Prologue: New Tree in A Garden of Porcelain. New_Sight,_Old_Land.

June 9th
11:30 PM

Silence permeated throughout the halls of Nagatenjouki Academy at night. However, in one location, there was the sound of a pair of footsteps resounding. It was the hallway which hugged the homerooms for the second year students. In contrast to the restrictive nature of the district in which the school was contained, the hallways and classrooms were much larger than those in an average Japanese school. Perhaps it was meant for the school to symbolize an emphasis on intellectual freedom.

In the sacred halls of learning, students were free to move about as much as necessary to stimulate their brains. Without some freedom, the students would never be able to nourish their specialties. That was likely the philosophy the founders of the school were going for when they made this decision.

A lone figure cradling a pair of large objects in their arm made their way to a classroom on this floor. As they stood at the door, they pulled out a smartphone from their pocket and started fiddling around. In a couple of minutes, the electronic lock on the classroom door had signaled with a green light that it was now unlocked. Slowly opening up the door, the figure made sure that almost no sound came out and disturbed the pristine silence of the empty school.

As the figure moved into the classroom, they surveyed the room before placing one of the objects in a location. With a quick nod, the figure closed something before leaving another one in plain sight on a shelf in the back of the classroom. The figure then quickly made their way out of the classroom door they had entered through, reset the lock, and made their way to the exit, leaving behind only the eerie silence of the night.

Chapter 1: Gazing into the Abyss of Porcelain. Reflected_Light.

“It really is creepy.”

“I never thought our classroom would have been hit twice with this.”

Murmurs rose throughout the classroom and coalesced into a cacophony of low humming where certain words were still distinguishable. Even from the other side of the doors and the walls of the classroom, Kohaku could discern random words that were being spoken.

Kohaku could easily fathom a guess as to what the others were murmuring about. A certain odd occurrence had been taking place throughout the school over the past couple of months. At first, it was sporadic and had really only been rumors. However, the occurrences ascended beyond mere rumor the moment it happened for the first time to Kohaku’s own homeroom. To the rest of the school, it had ascended beyond mere rumor when it became to frequent for control.

Nevertheless, it was quite strange that it was supposedly happening a second time in Kohaku’s homeroom. Would someone really want to strike twice in the same place? Not even lightning does that.

As she slid open the back door to her classroom, she noticed that all of the students who had arrived by this point were crowded around and focused on a single point in the back of the classroom: a single bookshelf that stood adjacent to a window. Since she sat closer to the center of the classroom, Kohaku dropped her bag onto her desk before making her way to the crowd.

One of the girls turned her head slightly and caught Kohaku in her peripheral vision. “Ah, Kira-san. Over here!” Weaving through gaps in the crowd, Kohaku made her way to the front where the girl who had waved her over. After stopping next to the girl, Honda Hiroko, if Kohaku remembered her name correctly, Honda pointed to middle of the bookshelf to an odd sight. “There’s another one. It’s really creepy…”

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls IAmitkL

As Kohaku looked at it, she confirmed that it was indeed what she had suspected. It was small, but not small enough that it could not be held or cradled in one’s arms. The humanoid figure was covered in a frilly pink overcoat with a red ribbon in front covering a puffy white underdress. On its feet were red slippers reminiscent of ballet slippers with red ribbons coming out from them and criss-crossing up its legs. Its blonde ringlet-curled hair was tied up with a pink, red, and white ribbon. The light from the sun reflected off its green eyes and the porcelain skin that made up its face, showing a smile only a doll could give off.

“Honestly, it’s actually pretty elegant-looking.” Kohaku retorted, leaving Honda slightly stunned.

“Do you actually like dolls, Kira-san?”

“It’s less that I like dolls and more that I enjoy things that are elegant and I’d say this doll fits into that category.”

“I guess everyone has their own weird tolerances.”

“It’s quite rude to judge people based on their hobbies and tastes, Honda-san.” Kohaku faced Hiroko with narrowed eyes.

“Blunt as always, aren’t ya?” Honda chuckled before hearing a loud clapping sound from behind her.

As everyone in the group turned around, they saw the tall, dark, and handsome class rep, Kanazawa Reiji, walking behind the teacher’s podium and crossing his arms. He was a slender man who wore a pair of glasses at all times. Kohaku could hardly remember a time when he was not. It ended up making him come off as the aloof, intellectual type who was always in control.

“Reeeeijiiii-sama!” In an incoherent and dissonant cry, a number of girls ran up to him, many with luminescent blushes on their faces glints in their eyes.

“There’s another one in here!”

“There’s probably a ghost putting these creepy things up!”

“Maybe someone put a hidden camera in there to take pictures of Reiji-sama!”

“They have great taste then, if they did!”

“Please help us!”

Kohaku could not even change the expression on her face. Because of how he came off, he became quite the chick magnet. Girls from other classes would even try to swarm over him. Even Kohaku could admit that she found him to be quite attractive. “Look’s like the class rep’s trying to calm the situation, huh.” But, there was something about him she could not put her finger on. There was something that just irked her and she could not tell what.

“Everybody in your seats. The teacher will be here in a few minutes.” He said with another clap after a short pause. Consequently, the students, love-struck girls included, all went to their seats as the day began.

12:23 PM

Thinking she could escape the tense atmosphere of the classroom by going to the cafeteria for lunch was a terrible mistake. Even if she liked the doll she decided to call “Little Berry”, the rest of her class seemed to be quite unnerved by it.

The cafeteria, which Kohaku had expected to be her reprieve from a tense atmosphere, turned out to be a tense atmosphere of its own. Despite the warm light provided from the sun going through the glass windows, the cafeteria felt quite stifled.

The doll situation clearly was becoming more and more of a detriment to the mental health of the students. But, what could Kohaku do? No matter how much she wanted to help the situation, the only option possible to end this was to find the culprit and put a stop to it.

But, Kohaku did not hold the manpower to do so. Still, it was not like she could give up on this.

As she chewed on the mapo doofu she had decided to take for lunch, she tried to ponder as she sat on a lonely table next to the window. “Honestly, I need to find a way to fix this. Teenagers’ mental health isn’t absolutely resilient.”

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Tue Nov 08, 2016 6:35 pm

12:23 PM

The troubled atmosphere of the cafeteria provided further evidence for the rumors that Nori had heard at the beginning of the day. It seemed that once again a doll suddenly appeared without explanation and from what he had heard it was the second doll to show up in that particular classroom. When the dolls had first started showing up he wasn't concerned about them as he had just assumed that someone was playing a petty prank to creep out some of the other students but now it had been ongoing for months.

If it had been a simple prank it shouldn't have lasted this long and the increasing frequency of the dolls' appearances was disturbing him as well. The dolls had to be serving some purpose, the culprit must of had some reason for placing so many dolls around the school and Nori was set on figuring it out. He also had a bone to pick with the culprit since the dolls truly freaked him out and while at first he was able to mostly ignore them it seemed impossible to avoid them now.

