuff.

Gunha's attention shifted from his customers to the man with the supplies. First, he would call out to the man behind the wheel, still in the same lazy position he first found him in.
"Resupply is here."
"Crap, thought we could play a bit and outrun him."
"A bit cruel, don't you think?"
Sighing, the man handed his temporary employee a few notes and made himself comfortable again. Shrugging, Gunha simply took the cash then walked out the rear door to meet the deliveryman. "Just leave them here, I'll sort it out."
His next course of action was to pick out a Mint popsicle from one of the boxes and place it on the counter for his grey-haired customer. Service always came first. In return, he would withdraw one of the Sea Salt popsicles from the counter and place it back into the storage. "Leave the payment on the counter." he'd instruct the two. Surely no one would be short a hundred yen, would they?

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
"Ah, of course, my mistake." Kerri responded, remembering the pale boy's name.
Sorry John Smith, if that even is your real name, I'm not taking the easy way out here. And boy do I want to... As Kerri pulled out his wallet, he listened to 'John Smith's order, as well as the order of the delivery boy he met before.
Kerri pulled out a 10,000 yen note and placed placed it on the the counter, for their over-enthusiastic vendor without consideration for the money he was handing over.
"You heard him, one Mint flavor for Mr.John Smith, one Sea-Salt Ice Cream pop for me, and twenty of those for the big man from up above... my megaphone friend who was on your roof, not God. You can keep the change." Kerri stated without much of a care, hoping this would be a nice gesture to 'John Smith'.
Eh, at the end of the day it's just paper, I can earn some at an odd job or two. I'll just replay some old games for a while.
As Kerri took a rather vicious bite out of his ice cream, he decided to try and keep the conversation going, swallowing a chunk of the treat and asking
"So, how're classes going?"
Start out with something casual that will allow me to get a bit of information about, possibly learning a bit about his character, but not too personal so as to avoid drawing suspicion. I think I'm starting to get on track with this conversation. Kerri thought confidently, taking another bite out of his ice pop.
He considered offering the vendor help moving the boxes, but decided against it. The flow of what little discussion they had had would be totally broken if he left, and 'John Smith' might wander away before they could really converse.

"Oh classes you say!" Koyoko started rather unnaturally upbeat, before giving a bored expression and turning back to the boy selling the ice cream, putting out some of the money from his wallet. "I don't take any." He boldly stated back to the shark faced man as he grabbed his ice cream. He had dropped out of school months of ago, and doesn't intend to go back anytime soon. He is aware of that this is most likely a mistake, but quickly pushes it aside once an emotional conflict builds up inside him.
Koyoko would glance at Kazuki rather awkwardly as he went in and out of portals with boxes of delicious ice cream treats. Something about just openly using ones powers in public like this felt unnatural. The line eyed Kazuki as she kept coming in and out of the generated wormhole. Perhaps they were curious about him since people don't really get to see Espers use their powers so openly like this kid. Only in specific situations have most seen an Esper use their ability ""Are you sure you should be just using that power of yours so openly?" He questioned the hooded boy, as he leaned stood aside for other people to get ice cream if they wanted.

"Are you sure you should be just using that power of yours so openly?"
Kazuki looked a little confused at the question. Outside of the obvious he didn't see any reason he shouldn't. It's not like he was using his ability to rob banks or anything. Kazuki started to answer "John's" question, however he didn't stop carrying boxes in and out of the portals, so his words cut off every time he stepped through. "Well the way I se. .., ... ... .eally doing any har. ..... .y ability like thi., .. it should be fine right. I me.. ... ...ually helping peop.. .... Plus thi. .. . .ood source of income, gott. .... . ..ving somehow." Kazuki smiled on the last words. It hadn't even occurred to him the his words were a bit difficult to understand.
"Thanks... um... what did you say your name was?" Kazuki asked as he attempted to thank the man who had so graciously purchased him 20 bars of the best frozen treat in the entire world.

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
As the young man opened a portal and carried boxes back and forth, Gunha immediately set to work, taking the boxes and carrying them inside one after the other (but leaving the box of Sea Salt popsicles behind). When he was done carrying in the boxes, he would cash in the 10,000 yen from "Shark-face", then walk back out to the deliveryman and hand over his pay.
"Thanks for your work. Here's your pay."
With that done, he would walk back in, shut the doors of the van and get to work sorting everything out, listening all the while. No matter how interesting the ongoing situation was, Gunha had work to do, and the only right way was to go at it with guts.
Plus, it simply wasn't right to eavesdrop either. As he finished up, he heard the voice from the front of the van: "We're moving out now, 15 minutes is long over."
"Got it, uncle."
Leaning over the counter, he waved to the trio: "Thanks for the business, guys! I'll get going now. Remember, if there's a problem..." Gunha pumped his fist to emphasize his 'catchphrase' "solve it with guts!"
With a rumble from the popsicle van's engine starting, Gunha shut the counter as he was driven off to the next destination. He would obviously spend the rest of the day selling popsicles with his ever-burning spirit and guts.
As for the three, Gunha can only wish them luck.
(sorry for the long wait, my internet is seriously dying on me.)"Thanks for your work. Here's your pay."

Re: [SS] Popsicle Van (open)
Kerri gave the strange boy a wave as the van drove off. Normally he'd fun the guy's enthusiasm somewhat annoying, but the sheer sincerity of the kid made it only slightly annoying.
Turning to the teleporting boy, Kerri put on a fairly sincere smile and introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you, my name is Kerri. And this is my associate and fellow drop out, John Smith." Kerri said, shaking the boy's hand, and gesturing towards John Smith.
This guy seems nice enough. Especially with that kind of power. Normally kids with barely a Level 2 power have become career criminals by his age... or just stopped their education early in some cases.
Turning back to John Smith, his "chipper" attitude faded away and he was back to eating ice cream with the same dull expression he always had on.
Better leave that school thing behind. I can never tell how anyone feels after leaving school in Academy City of all places.
"So, are you up to something? I was planning on hanging out with John Smith today, as a bit of an apology for... something that happened a while back. It should be fun..." kerri turned back to john Smith,
"If... you're feeling up to it? I do want to make it up to you, dude."
And I still don't think that your real name is John Smith.