Especially since a week ago one had appeared in his classroom and to make matters worse the doll had been placed just behind his desk with its gaze set just off to the side of his head. As such he could barely focus in class as he felt as if the doll was watching him whenever his back was turned to it. It sounds like a silly fear especially considering the work he does and the evil he has seen but he truly hated the dolls. He had moved it to a different part of the room multiples times but it would always be moved back to the spot behind his desk the next day. At one point he had even considered destroying it but was stopped by one of his classmates, who seemed to like the doll though Nori had no idea how you could like such a creepy thing.

A quick shudder ran through Nori's body as he recalled his classroom's doll, he truly was going to have a lot to say to the culprit once he found out who it was. However, despite his avid desire to find out who was behind the doll phenomenon he had tried his best to avoid the dolls and all the rumors behind them as much as possible and as such didn't even know where to start with his investigation.

He needed to find someone who was better informed on the matter, which was almost every other student at Nagatenjouki Academy. He had plenty of people to choose from in as the cafeteria was filled with students and the atmosphere had made it quite clear a majority of them were also bothered by the doll incidents. As he scanned the cafeteria looking for the first person to ask he noticed a girl sitting alone at table near the window.

He would start with asking her, he wanted to avoid groups as much as possible since the more people involved also increased the amount of speculations and opinions that would be mixed in along with the facts. Thus the less people involved in the discussion the easier it would be to differentiate between facts and opinions, so only questioning one person would be the easiest solution to his problem. He also didn't want to deal with being questioned by a large group of people about his red ribbon eye mask.

He took the seat opposite of the girl who was sitting at the table and turned his gaze towards her. He tried to fake a friendly smile despite the fact that he was on a war path to find the culprit but it was easy to tell that the smile was forced. If the forced smile wasn't enough to reveal the fallaciousness of the amicable impression he was trying to make' his words would.

"What do you know about the dolls appearing around the school?"

He didn't even bother to give a greeting or introduce himself he just went directly to questioning the girl in front of him. He wasn't purposely trying to be rude or unfriendly he just wanted to get his answer as swiftly as possible and then continue his investigation, at least he had attempted a smile.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Wed Nov 09, 2016 11:36 pm

12:20 PM
While it hadn't happened in any of the classrooms she had been in herself, Kana had seen them in a few other classrooms.  She had been hearing the rumors and talk amongst the students, and looked into it a bit, but couldn't really find any leads on it. Many of the dolls were placed in ways to make it seem as though they were watching people, from what she had noticed. They were lifelike in a way that made them creepy to have nearby, especially given the fact that no one knew where they had came from.. It had been going on for a while now, and seemed to be occurring even more often now. The students were starting to become bothered by the whole ordeal. She understood how they felt though. Aside from the fact the dolls were creepy, there was the fact that there had to be a culprit, or possibly multiple. Who were slipping throughout the school, even into locker rooms. Whatever intentions this culprit had were definitely not for the betterment of the student body.

Based on how long it had been going on, the increasing frequency, it was only going to get worse as time progressed. As far as she was aware neither the student council nor the faculty had made any progress or anything into the matter. She sighed as she walked down the hallways. Could Kana even do anything about this herself? If she could find just one lead, things might be different. Her grip on her shoulder bag tightened a bit as she thought about how troublesome the case would be.

Kana walked into the cafeteria and headed towards the window seats as usual. It gave the best lighting for reading after all. As she sat down, and put her shoulder bag down, she heard someone trying to inquire about the dolls a table over. So I guess some other students have started investigating this as well. She pondered on it for a moment, as she looked them over. The boy seemed a little unusual, wearing a large red ribbon eye mask. He was suspicious in his own right, but perhaps he thought himself a super hero of sorts? Like in manga? Was he just randomly asking others, or was there a reason that this girl might have information?

For now she decided she would simply listen in on their conversation. If it seemed like they were actually investigating it, she would offer her help to join in with them then. She didn't have much intel for now, but she had nothing better to do. She took out her bento from her bag, opened the lid, and began to eat while listening in. She didn't bother to pull out her book, since she didn't think she would need it. She didn't even try to hide her interest in the conversation though, staring right over at the two.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kira Kohaku Fri Nov 11, 2016 6:23 am

As she chewed down another bite of her mapo doofu, another person sat down at her table, making it slightly less lonely. However, at first glance, he seemed to be a strange one. While he wore the standard issue uniform, there was one thing that was far too striking to ignore. Tied around his face was a mix between a mask and ribbon, colored in a vibrant red. It was an odd choice of clothing to wear, especially due to how long the portions of the eye mask behind his head looked. Kohaku was unable to tell what he was after with that odd choice of clothing. Was he trying to emulate some masked hero character or was he a chuunibyou?

In contrast to the masked hero motif, he gave off an obviously fake smile. Even someone like her could tell how manufactured it was. From the looks of it, he wanted something out of Kohaku. It was the only reason anyone would ever come up to another person they had never met before with a manufactured smile.

"What do you know about the dolls appearing around the school?"

That was definitely strange. Most people would have came up and introduced themselves first instead of jumping straight to the point. This kind of action the masked boy was displaying was definitely far more fitting of someone like Kohaku.

She did have to question why the boy was asking him. Was it because he happened to know that she was from the class that had recently been visited by a new doll or was it because she happened to be sitting alone at the right place and just been easier to approach?

Before she could answer, however, she made a mental note of the other girl who had taken her seat at the table. The twin tailed girl seemed to be eyeing the two of them as the boy had been speaking. Perhaps, she overheard him and wanted to see if she could squeeze out any information on the dolls.

Truly, this lunch table was being occupied with people who did not understand the meaning of subtlety.

After swallowing the bit in her mouth, she opened her mouth to speak.

“Honestly, I don’t really know much about the dolls. Little Berry, who showed up today, was the second one to appear in my classroom. Aside from that, I don’t know much else beyond what information is already floating around and the fact that everyone else seems to be highly unsettled by their now-frequent appearance. Really, this kind of think is just going to make everyone paranoid. It’s not good for a person’s mental health.”

Finishing up her ramblings, Kohaku decided that it would be best to introduce herself before she tried to let the conversation continue any further. “I’m Kira Kohaku. Who are you two?”

Really, this kind of think is just going to make everyone paranoid. It’s not good for a person’s mental health.”

His first attempt at gathering information had failed miserable but at least he had found someone who seemed to agreed that the dolls had to go. However, her reasoning for the dolls being an issue was a lot more selfless and compassionate than Nori's motivations for investigating them.  Maybe he could get the girl to help him find the culprit behind the dolls, two dolls had already appeared in her classroom already and he could use the concern she had shown for the mental health of the other students to convince her to join his search. Two heads is better than one, right?

Looking back on what she said he noticed something peculiar, instead of saying the doll she said Little Berry. Where people giving the dolls names now or was it just this girl? Did she actually like the dolls but pushed her own feeling aside for the sake of the students? No, there was no way anyone could like the dolls enough to seriously give them a name. Then again, one of his classmates had stopped him destroying one of them.

“I’m Kira Kohaku. Who are you two?”

His train of thought was dragged back to the scene in front of him as Kira Kohaku introduced herself and asked Nori and someone else to do the same. He hadn't even realize that there had been someone watching them until Kohaku had pointed it out but looking over at girl with the twin tails it was quite obvious that she had been watching them. It was safe to assume that she was also interested in the doll incident. He turned back to Kohaku and hesitated for moment before answering.

"I'm Kinoshita Nori.

He waited a moment for the the twin tailed girl to introduce herself before he asked Kohaku the question that had been burning in the back of his mind since he had received the answer to his question.

"If you don't mind me asking did you name the doll Little Berry or do they come with names now? If Kohaku hadn't named the doll and the dolls were coming with names now then maybe the name could help lead them to the culprit.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Tue Nov 15, 2016 11:46 am

She took a bite from her lunch, while listening to the girl talk. It seemed she didn't know much about the dolls after all, though it was a bit odd that she mentioned a name of one that showed up. She hadn't before heard anything regarding names. It wasn't that strange for a doll to have a name tag with it, though. She wouldn't worry about that for the time being.

A moment afterwards she introduced herself, asking who "you two" were. She could only assume that she was being included in that given that she was nearby and clearly listening in. After the boy introduced himself she did the same.

"I'm Tsukomata Kana."

Nori then promptly asked about the doll names. She had already decided that was probably an irrelevant detail, but if he had seen others without names before, perhaps he was simply curious. She was curious about something as well, however.

"Are you planning to investigate this Kinoshita-kun? You seem to be pressing for information, but is this just to satisfy your own curiosity, or do you have an agenda?" Unless she knew whether they aimed to try to take care of the situation, she didn't have much to offer to the conversation. She had little information of her own, and only had interest as she wanted it handled. As far as she could tell while Kohaku had voiced some concerns with mental health for the students there wasn't any reason to assume she was interested in solving it either. Given that Nori and Kohaku hadn't known each other, this was simply a random interaction between students by chance. It seemed unlikely a crack team of crime solvers would form up in such an unlikely way.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kira Kohaku Wed Nov 16, 2016 9:02 pm

The first to make an introduction was Nori. Apparently, he was not going to make any comments on his odd fashion choices. Well, even if it was an odd fashion choice, it was not like he was under any obligation to explain them. As much as the vibrant red of the eyemask caught her attention, Kohaku decided that it was best to let sleeping dogs lie and not to press on the subject. She would just take the opportunity to note that it was the easiest way to discern Nori from anyone else.

The second to make an introduction was twin-tailed girl, Kana. Unlike with the straightforward Nori, Kohaku was unable to get a solid read on what kind of person this Kana was. Though, this was likely due to the combination of her only saying one sentence at that point and the lack of any striking features beyond her twin tails, which contrary to popular belief did not dictate one’s personality.

After the two had given their names, the first one to speak was Nori.

"If you don't mind me asking did you name the doll Little Berry or do they come with names now?”

It was at that moment when Kohaku realized that she accidentally let the nickname she had given the doll in her classroom slip. With a sheepish grin, she scratched at her cheek with her index finger. “No, they don’t really come with names. I have kinda been giving them nicknames ever since they started to appear with more frequency. I’m a bit of a lover of elegant things so those dolls just really fell right into my alley. The one that showed up today was a blonde one with pink clothes that reminded me of a strawberry, so I just gave it that name.”

With her answer given, she heard Kana begin to press Nori. "Are you planning to investigate this Kinoshita-kun? You seem to be pressing for information, but is this just to satisfy your own curiosity, or do you have an agenda?"

With that, Kohaku could determine one thing about Kana. “Do you want to end this doll issue as well, Kinoshita-san?”

With that, Kohaku could only think about the doll that had shown up in the girls’ locker room for the second years the previous Friday. It had been less than a week, but in the increased frequency of doll appearances, none had shown up in the boy’s locker room. The lack of reciprocation must have definitely been causing some unease in the boys who would be likely blamed for such a prank. That had to be it…either that or he was concerned with his mental welfare and that of everyone else around him like she was.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Thu Nov 17, 2016 4:40 am

“No, they don’t really come with names. I have kinda been giving them nicknames ever since they started to appear with more frequency. I’m a bit of a lover of elegant things so those dolls just really fell right into my alley. The one that showed up today was a blonde one with pink clothes that reminded me of a strawberry, so I just gave it that name.”

He hadn't expected to much by asking this question, even if they had started showing up with names it wasn't a certainty that the names would of had any meaning. However, he was still disappointed that he hadn't seem to have drawn any closer to the culprit or even gain any new information since starting this conversation, maybe it would have been better to have asked the larger groups of student. They probably wouldn't resist asking about the red mask like the Kohaku and Kana had done so far but at the moment it seemed that he was more likely to gain  information if he moved on to questioning other students. Though he still planned to see if he could get the two girls to help him out with his investigation.

Despite his failure on gaining any real information on the dolls he did still manage learn something about Kohaku. It was still hard for him to believe that someone actually liked those dolls even after hearing her say it directly. To each their own, even if he couldn't understand her opinion.

"Are you planning to investigate this Kinoshita-kun? You seem to be pressing for information, but is this just to satisfy your own curiosity, or do you have an agenda?"

His true reasons for looking into the dolls phenomenon was so that he could find the culprit and give him a piece of his mind, possibly rough them up a little for the irritation the dolls had been causing him. It didn't seem like his company would enjoy that type of explanation however and as such he needed to think of some other story for his inquiry. He couldn't say that he was just curious as it would just make it more difficult to get them to help him if they thought it was just on a whim.

“Do you want to end this doll issue as well, Kinoshita-san?”

As Kohaku began to question him as well his need for an answer became if more desperate. He had already accepted the fact that he was a bad liar so he needed a reasoning that was still partial true but at the same time hide his real intentions.

"As you said earlier the dolls are becoming a detriment to mental welfare of the students and the increasing number of appearances lately is getting out of hand. The dolls' appearances are going to have to be stopped or at the very least controlled and to do that I plan on finding out the identity of the culprit.

He hesitated a bit and looked at both Kohaku and Kana before asking his following question.

"Would you two help me find out who is behind this issue?

Kohaku had already expressed concern on the matter when he had asked for information on the dolls and  had implied that she had been planning on looking into it herself when she had asked him if he was getting involved. As such he felt as if his chances of getting her to join him seemed considerable high. On the other hand he could tell that Kana was interested in the dolls but couldn't tell if she was serious enough about it to actually join the search.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Thu Nov 17, 2016 2:22 pm

Shortly after she had questioned him, Kohaku did the same. It wasn't surprising to her based on the vibe she had gotten from Kohaku. Kohaku seemed like she might genuinely be interested in solving the issue on the account of the rest of the student body after all. Kana had similar motives, though not quite the same.

She nodded a bit as she listened to Nori's answer. It matched his hero-like appearance, though she couldn't help but find him slightly suspicious. It didn't matter if he really planned to try and solve the case, though. She would cooperate as long as it seemed like it would get results.

"I'll cooperate with you Kinoshita-kun. I, too, was interested in taking care of the matter. I cannot allow anyone to look down upon our school like this. While we should be worrying about our education, they are committing pranks like this. Am I not mistaken in that we have no leads by the dolls?"

She answered with little hesitation. It seemed as though she were even genuinely be upset at the prospect of someone messing with the school grounds.

She continued eating her bento, hoping that one of them might be able to prove her wrong on the matter. Otherwise the only evidence they would have to go by is the doll them self. As far as she knew, minus questioning others randomly, the only thing they could possibly do is hope that the dolls might be a specialty, and researching it like that. That type of research could be time consuming though. Likely not the ideal way to resolve it.

She put the bento away, having finished for now. Her appetite was starting to fade in comparison to her desire to learn more about the situation, and solving it.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kira Kohaku Fri Nov 18, 2016 6:02 am

Unlike Kana, who had voiced her approval to cooperate, Kohaku just nodded. There was no need to break the flow of the conversation just to voice her approval. Instead, it would be best to focus on trying to track patterns within the dolls’ appearances.

Finishing up the last bite of her lunch, she spoke up.

“Well, as far as I know, the dolls have appeared in a majority of the second years’ classrooms. The appearance is…”

As much as she would have liked to bring forth the relevant knowledge, she had to admit, that she really did not know too much about the locations of the dolls and where they popped up. She could only work on the knowledge that they happened to show up in her homeroom twice.

She tapered off with a frown. However, that frown was short-lived as she saw a familiar face passing near the table. “Hey, Kanazawa-san!” She said, giving off a very exaggerated wave.

The boy who walked up, was the slender glasses-wearing class representative of Kohaku’s class. To put it lightly, he was one who embodied one of the more elegant forms of Japanese beauty for men. His short-black hair, combined with his prevalent, yet parted bangs, his glasses, and his slender yet tall and imposing form allowed him to come off easily as an aloof intellectual as opposed to a smartass nerd.

If any of the student body, aside from the culprit, was to be able to give information about the dolls’ patterns, it would be someone who was a class representative or a member of the student council. Luckily for her, one of those people was someone she was relatively acquainted with. After all, she was the one thing standing between him and top scores on every subject. After all, none could best the medical nut when it came to anything biology or chemistry related. Truly, she was the one thing between him and the absolute summit.

“Ah, Kira-san. Do you need something?” The boy asked, shifting up his glasses, looking at his friendly competitor.

“Come on, sit down~” Kohaku gave off a hearty smile as she beckoned him over. “I wanted to ask you something.”

Reiji thought for a few seconds before finally capitulating to Kohaku’s request and taking a seat next to her. He looked around at the motley crew that she had somehow gathered around her, before taking a deep sigh. “So, what is it you want to ask?”

“Let me introduce you, first. This is Kanazawa Reiji, the class rep for my homeroom class.” She paused to let the other two process that information before continuing to speak. “So, have you guys been able to detect any trends in the locations where the dolls have been popping up?”

Reiji sighed again, before speaking up. “I had a feeling you’d be asking about that. This doll crisis is starting to get really annoying. The student council pulled an emergency meeting on Monday after the one doll in the girls’ locker room showed up last Friday. We had originally been worried that maybe the doll hid some sort of camera, but that idea broke down once the vice-president decided to smash the doll.” Reiji sighed again before grabbing at his shoulder and swinging his arm around, likely trying to stretch out some unwanted stress. “Well, the dolls have mainly been showing up in the classrooms for the second years. Though they haven’t shown up in all of the classrooms, it’s likely only a matter of time before they’re all hit. Additionally, they have shown up in two of the third year classrooms and once at the main entranceway.” After another pause, he looked up, while trying to recall some information. “Now that I think about it, our classroom wasn’t the first to get hit twice, either…”

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Sun Nov 20, 2016 7:50 am

"I'll cooperate with you Kinoshita-kun. I, too, was interested in taking care of the matter. I cannot allow anyone to look down upon our school like this. While we should be worrying about our education, they are committing pranks like this. Am I not mistaken in that we have no leads by the dolls?"

He was happy that he had managed to get both of them to join his quest but Kana was right, they had no leads at all on the dolls. He had tried to avoid them, Kohaku stated that she didn't know much, and Kana wouldn't be asking about having no leads if she had information. They were going to have to start out with little to no intel making the task more difficult than it could have been.

“Well, as far as I know, the dolls have appeared in a majority of the second years’ classrooms. The appearance is…”

For a moment Nori thought his previous thoughts were about to be proven wrong but just as Kohaku was moving on to the part where it seemed like she was going to share new information she went silent. Then a frown momentarily appeared on the girls face, had she decided the information wasn't relevant or did she forget what she was trying to share? Either way it irked Nori that they had come close to new information only for it slip out of their hands.

“Hey, Kanazawa-san!”

The frown suddenly vanished as she begin to wave towards a spectacled, slender student as he walked by the table. It was obvious that she knew this person well and was probably on friendly terms though her sudden change from discussing the dolls to calling out to a friend confused him a bit. Maybe Kanazawa knew something about the dolls that could kick start their investigation in which case Nori had no problem in him joining the discussion.

“Ah, Kira-san. Do you need something?”
“Come on, sit down~. I wanted to ask you something.”
“So, what is it you want to ask?”

The instant that the newcomer sighed after looking over the group, Nori changed his mind about not having an issue about his presence. In that moment his impression of the Kanazawa became one of an elitist who viewed himself to be above others. It was an incredible view to take of someone just because they sighed but after having to deal with the dolls for so long the he had become highly irritable. Despite this uncalled for anger towards Kanazawa, Nori kept himself generally composed as information on the dolls still held higher priority than small grievances.

“Let me introduce you, first. This is Kanazawa Reiji, the class rep for my homeroom class. So, have you guys been able to detect any trends in the locations where the dolls have been popping up?”

Nori could see why Kohaku had calmed him over now. Since he was a class rep he was bound to have more information on the dolls than the other students. He was a potential gold mine of information that could benefit the investigation.

“I had a feeling you’d be asking about that. This doll crisis is starting to get really annoying. The student council pulled an emergency meeting on Monday after the one doll in the girls’ locker room showed up last Friday. We had originally been worried that maybe the doll hid some sort of camera, but that idea broke down once the vice-president decided to smash the doll. Well, the dolls have mainly been showing up in the classrooms for the second years. Though they haven’t shown up in all of the classrooms, it’s likely only a matter of time before they’re all hit. Additionally, they have shown up in two of the third year classrooms and once at the main entranceway. Now that I think about it, our classroom wasn’t the first to get hit twice, either…”

The second time the class rep sighed, even though it was obvious that it was due to question he was being asked, Nori lost his ability to hide his contempt for a quick moment and it appear across his face only to vanish a second later. Kanazawa had shared some possibly value information, it was good to hear that there wasn't a camera inside the doll because that would have only cause Nori to be further creeped out by them. However, the fact that the dolls were even spreading to the third year classrooms and were appearing twice in other classrooms as well was concerning. Going from the Kanazawa's reactions the student council was having a considerably difficult time dealing with the dolls.

"Have you check any of the other dolls for cameras besides the one you found in the girls' locker room? Do you think the girls' locker room could have actually been hit twice and there's actually another doll in there no one found yet? What was the other classroom that got hit twice? Also why is there a doll by the entryway when all the other ones are in the classrooms?

Nori unleashed an array of questions on the class rep even though there of a number of them Kanazawa probably didn't know the answer to. He wanted as much information as possible and the class representative in front of him had been his only real source of it so far, even if he didn't like him. The last of his questions was directed to himself but he had asked it out loud without noticing.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Thu Nov 24, 2016 2:47 am

Kana turned to Kohaku as she began to answer, expecting to be wrong for just a moment, but then Kohaku stopped mid-sentence. Either she couldn't recall what she wanted, or she realized there wasn't a lead after all. Kana sighed, feeling a bit disappointed now. She had gotten her hopes up for only a second, but it was enough to feel depressing.

Kohaku called out to another student passing by, and Kana glanced over to see who it was. She wasn't sure what to think with the sudden change, was this to help them solve it, or just something she needed to take care of. After the previous disappointment Kana decided not to set her expectations very high.

After listening to the conversation with Kanazawa, it seemed there was a little bit of information. Most of the rooms were 2nd years, and very few were anywhere else. Did this mean that the culprit was simply most often near those classrooms so it was easier? Though it could be for that very reason that they hit the 2nd years, to make others come to the same conclusion. In reality it was hard to be sure whether that information was useful to them.

Afterwards Kinoshita launched a barrage of questions without even letting any get answered before finishing. A bit awkward, but given the way he appears in public that shouldn't be too surprising. Definitely an unusual type of person.

"Hello Kanazawa-kun, I'm Tsukomata Kana. I apologize for the bother with all these questions we're throwing your way." She didn't intend to direct this question solely to Kanazawa, turning to try to get a facing to indicate she meant everyone to throw in their two cents. " Do you think there is a chance the culprit is among the second years, given the large amount of dolls in their classrooms? Or is it more likely to throw us off the track?" Kana placed a finger to her lips while trying to think about it further herself. Ultimately none of the information they had really gave a general direction. Perhaps they would need to simply investigate the scenes again, unless Kanazawa had more information.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kira Kohaku Fri Nov 25, 2016 1:44 am

Kanazawa found himself taken back at the first rapid-fire of questions that came from Nori. He had definitely expected questions from the others, though he was far from ready to respond to the multitude of questions asked by Nori at a high pace. The worst part was that the boy did not seem to introduce himself in the slightest. He had jumped straight into questioning.

“Is he always like this?” Kanazawa asked turning to Kohaku.

With a sheepish grin, she answered, “So it seems.”

In contrast, Kana’s questions were more like a single question split into two. It was definitely far easier to deal with.

Still, it was best to deal with the more troublesome set of questions first. Troublesome things like that had a tendency to pile up if left alone. “We really only checked two dolls for cameras. The one in the locker room was a given for that search, but to widen our sample size, we checked the doll that appeared in classroom 2-C’s homeroom. Like with the first one, there were no cameras hidden within them. We did try looking for more dolls in the girls’ locker room…well, at least the female class reps and student council members tried to, and found nothing. There’s no indication that any more dolls may be hidden in the locker room according to them.”

As he continued to speak he rested his head on his left palm while leaving his right hand on the table which he rhythmically tapped on with his index finger. “Anyway, as you can probably guess, 2-C’s homeroom is the first location where a doll appeared a second time. That was the main reason why we decided to break that doll to widen the sample size. We did not want to damage too much in case this ends up being evidence for some crime. As for the entryway doll, it’s the outlier case. None of us could really ever figure out why that doll even existed there in the first place.”

After finally answering all of Nori’s questions in the quickest way possible, Reiji turned to face Kana to answer her question. At the very least, she was far more polite, so he was definitely more comfortable talking with her.

“We ended up suspecting that the culprit may have been from 2-C, so there was a search done on the class but that was to no avail. Some of the members of the council suggested fingerprints before they came to realize that fingerprints don’t come out well on clothes, which is likely where the culprit held them by.”

In the meantime, Kohaku silently noted down anything she had heard from Reiji, making special emphasis in her mind to look into class 2-C before the lunch break ended.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Sun Nov 27, 2016 5:47 am

“Is he always like this?”
“So it seems.”

Somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind Nori was imagining himself reaching across the table and punching the class rep right between the eyes. Though Kanazawa did have a point, he had rapidly fired questions at him without giving him time to answer and it seemed once again he had refrained from introducing himself before interrogating someone for answers. Kana's response to the arrival of the class rep only made Nori's actions seem even worse in comparison and he knew it.

There’s no indication that any more dolls may be hidden in the locker room according to them. Anyway, as you can probably guess, 2-C’s homeroom is the first location where a doll appeared a second time. That was the main reason why we decided to break that doll to widen the sample size. We did not want to damage too much in case this ends up being evidence for some crime. As for the entryway doll, it’s the outlier case. None of us could really ever figure out why that doll even existed there in the first place. We ended up suspecting that the culprit may have been from 2-C, so there was a search done on the class but that was to no avail. Some of the members of the council suggested fingerprints before they came to realize that fingerprints don’t come out well on clothes, which is likely where the culprit held them by.”

It was a relief that the dolls didn't seem to have cameras in them though Nori still wanted to check for himself. The student council had only checked two dolls that were in separate locations so there was still a chance the other dolls still had something to hide. The fact that the student council saw the dolls as possible evidence for a crime and the fact that the culprit had avoided their fingerprints being detected on the dolls was unsettling to say the least. There was also still the case of the doll at the entryway that didn't seem to follow the pattern of all the others.

Kana's question had also brought up an important point. The dolls had largely been focused in the second year homerooms so it would make sense for it to be a second year being the culprit. Even if the student council failed to get any information from looking into 2-C's students, he had a feeling he could be a bit more persuasive. However, for now it would be for the best to wait before interrogating other students he didn't want to end up accusing a victim of the dolls instead of a the perpetrator.

At least for now he had three places of interest to look at to see if he could find any clues. There was the doll that had been found in Kohaku's homeroom, the doll in 2-C that hadn't been smashed, and the doll in the entryway. Each of those location had an abnormality to it making it different than the rest and as such were probably the best places to take a look at first. Nori just had to decide which one to look at first.

"I'm sorry for not introducing myself earlier, I'm Kinoshita Nori. I just wanted to get enough information as I could as quickly as possible."

He hated to say it but Kanazawa was the most informed out of the group and it was better to have him around for the investigation, even if Nori thought he was snob. "I would also like to add that the culprit seems to be very particular about where they put the dolls. There is one in my homeroom and whenever I move it I find it the next morning back in its original location."

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Thu Dec 01, 2016 11:22 pm

Kana nodded every so often, while listening to the information. Most of it wasn't very surprising, but there wasn't much that could be done about that. She glanced over and noticed Kohaku was taking notes. It was a good idea, though Kana was pretty confident in her own memory. Kana shifted her position a bit, while seeming to consider the situation a bit more.

If what Nori said was true, and the dolls tend to return to their original spot after being moved, it definitely becomes a much stranger situation. The culprit would have to commonly return to the scene each time to do that. That would make it much easier to ambush or capture them. How would the culprit even know that the doll was moved? Did they return to the scene each time? It seemed like it gave too many vulnerabilities to the culprit if they so commonly return to each scene.

"Last question, were there any markings on the dolls that might have indicated their origin? Perhaps a brand or insignia of a specialty craft shop." Having never really had a chance to look at the dolls herself, she had to rely a little bit more on the three around her.

Kana wasn't sure if Kanazawa would agree to such an idea, being on the student council, but she would throw out the only suggestion she had based on what she had heard so far.

"If it's true that the dolls return to their positions each time, and the criminal goes back to the scene, shouldn't it be possible to simply capture them on camera, or wait and see them?"

Aside from this, the only thing left would be to investigate each scene. She had a feeling the other two were thinking the same thing at this point. There wouldn't be much more information to gain from questioning Kanazawa.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kira Kohaku Sat Dec 03, 2016 6:46 am

“Moving back?” Reiji pondered what Nori was referring to. “Well, they do get moved back into the position where they were found after some time. Though, that’s more the fault of the class reps. Aside from preserving the scene, there’s another reason for it. The dolls never show up in more intrusive areas. During classes, they are generally just out of sight. They never intrude enough to distract people, though some do not enjoy the prospect of something they find creepy always being present behind them.”

Stopping himself to leave his rhythmic tapping as the only sound coming from that table, he frowned. “Basically, the student council sent a directive to the other class reps to move the dolls back once they notice that they are moved out of the way. I’m sure the class rep in your class was annoyed at having to move the doll back when they came in the morning before everyone else, Kinoshita-san.”

Of course, by explaining that, he had ended up nullifying one of Kana’s questions…partially, at least.

Still, it was best to answer all of Kana’s questions. “There was an insignia on each of the dolls. We found it engraved on the back of one of the dolls we had broken. The insignia was for a doll craft shop that was centered in the School Garden. Thanks to some connections to some Shidarezakura students that a couple of the class reps had, they were able to go take a look at said doll craft shop, but turned up nothing. Apparently, the shop was popular enough that it got multiple custom orders from all over the city. They did try to trace any spikes in orders, but apparently there were none of those either. It was a trail that had gone cold.”

In other words, trying to trace the culprit by matching appearance rates with order spikes was a fools’ errand. In all likelihood, the culprit had been ordering these dolls in advance. They were likely well aware that placing the dolls was going to be a long-term affair. Considering that custom orders came from all over the city, it was likely that these orders were being mailed out, meaning it was impossible to even eliminate the possibility of the culprit being a boy.

“As for your second question, Tsukomata-san, the basis of that question is wrong, but you do bring up an excellent point. Even if the criminal does not return to the scene of the crime to move the dolls back, they could still be caught when placing a new doll. Of course, capturing them on camera was a possibility, so we tried that. However, security cameras and the cameras we placed were all missing data. In other words, the culprit had deleted any footage. As for ambushing them in person…well, unfortunately, the class reps and the student council still have a reputation to uphold. There is quite an ‘ends do not justify the means’ mentality among us. Though, we still have to keep in mind that the culprit was somehow able to evade security.”

After finishing up his answer, he took a quick look at his watch. “Ah. I’m late!” Reiji stood up from his seat immediately. “I’m sorry, but I promised to meet someone a few minutes ago, so I have to go. If you guys have any more questions for me, just ask Kira-san for my contact.” He said, before running off.

Kohaku, having finished jotting down whatever Reiji had mentioned, looked at her notes for a few seconds before closing her note application on her phone and looking towards Kana and Nori.

They had gotten their hands on all of the student council’s information on the case which meant that they were on their own from this point forward. The big question at this point was “What next?”

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Mon Dec 05, 2016 7:05 pm

"Last question, were there any markings on the dolls that might have indicated their origin? Perhaps a brand or insignia of a specialty craft shop.If it's true that the dolls return to their positions each time, and the criminal goes back to the scene, shouldn't it be possible to simply capture them on camera, or wait and see them?"

It would be useful to know if the dolls had any marks that indicated where it was made or purchased. If it did they could just find the store and find out who had purchased those specific dolls in the last few days. Kana had also made a good point about the task of apprehending the culprit, they would just need to move one of the dolls and wait until the perpetrator appeared to fix the doll's location. However, Nori still wonder how the culprit always seemed to know if the dolls moved. Since the student council had checked the dolls for cameras and found none than the criminal would have to check each doll themselves each day to ensure they weren't moved.

Kana's question also brought to Nori's attention that the culprit should have been caught long ago. The school's cameras should have spotted the culprit when they came into the school to drop off the dolls. Unless the criminal had found away to turn off the cameras or knew the location of all of them they would have been spotted and while Nori found himself frustrated by the class rep in front of him he had enough faith in the student council to believe they would have check the cameras already.

“Basically, the student council sent a directive to the other class reps to move the dolls back once they notice that they are moved out of the way. I’m sure the class rep in your class was annoyed at having to move the doll back when they came in the morning before everyone else, Kinoshita-san.”

The mention of the dolls possible being a part of a crime again grabbed Nori's attention once again. It seemed the student council was taking this incident very seriously though it didn't seem like they were making much progress. It was a bit embarrassing to find out that he had been making things difficult for his class representative without even realizing it.

It was a trail that had gone cold. As for your second question, Tsukomata-san, the basis of that question is wrong, but you do bring up an excellent point.

So the markings on the dolls lead wasn't going to go anywhere, that was disappointing to hear. He did managed to confirm, however, that the culprit at the very least knew where the security cameras were. Nori also now had a plan B if they didn't managed to find out the identity of the culprit through their investigation he would just have to wait in the school for them to show up and catch them then. The student councils and class reps mentality seemed to be what was preventing a quick solution to the doll problem. Despite his backup plan to wait in the school to catch the criminal he still needed to find a way to get into the school after hours in order for it to work. At the same time he had to wonder how the one responsible for the dolls manage to get in each night to place the dolls.

“Ah. I’m late! I’m sorry, but I promised to meet someone a few minutes ago, so I have to go. If you guys have any more questions for me, just ask Kira-san for my contact.”
“What next?”

He still wanted to ask Kanazawa about possible ways the person responsible for the dolls could have gotten into the school after hours but it seemed he would just have to ask Kohaku for the contact later if the answer became necessary. For now it seem like they had gained all the information the student council had to offer them and their only other lead was the dolls themselves. They knew of three locations that were the most suspicious, the doll at the front entrance and the two classrooms where the dolls appeared twice. There were three of them and three different locations so it seemed to make sense if they split up to check each location and then meet up again to share what they found, but then again it could be better to have more than one person looking at a doll since one could notice what another could not.

"I was going to check out the doll at the entrance since it is one of the dolls that didn't follow the pattern of the rest. I think it would be for the best if we looked at the oddities before checking out the dolls that followed the pattern."

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Thu Dec 08, 2016 6:41 pm

Kana was surprised with how far they had taken the investigation already. Rather than be impressed though, it mostly just limited what was left to mark off the list. If the doll's origin isn't a useful lead, then the only thing left to do was investigate in the building, or try to capture them in the act of the crime. The former should come first even if they were to try to catch the culprit later. The most interesting detail was that the culprit had managed to erase the video recording. Whether it being through some sort of power, or simply erasing it from the hard drive, it hadn't been elaborated on. But that seemed like an important clue.

Now that Kanazawa had left, and it was just them again, as some sort of newly formed investigative unit, they would need to decide their next move. Kana made sure everything was put away in her bag.

"As you say, Kinoshita-kun, the most logical step would be to check out some of the scenes that don't follow the norm. You two are more familiar with the typical scene, so comparing that to the unusual ones could provide more information." Kana wouldn't have as much to compare to, but she could still look for anything she thought was unusual. The only thing that bothered her was that if the council couldn't find anything even after the depths at which they had gone, it seemed unlikely they would encounter anything too useful.

Regardless, she intended to cooperate and make sure they could resolve this as soon as possible. "For now, it doesn't really seem like we have any other leads, so we'll need to to simply hope we can find or notice something that the council had missed."

As she thought about it more, even if they couldn't get any sort of lead, if they could find even a potential motive or goal, that could help narrow it down as well, with enough follow up investigation. She would need to try to keep an open mind while investigating.

“In that case, let’s stick together and head to the first location Kinoshita-san suggested.” Seeing as the other two had come to a consensus about what to do first. She, personally, would have rather checked the other classroom first, but since Nori had suggested the entranceway, it might as well have been best to go there.

“Let’s avoid splitting up, however.” Kohaku said, while placing the now empty bowl of mapo doofu back onto her tray and her smartphone back into her skirt pocket. “It would be easier for us to notice anything off with three pairs of eyes looking into the same thing. If we’re lucky, we probably will have enough time to look into at least two of the locations, so let’s hurry.”

After placing her tray on a nearby cart meant for students to dispose of any dishes from meals the bought from the cafeteria, she returned to the table where the other two were. “So, are we ready to go to the entrance?”

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Fri Dec 09, 2016 7:18 pm

"For now, it doesn't really seem like we have any other leads, so we'll need to to simply hope we can find or notice something that the council had missed."

It was true, despite all the information that Kanazawa had given them, all they had gained from it was knowing where not to look for leads. It was a disappointing fact to accept but it at least it was better than the complete lack of information they had started out with. It was always possible that they could find something that the student council had missed but there was only three of them.

“In that case, let’s stick together and head to the first location Kinoshita-san suggested. It would be easier for us to notice anything off with three pairs of eyes looking into the same thing. If we’re lucky, we probably will have enough time to look into at least two of the locations, so let’s hurry.”

It was good to hear that both Kana and Kohaku were both still planning to investigate the dolls despite the fact that it had been made quite clear that they didn't have any real leads besides looking at the dolls. The decision between splitting up or sticking together had already been answered before he brought even brought it up so it seemed that they would all be going to the doll at the entrance first.

“So, are we ready to go to the entrance?”
"I believe so"

Right after answering, Nori grabbed his backpack and jumped to his feet. He wanted to start investigating as soon as possible because the more time they had, the higher their chances were of finding something and if the discovered who the culprit was than he wouldn't have to try to find a way to break into the school after hours to catch the criminal. It also would also decrease the amount of time he would have to wait before getting back at the perpetrator for putting a doll behind his desk.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Kana nodded in agreement to the others. So they would stick together in hopes that they could spot or notice anything unusual that the other might not. "Yep, I'm ready." She grabbed her bag, and put it onto her shoulder. Given that they had pretty much agreed to check the entrance with Kinoshita at this point, that would be their destination. Kana stood up the from the table, ready to head out to their destination now.

Despite it being at the entrance, Kana herself had never checked out the scene with the doll before. She was eager to finally get a good look at them herself, and was ready to head out towards the entrance. Making sure it seemed like the other two would follow along with her, she began to head out that way.

"I hate to dampen the mood, though, but I'd like to point out again. We can't be sure we'll find anything. Given how thoroughly the student council has investigated it, it seems almost assured there won't be anything left to find at the scene."

Of course, she knew there was a possible exception to that. She wouldn't want to think it was a possibility, but there was always a small chance that one of the student council that investigated or looked into some particular matter was in fact related to the crime itself, and could hide certain facts or information. Barring that, the thorough investigation information she had heard before made it seem quite unlikely that they'd find anything themself. Her hopes weren't set very high, but she was still quite eager to look over the crime scene. It had been a long while since she had taken part in something fun like this. A small smile likely forming on her face.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

While most people would never deign to call the large space an entranceway, those who came into that school on a daily basis had long since been acclimated to calling that space by that name. There was a single reason for that. Despite its size, it was undoubtably the single pathway for the students to enter the building. There were no divergences or branches and no extra rooms. All there was was a single start point and single endpoint. Unless one decided to walk in circles, there was no way for on to not go to either point.

The absurdly sized entranceway consisted of two parts. The first was a gaudy reception-security area. Kept pristine, it held three specific stations: a security desk at the very front, next to the glass-door entrance, a reception/help desk area on one side, and a cafe area on the other (for the tea drinkers and occasional coffee addict). This portion seemed to branch out of the building as a small, one story rectangular prism jutting out of he great structure that Nagatenjouki Academy was.

At the back of the reception area was the set of doors that led into the main school building. Beyond it was the one thing that most students in Academy City found to be commonplace: shoe lockers—or at least that’s what it would have been for most other schools. Since Nagatenjouki included loafers in their school uniforms, it was pointless for them to create a shoe locker area. Instead, it was simply an open space that could act as a gathering space for students, with walls covered in multiple bulletin boards and with tables hugging the walls. It was at a table at the closest to the main hallway for the school that the doll in question was placed.

The doll wore a blue caplet over a white shirt, blue pants, and short black boots. If one were to paint a picture of what motif the doll was most connected to, they would definitely think of Lapis Lazuli. There were three focal points on the doll that drew attention. The first was the heterochromatic left red and right green eyes. The second was its strangely masculine appearance—that is to say, while it was still obviously female, the doll did come off as more masculine due to its outfit and short chestnut-colored hair. The last thing of note was the most striking—a pair of gold gardening shears it held in its right hand. It was definitely blunt and far from a cause for harm, but it was unsettling nonetheless. After all, it looked like a large pair of scissors and the teenage mind could be quite colorful with its imagination.

Despite its simple elegance, its presence as the cold porcelain eyes took in everything they saw was a source of discomfort.

It was a miracle that none of the students lashed out at the unsettling object that continued to sit in the location that it was placed.

But, thanks to that unsettling object, what was normally a gathering place for students was devoid of people when they did not need to be there. In other words, lunchtime left this place empty.

Kohaku simply stared at the doll. It was a fine piece of artisanship, but she could honestly tell nothing else by looking at it. Besides the fact that it was posed to look into the hallway, there was nothing she could say was of note.

“So, what angle do you guys want to try investigating it through?” She said, turning to ask Kana and Nori.

Kana was probably right that the student council’s investigation had probably cleared the location of any evidence. Still, it would not hurt to look.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Kinoshita Nori Sun Dec 18, 2016 7:53 pm

The emptiness of the entranceway was a bit unsettling, having such a large space completely devoid of people put Nori a bit on edge. It didn't take long to find what was keeping all the student away from this area. Admittedly he should of already known what this doll looked like and where it was located considering that he had come through this way everyday when he arrived as school. However, he had be so avid about avoiding the dolls that he had completely ignored the presence of every single doll, except the one in his own classroom, up until this point.

Looking at the doll that was motionlessly staring at the hall way, he felt a wave of relief at the fact that this doll hadn't been the one placed in his classroom. The golden shears was where he drew the line when it came to the doll's creepiness factor. The cold eyes of the dolls made them disturbing enough but by giving them something that could classify as a weapon even if blunt only made it seem like the doll was trying to depict some murderer.

Ignoring the aspects of the dolls that were discomforting him he approached the shear wielding doll took a closer look at it. The heterochromatic eyes in particularly were catching his attention and he stared directly at them for a few moments before turning around and trying to follow the doll's line of sight to see if it was posed to look at anything in particular but it only seemed to be staring at the empty hallway.

“So, what angle do you guys want to try investigating it through?”

"Well we already know we aren't going to find fingerprints on the doll and student council has already investigate the insignia found on the dolls so we aren't going to learn anything new by looking into either of those. The shears, the eye colors, and the doll's placement are what is catching my attention right now though honestly I want to see if there is anything inside.

The only issue with breaking the doll was that the student council seemed pretty avid about preserving the dolls incase they needed to be used for an investigation. It was easy to imagine that they wouldn't be very pleased if he did considerable damage to the doll. He just needed to figure out a way to get a look inside the doll while damaging it as little as possible.

[SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls Empty Re: [SS] Through the Eyes of the Silent Dolls

Post  Tsukomata Kana Fri Dec 23, 2016 10:02 pm

Kana spent a short while simply staring at the doll. It did not please her to think something like this was simply left at the entrance. She passed through here each day, but usually she didn't spend enough time to analyze the situation. However, even now that she was giving it her time, she didn't really see anything in particular. It just looked like a creepy doll, which for whatever reason someone decided to leave here, and the council decided it was best to leave it as well. She understood the logic behind leaving evidence where it is, but when they had already examined it to the extent they had, she wasn't sure what the gain was. Didn't it simply bother the students more? Normally, she might be bothered by the council's decisions in this matter, but it gave her the opportunity to at least examine it, even if there might not be anything to gain from it.

She looked around the room, hoping to see anything else, however unsurprisingly nothing stood out. Wouldn't the council have found it by now if that was the case? Kohaku asked them what angle they should look at the situation, but honestly, she wasn't sure. There was no obvious motive or gain, which makes it tough to track it down to anyone. Nori wanted to see inside it, which Kana herself thought was reasonable. While they knew that at least one didn't have a camera before, it could've been placed in the locker room to bait others into checking it for a camera to remove suspicion of the rest following suit. She didn't think it would be incredibly likely, but there was a chance.

"If you want to look inside of it, I would not stop you. I think it's a good idea. The only problem would be upsetting the council."

Kana didn't have much to offer in this situation, and kept most of her thoughts to herself. Given the info they all knew, all she could say if that someone was creeping out the student body with creepy dolls. Thinking about if she herself were the culprit, and how she herself could get away with it, it seemed like it wouldn't be very hard to be nigh untrackable, given that they knew the fingerprints and brand lead nowhere.

Perhaps Nori was on the right track about where the dolls were looking though. While it might not seem like much, there was even a possibility that they were all positioned in a way to reveal something on a larger scale. They could each be clues to something, or a large clue to something else.

"Kira-san, is there any chance that you would happen to know where most or even all dolls are located? It seems like a stretch, but I was curious if there might happen to be a pattern to their placement if looked upon from a map of the school."

"If you want to look inside of it, I would not stop you. I think it's a good idea. The only problem would be upsetting the council."

“Well, if you really want to take it apart, just make sure you can put it back together again. I’m not sure how doll-crafting is done, but I’m pretty sure removal of parts is not as easy as pressing a button to release some kind of lock.” She warned Nori who seemed to be itching to take the thing apart. “Even if there is some method of replacing damaged parts, I’m not sure what it would be.”

Beyond what Reiji mentioned the Student Council wanted, there was another benefit to leaving the dolls intact on their original places. The creation of a sense of security. Regardless of what purpose the dolls served, it was likely that the culprit would return to the scenes of where they left the dolls at some point. If that was the case, a damaged doll could give the culprit reason to not return to it. It was a long shot, but the idea of the criminal returning to the scene of the crime was a possibility that should not be squandered.

"Kira-san, is there any chance that you would happen to know where most or even all dolls are located? It seems like a stretch, but I was curious if there might happen to be a pattern to their placement if looked upon from a map of the school."

“There might be.” Kohaku moved over to the nearby map next to the bulletin board before pointing out each of the location the dolls had been placed in.

“The positions of the dolls are not that convoluted. Each of the homerooms for the second year classrooms were hit. These usually ended up in not to inconspicuous locations like the back of the classroom or inside a bookshelf.” She said, pointing to the respective areas in each classroom. “Classrooms 2-A and 2-C were hit twice. Aside from that, the dolls appeared in the second years’ Physics lab relegated specifically for 2-C’s and 2-A’s use, the Home Ec classroom, here, the second years’ girls’ locker room, and in classrooms 3-E and 3-D.”

There was no strange pattern to be drawn by connecting the dots of the appearances on the map. “Come to think of it, most of the dolls were centered around areas connected to 2-A and 2-C. Though, the extra dolls in those third year classrooms still don’t add up.”
